Exceptional stay at The Dog Inn! We loved everything about our stay. The inn is in a quaint, charming location with a cozy pub that locals frequent, giving us a real feel for the community. The owner was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. There’s a lovely outdoor area with picnic tables, and the location is perfect, just a short walk to High Street. Such a warm and welcoming experience. Highly recommend!

Honestly, nothing! Everything was just what we hoped for and more.

I was given a lovely room with plenty of space. The bathroom was small, but clean and all necessary toiletries were of good quality. A generous tea tray of coffee, tea and hot chocolate as well as biscuits. I had control of the heating, so could keep it cooler, how I prefer it. I had a key to the back door, so could come in late if I wished. It was also lovely and quiet during the night, so I slept well.

The only downside to this friendly and warm inn is that driving out of the car park is to be done with caution as on a bend, but that is hardly an issue! Otherwise all good - I would definitely visit again.

Super dog friendly, perfect location...perfect hosts with amazing comfy beds and breakfast heaven ... Lots of soft towels, a very relaxed atmosphere, and a decent quality toilet roll. Room 5 was spacious, had a nice bath in the bathroom, and shower gel shampoo soap provided. 2 beds , a fan and plenty of tea coffee hot chocolate and biscuits too... The bar is warm and welcoming with super friendly staff and locals x 3 min stroll into town. Nice secure grasses beer garden where dogs can run x Would stay again and 100% recommend Richard recommended some lovely places to eat x

Nothing not to like really. The steps going down into the beer garden would benefit with a hand rail x

The way I was treated as a guest. Everything was so cared for, clean and neatly arranged. The owner was very friendly. (Photo: view from bedroom.) Halstead is a nice little town, e.g. with interesting antiques centre.

Nothing to blame the owner, but to leave the parking was dangerous due to passing traffic and hardly any sight right/left. Advice: trust people walking by, who know the situation and give the helpful "You can go!" signal.

Bed comfortable, sheet clean, nice and quiet, didn't have breakfast but for 7.95 you can't go wrong. Good selection of hot drinks, tea, coffee, hot chocolate aswel as biscuits and bottles of water in your room. Will definitely stay again when over that way. Thanks again.

The only thing I found a bit difficult was washing your face as there was a glass shelf over the sink, so you could not put your face over it. But that is it, nothing major.

As soon as we arrived we felt very welcome. It's a great place to stay. We had so much fun that we were laughing from the moment we got there till 2 days later when we left. The Landlord Richard is a great guy and very funny. It was clean and comfortable. Great choice for breakfast, cereals, toast, fruit juices, different teas, filtered coffee, the freshly cooked full English was delicious. The locals in there made us feel very welcome as well. I would highly recommend the Dog Inn. We absolutely loved it.

Not a thing

We had a wonderful stay in Halstead. Richard was a great host, and we enjoyed having a drink in the bar with the locals, and choosing their suggestion of a place to eat dinner (the Turkish restaurant nearby is fantastic!) Our room was small but comfortable (we knew this; it was the only one left when we booked), and good value for money. A lovely breakfast to set us up for our trip the next day.

Bed was very comfortable. Linen clean and fresh. Good internet. Clean bathroom. Breakfast was good - buffet and cooked all included. Plenty of local pubs and restaurants for lunch or evening meal within a short walk. On site parking. Richard kindly upgraded us at no extra cost as there was another larger room available.

Only downside is they don't serve food other than breakfast but options available nearby.

I was warmly welcomed at approx 6pm by the owner at the bar and asked what time I'd like breakfast in the morning. A full English Breakfast - YUMMY! Time wasn't an issue and we agreed that 7.30am was good. I was then taken up to my room. When the door was opened I was delighted to see a very tidy well decorated room with two single beds - lovely decor with lots of heat! The radiator was on a thermostat and there was a window which I could open if I needed to. There was a TV, ensuite shower/toilet room and tea/coffee available. The beds were so comfortable and had very clean white linen with lovely white towels and some toiletries. I had my dog Margot staying with me too ready for a Field Trial the next day. There was a large car park with ample parking and a small garden at the bottom where I could take her out before we went to bed. We slept very well and the breakfast was delicious!! 5 star all round - amazing. Would definitely recommend to all. Thank you for a great stay.

Nothing - it was just perfect!

The location was very good for what I wanted to do. The pub was very friendly and the locals made me feel welcome from the start. The breakfast was excellent and did till evening meal time. Richard was very friendly and made me feel very welcome,nothing was too much trouble and kept an excellent pint of beer.

The wash basin in room 2 was very small in the bathroom. With a glass shelf over it. So it was very difficult to wash and rinse my face as I could not get my head in over the basin when shaving but there’s ways of doing things. The removal of the shelf to one side would make it easier. But this would not put me off going back as it was a very relaxing place.
