Every bit of our stay was excellent. I booked 2 rooms & a table for dinner for 4. Great food & service

I put everything against my table booking tab. At the end of the evening (not closing time, or last to retire to bed as there were other customers around) approx. 11pm, I was approached & asked if I’d pay my bill? Of course I’m going to pay it! I felt intimidated as there were 2 staff, quite in unison standing together waiting for me to pay my bill. Obviously I paid & retired to my room. I would have given 5/5 for staff if it hadn’t been for this, judge a book by its cover philosophy, or it’s time to finish the evening.

Easy to find, offstreet parking at the rear of the hotel and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. I was pleased that room 11 that I was allocated was located at the end of the building overlooking the carpark so was a bit cooler and very quiet.

Unfortunately, the weather was extremely warm so I found the internal en-suite bathroom with no natural ventilation … very stuffy and humid, even though I only ran a cool bath and had a very short warm shower in the morning I checked out

A difficult time for staff as they'd had an afternoon event before we arrived, but I had checked in advance about an evening meal - it was rather chaotic, we had to wait over an hour for food, one waitress was very short and unhelpful. They could have handled things better.

Location and building are both beautiful: quaint and historic. Dinner menu was ok but limited fir us as we have low fat and diabetic needs. Breakfast was very good. All staff were excellent, especially Carly on Reception. We had a few issues with the room, which she speedily fixed but also offered the option to change rooms. While we were out at a wedding, she arranged to have our things moved so we didn't have to spend time doing it ourselves.

English breakfast lovely, continental good although had to ask for side plates, milk, cups, coffee. However ALL staff really friendly and helpful. Fabulous electric heater that warmed our room up quickly. Quirky hotel. Omg! Trying to walk down the corridor after being in the bar makes you think you are drunk!! Haha the corridor on the first floor is not level at all, just adds to the character of the inn.

Very noisy as we were above the dining room, a party on the evening, then in the morning could hear the customers downstairs eating breakfast.

The staff are really lovely, polite and helpful. I had issues with booking.com which made two bookings, was less than helpful and eventually cancelling both. Staff, particularly at the head office, managed to rebook my original booking without any further payment or stress. Great customer service. In future i will be booking direct.

Not so much didn’t like but could be considered, the building is old so the floors creaked…..a lot. The smallest movement made heaps of noise and whilst the weather is warm the room was quite hot with only a small window to help cool the room which unfortunately, i had to close at night due to the bugs attraction to light.

Location was lovely and quiet, the food was superb and the room was comfortable and quiet and the staff were very friendly and accommodating, we were running late getting to the hotel and they advised on what to do if we do arrive late. I would say the hotel was very good overall.

Our bathroom had cobwebs around the lights and there was some black mould on the silicon finishes around the joints, the latter was something that my father also had in his room so appears to be an issue across the building. Not a deal breaker for me personally but I think this could do with looking at in the future.

All the food was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and served very quickly. The staff were all lovely and helpful. The room was boiling when I arrived, but the radiators were easily controlled to make it more comfortable. The bedroom was a fantastic size. Iron and Ironing board already in the wardrobe, no need to request them from Reception.

The bedroom furniture and bathroom are a little dated. The toilet flush was not very effective, and the shower head was a bit weak. The wardrobe was disappointing. I had several full-length garments to hang, and although the wardrobe was nice and tall from the outside, it had a very low hanging rail and was therefore of little use to me. There was very limited electric light, which made putting makeup on at the dressing table in the early morning very tricky indeed. There was no full-length mirror in the room

It feels like you are staying in a piece of history as a very old building. Plenty of space, well laid out and an outdoor eating and drinking area with cover too. Very friendly welcome and team. Good selection of drinks and a varied and great value menu of food options. The room was spacious, clean and a good sized bathroom too. Very central location but quiet at the same time and a decent sized off-street car park too.

This was my 8th stay at the property and each time the staff always make you feel welcome and go out of their way to ensure the stay is as great as possible - I ate at hotel each night (new menu) and everything was excellent - I would order for a specific time and my meal was always ready - Reception and bar staff really friendly and even allocated the room I requested.

The shower was a little weak on power but I had previously stayed in the room so was already aware.
