First time we have stopped at the NDG since the change of ownership and we were not disappointed. The staff were excellent - very friendly, welcoming, helpful and happy!!! Breakfast was great and if like me you are not that keen on a traditional English breakfast there are alternative hot options eg. Eggs Benedict (lovely) in addition to the usual juice, cereal, toast and yogurt. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The food menu for lunch/evening was great and the meal we had was lovely. You have the option to reserve a table in the restaurant or eat in the Walker’s Bar, beer garden (paved or grassed). The location of the NDG is located in a fantastic valley with great options of walks right from your door. If you just want to chill and relax the beer garden and gardens offer plenty of seating with stunning views. We have always enjoyed our previous stays at the NDG but the new owners RedCat Pub Company staff, better breakfast choice and meal options made this our best stay ever at this lovely hotel.

We stayed two nights (Saturday and Sunday). We were originally in a superior room and check in was friendly and swift. After the first night, we raised a couple of issues with our room. The manager, Mark, could not have been more helpful and polite. He moved us to a different room and checked that we were comfortable and happy. We ate in the restaurant the first night and had the fish and chips. The food was very good quality - the fish was excellent. The service at the evening meal and at both breakfasts was efficient and friendly. This hotel is in a stunning location and has huge potential. We were informed that there will be a refurb in the near future to brighten up tired areas and solve any maintenance issues. It is a beautiful hotel and, under the management of Mark (who only took over back end of last year), we have no doubt it will become a high class hotel that is a favourite with walkers and holiday makers alike. Good luck Mark and team - we will be back!

The breakfast was excellent. The location of the hotel couldn't be better. The room was good, clean and well appointed. Staff were friendly [particularly Dianne] giving good service.
We acknowledge that we went out of season and the hotel was quiet but the menu [especially for vegetarians] was limited. Having said that the chef went out of their way to accommodate us. The room was good but the radiator was on and unadjustable so initially we were far too hot. The bed was a touch hard [you can't please everyone] and the ceiling lights were too bright. This is nit picking however.

We had a really lovely stay at the hotel. It was in the perfect spot for what we wanted to do on our mini break. We hiked up to Stickle Tarn behind the hotel and went into Windermere to go out on the lake. The hotel itself was so nice, tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean and tidy. Our room was an ideal size and the bed was really comfortable. We had drinks in the bar and breakfast on our second morning. It was a bit pricey but not too much more than we expected for a hotel in that location. We’d definitely stay there again in future :)

We arrived to a slightly chilly hotel as the heating had broken but the welcome from the staff couldn't have been warmer. They were superb. We loved hanging out by the fire in the guest lounge during a very snowy day. The hotel is a great base for walking with lots of routes from the doorstep. It's great being able to park the car up for the weekend and not drive anywhere. We also liked having the option of Lanty Slee's bar right next door for a change.
The only slight negative was the limited food choice for vegetarians. Also being spammed with offers in advance. I've never had this before when using Booking.com and it left a bad impression. Fortunately the first impressions upon actually arriving at the hotel were great.

lovely pub & hotel..beds really comfy & rooms very clean & comfortable, it's good that you get toiletries & soft lovely towels, very friendly staff & the food was really good.. especially the full English breakfast.. plenty of choice for other breakfast options.. its handy for all the walks, we walked up to stickle tarn..well worth the slog..see attached photos of the top
I know it was out of their control but the heating wasn't working.. but we were given a heater for the room.. we had no hot water for 1 day, but it was soon fixed & they compensated us by giving us a 50% discount on our food & bar bill.. thankyou

Location superb, good that another bar is next door as provided variety - we used both - evening front of house staff excellent, breakfast staff OK, evening food good, parking available all day while we walked, bed very comfortable, towels and linen very good.
Shower head broken and sprayed all over bathroom, tiles in bathroom need mildew cleaning, corridor to room 1 very damp and smelly, in summer, room would have been very noisy, quite warm overnight with no heating controls. Breakfast server having fag outside front door when we came down!!

Our stay at New Dungeon Ghyll coincided with some severe weather in the Northwest. There was snow on the mountains which turned to heavy rain and flooding the next day. The staff at the hotel were therefore attending to various emergencies, with people not being able to get home, and others cancelling. Throughout they remained calm, helpful and friendly. To stave off the winter chill there were log-burning stoves in the public areas and mulled wine. Excellent service through a difficult couple of days.
The radiator in our room was air-locked and needed bleeding before heat could come through. We did this to save the staff the trouble!

The location in the Langdale valley, surrounded by mountains & fields, was gorgeous. Stunning setting and the building itself was beautiful.
In Room 1 we were next to the fire exit (which doubled up as the "after hours" entry door for the hotel). This was annoying when people were coming back late at night or early in the morning as the door would slam and wake us up. I told the receptionist about it on the day we left, and he said they'd look at sorting the issue.
