Lovely staff, all very friendly and helpful. The George is a lovely venue.

The heat in the room was unbearable. As soon as I entered the room the heat hit me, the window was closed with the curtains open and sun beaming through the window. It was a really hot day. The windows should be left open, it only opens by a few inches. The radiator in the bathroom was also on which added to the stuffiness in the room. Very uncomfortable night because of the heat, didnt sleep well at all. The fan was noisy and didnt really help. Checkout time of 11am is too early, had to pay £20 extra for late checkout, 1pm.

I liked the location on the High Street and the historic character of the building. My room was comfortable and the hotel was clean and smart. The full English breakfast was good. The receptionist was very polite and helpful.

The weather in early May turned a bit cold for a few days but it seemed as though the hotel had already turned off the central heating. The public areas of the hotel were therefore rather chilly, not helped by the fact that the front door was kept permanently open. This discouraged me from eating dinner at the hotel. I went to a pub instead, where the radiators were on and the pub was pleasantly warm.

We loved our stay and would definitely recommend. Breakfast was lovely, with continental and cooked options. We liked the fact that the cooked breakfasts are made to order which is a comfort as we have allergies and feel more comfortable that the food wasn't out sitting for others to potentially cross contaminate. Everything was clearly labelled too. As an older building, the floors in the room were a little wonky which made no difference to us but may be a mobility issue for others who need a level floor. Room was clean and tidy, however in the corridor there was a large damp/mouldy looking patch on the floor (such as after a leak). Onsite parking but as this isn't owned by the hotel you need to pay £12 a day. No problem for one night but adds up after a while. Other than this the place was perfect. Overall this was a lovely stay and we will be staying here again if we go back to Colchester as great location. Worth the money.

Property was clean, modern, food was delicious, staff were amazing and our room was lovely and comfortable. I love the respect that has been taken wirh the history of the property as well, the original wall and paintworks seen behind perspex on the 1st floor is lovely and interesting. Our room was above the secret courtyard and despite our stay being over a weekend and the courtyard being busy of an evening as a result, it wasn’t noisy so didn’t keep us awake at night. We also had Afternoon tea at the George (next door) absolutely loved it! Thank you for a great stay.

The TV in our room had no signal (not that we watched much TV during our stay) we reported to reception and it turned out to the same issue with most rooms during that time. We were offered a different room at the sister hotel St.Nicholas across the road or a free breakfast one morning, we chose the free breakfast! Thank you so much for that we really appreciated it and the TV was working again on our last night.

Great location. Lovely room and bathroom. Felt very luxurious. Liked the decor and feel of the hotel. Easy check in procedure and friendly staff. Good breakfast, enjoyed ordering hot food cooked fresh and drinks made to order but we did have to wait quite a while for the food. Good buffet selection. Convenient to have parking on site and good value overnight rate. Overall a great stay, we really enjoyed it.

The air con is quite complicated to operate but the room wasn’t too hot without it anyway.

Location was great, right on the high road, lovely bar space and drinks. The shower is probably one of the best I've ever had, free microdermabrasion with every shower! Comfy beds, well equipped room.

The driving to the hotel and the parking, but to be fair it was a Friday afternoon just before Christmas, in the end I gave up trying to park in the hotel car park & parked in the NCP which is less than 5 mins walk away. So all was well, but if you're not familiar with Colchester you might feel a bit unstuck driving to the hotel. We had a twin room, with a view of a brick wall, but again, to be fair when you're booking a hotel in the centre of town something has to give, I did expect slightly better for the price we paid for the room.

When we asked prior to booking about parking, we were told yes there was, and even when we called the hotel while searching for it on arrival to Colchester, it still wasnt explained that it was a small ‘public’ car park, so we then spent 45 mins trying to find it to find on a busy saturday that it was full, lucky we managed to find good 24hr parking facilities locally. We feel it should be mentioned that the parking isnt linked to the hotel so there is no guarentee of a space during your stay.

Good location, staff good, good room. For a town centre hotel it was also relatively quiet. Will definately stay here again!

Parking........only access to parking was along High Street which has no entry signs for vehicles during certain times. No way to carpark from Dutch Quarter due to a barrier in the road. It would seem I could have driven down High Street but this conflicts with information online. However there is other parking within 5 minutes walk so wasnt the end of the world!

The hotel is located in the centre of Colchester and is convenient for touristy things as well as shops/restaurants/bars etc. The rooms are comfortable, clean and to a good standard. The check-in staff were friendly and everything worked smoothly with our booking. The food in the restaurant was first-class and very reasonably priced. I don't usually like restaurants in hotels, but this was excellent.

The bar is also a pub for non-residents, which meant it was packed and noisy. The restaurant area was quieter but there was still a lot of noise from the bar.

Location could not be better for a visit to Colchester. Stylish, comfortable hotel....good blend of the old and the new. Staff were friendly.

Car parking is convenient, but it's expensive. You'd think the hotel could have a deal with the local council that it's guests, who are there to spend money in Colchester, could have at least a discount on parking. If you're there at the weekend, it gets rowdy in the early hours out on the high street. Rooms at the front of the hotel will get the noise.
