Easy check in, lovely room and great bathroom. We chose to eat at the George that night and dinner was simply amazing. The short rib of beef simply fell off the bone, utterly gorgeous! The sharing platter as a starter was HUGE and equally delicious. The staff were so accommodating - when we said we had to be out before breakfast would be served the following morning they made up a "pack breakfast" for us which was really kind and thoughtful. I'd definitely like to stay here again.

There was a staff leaving party going on when we arrived that went on quite late. I thought that the gestapo like flood lighting was being triggered by people moving around outside in the courtyard, but it continued all night long which was a real shame.

I have stayed at the The George previously, and the very fact that I chose it again is an indication of my liking for it! It is very old and creaky in places and my room was rather hot as it gets the full blast of the evening sun, but the shower worked fine (which is often an issue in very old hotels) and I will stay there again without hesitation. In fact, in October, I plan to celebrate the birthday of a US colleague in the George's ' private' dining room because it is a relaxed and friendly place .which my American friends will love.

My room was hot and the bed was not very comfortable but that's not a big deal to me. as long as it is quiet . I will always take a single room when they are available because I am usually travelling on my own and it seems a shame to take up space unnecessarily. And it was a good price. The breakfast was very generous.

My sister and I only stayed for 1 night but it was very comfortable. The room we got was not in the main "house" where the bar and restaurant are located. It was a nicely renovated room. The bed was very comfortable but the only downside is that we could hear the noise outside our door when personnel starts to work early in the morning (the room beside our room seems to be like a storeroom so it could be busy at some hours during the day). The hotel's restaurant served excellent food. Breakfast was lovely. We got to choose anything on the breakfast menu, how we liked our eggs, coffee was excellent as well as service. Since Castle Cary is a small town it was not easy to get hold of a taxi and there was no bus, so we ended up walking with our heavy handluggage all the way to the train station which was about 1.3kms away. Overall the stay at the hotel was very nice.

The breakfast was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. The food at The George was freshly prepared and if a high standard. Good range of choices for all meals. Wish we could have eaten there more. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant throughout our stay, they couldn’t have done more to make our stay enjoyable. Very relaxed atmosphere. The hotel was decorated for Christmas which was loved by the 18 month in our party.

This is not a city and so close to Christmas we found local taxis to be unhelpful and not prepared to book any trips. We pre booked P&V minibuses who were extremely helpful and reliable

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were both very good. All very clean and although my room was a bit small, the bathroom was surprisingly big. (Room 2). I managed to park behind the hotel.

The only thing I didn't like was the decor in the main building (my room was fine). It was just a bit off the mark. Mainly the stuffed deer and boar heads but particularly the deer feet, of which there are several on the landing, as well as way too many sets of antlers. The cow hide (with hair) "wallpaper" on part of the corridor to my room is particularly unpleasant. I'm not vegetarian, but imagine a vegetarian or vegan would find this very upsetting. Given the age of the pub it should have looked wonderful but, although perfectly OK, just wasn't quite right.

Friendly staff for all meal service, especially breakfast. This was a great location, central to our needs. We had a lovely room overlooking the market, but, sadly, there was a downside with the location of our room...

We appreciate that it is a very old building with lovely features but the level of street noise through the single glazed window at night was disruptive to sleep. I would therefore recommend a room not facing the market, or wear earplugs. No mirror anywhere in the bedroom...

Very friendly hotel with professional staff who went out of their way to help with booking a suitable room, menu choices, and information about local attractions We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel and found the food to be excellent with a variety of menu options.

Our room was on the first floor and I found the long, narrow corridor leading from the stairs to the bedrooms dark due to a lack of windows. However once the lighting was switched on it was more than adequate.

I upgraded my room from single to double when I arrived. The single would have been fine for winter but way too warm for this heat in may especially with a dog in the room. They welcome dogs in hotel and in the bar, and mine sat under the table while having dinner. There was a lovely area at the back of the hotel to walk the dog. And even better, breakfast is served from 7 making it easy to get to where you want to go early.

The room was a little noisy from motorbikes during the night.

Breakfast was excellent as were the two evening meals I had and one could not fault the staff they were helpful and charming. The bed linen and towels were lovely and the bed was very comfortable.

The room was a little cramped, however, that is to be expected in an old property. The duvet was a bit warm for this time of the year and an alternative would have been nice but not a major problem. Noise was a little bit of an issue, however, this too was to be expected due to the hotel being popular with the locals.

Room quaint and dated but comfortable, food excellent. Dog friendly room was handy for our dog, as access was straight from courtyard. Bit awkward to find, but Castle Cary road layout is confusing. Staff were lovely and helpful. Good breakfast!

Parking very limited being in the centre of town, (hotel has only 4 spaces up a narrow drive from high street) but alternatives locally suggested (other pub car park further down the road) and limited on-street parking can be found. Despite bit of hassle with parking, we would definitely go there again
