An 'okay' stay at the Portugal/Spain border. Walking the Camino....didn't want to walk into Spain late and tired so booked a room on the Portugal side. The hotel is aged, but okay. The staff lack luster...but efficient. The location is "Stellar". Next to the "old fort city". If I'd do it again I would have booked lodging inside the fort instead...lots of choices there. Hotel Lara is priced right...and okay for an overnight....but not special.

The receptionist was really helpful, check-in was quick. Breakfast was really good: plenty of options for everyone. The room was pretty quiet to be fair. The bathroom had a bathtub in it, which was a bonus as I could use it after a long day of walking. There are a few restaurants and shops nearby. For Camino pilgrims: they do have a stamp for your pilgrim passport.

The hotel itself is a bit outdated, wanted to use the air conditioning but it only blew warm air even though I've changed the setting on the console. It was not a big deal though, as it wasn't super hot in the room but could have used it.

A great place to stay on the Camino opposite the fort and not far from the bridge to cross over into Spain. Comfy beds, nice to have a balcony. Great breakfast and nice toiletries. Very good for a reasonable price. Staff were great, friendly and helpful

We would have appreciated a kettle and cups in the room to make hot drinks. The room did smell damp and the decor was very dark and dated. There was a lack of communication between the kitchen and elsewhere. Dinner was advertised on a board as starting at 6pm when it didn't start until 7pm. The restaurant staff then also didn't appear to know what was on the board specials menu either. Nevertheless the woman in the restaurant was super great in spite of language barriers between us and we had a delicious meal in a lovely restaurant overlooking the fort.

Breakfast was great, staff very accomodating, close to all of the activities and centre, and it was also very close to train station ( for the price location to old town and the train station- all was very easily walkable. Not one cab/uber/bus needed.

Nothing could be improved without increasing the price. It is a great place to be in that area.

Hotel Lara is conveniently located on the Camino. It's a modern city hotel, with a Germanic feel. The decor is dated (circa early '90s) but it is clean, comfortable and functional. There's a handy restaurant offering the Pilgrim's menu just below it and it's literally over the road from the Camino trail.

Well, the location is perfect, right on the Camino route and across the road from the historic, mediaeval fort/ walled city. The reception staff were so helpful and friendly, offering restaurant advice and even printing something I needed. The room was very spacious, with a balcony and a wonderful bath to soak in( lovely toiletries provided too). The buffet breakfast was the best so far, with a wide range of hot and cold food choices. A very busy hotel, but obviously because it is so good.

No complaints.

Right next to the Valenca Fortress. Bed was really comfortable and staff spoke good english and was able to answer all questions. There is a grocery store and plenty of places to eat dinner. Breakfast was good.

Nothing enjoyed my stay.

Perfect location to start the Camino Portuguese from. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable.

Perhaps there could be an additional plug next to the second bed in the room.

Location adjacent to good family restaurant. Auberge close to purchase Camino passport. Across the street from Fortaleza de Valença: Baluarte de São Jerónimo - not to be missed & has restaurants.

The room decor - I loved the black & brown timber and the Asian motifs. The staff were pleasant and willing to accommodate. I loved this place - what a gem!

There is nothing to complain about from me. Sometimes the bathroom smells a bit damp when I came back into the room (Ie needed better ventilation), but no biggie.
