My sister and I were attending a concert at nearby Colchester Castle Park and booked the hotel for one night. Location was ideal; just a 10 minutes walk to the park. The hotel is old and full of character and our room was gorgeous - full of wood, exposed brickwork and an old fireplace. The staff were very friendly and the bar area looked lovely - not that we used it. There were plenty of towels provided and also toiletries and I spotted an iron. There was a kettle and coffee maker in the room too. The room and en-suite shower room was clean and the beds were very comfortable.

The only negative - which stopped me from giving an ‘excellent’ score overall was that neither of us slept very well. We kept hearing noises that sounded like our door being opened but was obviously doors from other rooms there. The lack of parking was also a small niggle. There is an NCP car park close by but they are expensive. As it was a Sunday we parked in a loading bay outside the hotel which was great but meant that we had to leave before 8 a.m on the Monday morning when restrictions started.

I cannot praise all the staff highly enough. I had a panic attack and stomach upset about getting to my meeting in the morning and the staff very kindly and efficiently organised a taxi, breakfast that I could eat and me so that in the end I arrived early! The bed was extremely comfortable and despite a back problem I slept soundly. The hotel is centrally located in the old part of the town and is an attractive building of character.

As an old building of character the hotel has some access problems. There was a large step up to the entrance, which I nearly tripped over. I think that this is a temporary arrangement while there is maintenance work going on. I was only staying one night, so didn't ask whether there was an alternative entrance. The staff helped me with my luggage. The retaurant is temporarily closed, but there are several restaurants nearby. The bedroom was a bit small, but quite adequate.

extremely friendly, helpful staff. Any queries dealt with with a smile. Bed very comfortable, shower very powerful. Bathroom much larger than the usual addition in the corner of a room. Excellent value for money. Really handy for seeing Colchester, particularly if you don't have a car.

Housekeeping could be improved. My room was barely touched the first day (I had put out Please Clean notice), and tea and biscuits were not replenished. However, the next day, after I had mentioned this to staff, room was sparkling and tea and biscuits ready for me!

Staff were really friendly and helpful. We were welcomed to the hotel and offered tips on where to eat as the hotel restaurant was not open. Very well decorated hotel and room. The room was nice , and the bathroom had a good shower. There was some road noise that didn't bother us, but they offered complimentary ear plugs, which was thoughtful. Breakfast was delicious and made fresh to order. It is in a very convenient location for Colchester town centre.parking is at nacp car park which is only a few minutes walk.

We personally didn't find the bed particularly comfortable. We were on the 2nd floor, and the first thing I noticed was that the room was warm. There was a fan of sorts that we needed to keep on all night. It was difficult to get ready for the event we were going to the next day as the room was so warm. I was very hot and sweaty. They may need to invest in better air conditioning to improve this.

The staff, location, cleanliness, and comfy bed of a generous size for a single traveller. Appealing looking dining and bar facilities though I didn't have time to use. I was pleased for the price how nice North Hill is.

The bathroom was a tad chilly with no heater in it and the shower door was attached in reverse so it was hard to turn the cold water on without getting wet & chilly. But not major issues. I'd stay there again.

Location for going out in Colchester was excellent. Right by all the major bars and restaurants but still quiet

Parking was tricky if you dont know the area and how to get about. Although there is parking outside off peak they are always used and there is nowhere to wait to drop off bags etc. Also bus lane from the bottom of North Hill so you have to go to the main roundabout and through busy areas to get to it from the other direction. Make sure you work out how to get to the car park at Nunns Road BEFORE leaving and also its a pound cheaper on the NCP app.

Central location. Parked in NCP although after 6pm Saturday and all day Sunday you can park at front of hotel. Check in was efficient and there is a nice communal area by the bar. Breakfast was good. The room was comfortably furnished although very warm at the time of stay. A fan was provided and as it is located on a main road I didn’t open the windows although I wasn’t disturbed by traffic. You can easily walk to the town centre in a few minutes.

There was nothing that could have been better. On arrival the receptionist was helpful and friendly, and I was so pleased when I first entered the room. It was light, clean, smelt fresh. ansd was well equipped with kettle, teas, coffees...and nice toiletries. I had a really pleasant evening there, and the bed (and bed linen) was excellent. Next morning I requested scrambled egg on marmite toast, and the chef even went to the trouble to make a special marmite butter! It was such a nice touch. I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel and am so glad that I chose this place to stay.

Absolutely nothing.

Very comfortable. Wonderful towels in the bathroom, big and fluffy and a good shower. Quality bedding and comfortable bed. Very pleasant bar and good wine selection. Food from the restaurant was good quality and reasonable price. However, the star of the whole stay was Julie. She went above and beyond to ensure my comfort. Organised a cab to my next venue. As a solo traveller of a certain age I sometimes find I am invisible in hotels, not so here. Julie stopped to chat when her duties permitted. Every hotel should have a Julie!

The weather! Since the hotel can’t control that I have no complaints.

Convenient for where I wanted to be. Staff were very nice. Because they no longer have a restaurant it was very quiet. I spent the evening (after dinner over the road) talking to the bar man Chris. There was only us for a while and helped the evening pass. My room was small but lovely and plenty big enough for just me. Bed very comfortable. I didn't have breakfast.

Bedroom was very warm, but I could have turned off the radiator but didn't realise I could until the morning.So not really a dislike.
