Wide choice, I was able to choose a fulfilling option at less calories than the usual full breakfast. Though that's also available. Good service and nice views across the river.

I can't think of any negatives. It was a bit expensive for my tastes. Travelling by train is my first choice these days, hence I need to stay as locally as possible, to reduce taxi fares and therefore have little choice of where I eat. But this was an excellent stay for quality of food and value. So good if you want to eat in the restaurant, even as a guest, you should book in advance.

We very much enjoyed our short break in north Essex staying at the Mistley Thorn. The room was separate from the main hotel; it was a large suite - more than enough room for us. Nicely decorated and in good order. The breakfasts were great and the one lunch and two dinners we had were very good indeed. A full restaurant - everyone and everything worked seamlessly. Popular with the locals - always a good sign! Delicious seafood. Burger was one of the best we've had in a long time. The train station is a short walk away and the local bus stops outside the hotel. A welcoming place to stay.

Challenging stairs in the approach and within the suite we were staying in.

Lovely helpful staff. Meals were prepared for allergy with no fuss and alternatives given rather than just removing all the nice bits. Lovely big bed.

Stairs to first floor lounge/kitchen, further steep stairs to bedroom and another 4 steps to fantastic bathroom. No photos of this suite. Very bland decoration of white, dark grey and dark striped carpet. Only colour was in a red checked chair. Other rooms were beautifully furnished with splashes of colours. Huge lovely bed but need to be careful of skylights on moving around the bed.

A good-sized cozy room, a spacious bathroom with a bath tub, location right opposite the Mistley Quay, a strong WiFi, delicious fresh seafood and fish in the restaurant, a spooky story of the Mistley Thorn haunted by a witch hunter ...

quite a challenge to park - the hotel car park accommodates only 3 cars, the small free parking right opposite is full just as the narrow side street; the hotel personnel was so busy with the restaurant guests that spared me literary no time to explain the breakfast times, WiFi password (no details were in the room as well), etc. The thermostat for the room was set for a too hot temperature - however I actually enjoyed sleeping with a window open.

Super super friendly host. I brought my pup, travelling with my dog for the first time, and was a bit nervous about it. As soon as I entered the building, I was asked if I would like to have breakfast the morning after. When I explained I had to leave very early, they offered me to make a “breakfast take away box”, I could pick up from the kitchen on my way out. The host helped me carrying my bags to my room and was super friendly to my pup. Can really recommend this place if you want to travel stressfree to harwich international harbour The hotel is located next to the station of Mistley, only 8 mins away from Harwich international Harbour

totally relaxing,Food was great, as was the room, We had everything we needed in our Room.(even a toaster,) I had hesitated about going a day early and now wish I had as I could then have used the facilities to their full. we had an evebing meal in the resturant ( would advise booking in advance) then returned for breakfast .All the food was of a high standard, and staff where attentive,Will defiently be going back

Previous Reviews about the car park, ok it only holds about 3 cars, But the roads and car parks are free and No parking restrictions, we managed to park outside easy enough so NOT an issue.Could Not fault the Hotel,The Food or the staff

The staff at the Thorn are extremely personable and efficient. The rooms we have stayed in, always at the front, are extremely comfortable. And the restaurant is excellent. Better than just pub grub!! Wait staff, particularly Amy, attentive and pleasant on a busy Friday night.

The flies!! It has been a good year for them, not for us!! Lavatory seat loose. They thanked me for the feed back. Not much to dislike in this gem!

The location of the hotel is great, looking out onto the River Stour. We were upgraded to a large room with a view, which was perfect. We discovered a fantastic walk through a forest to Old Knobbley, an 800 year old oak tree. We were also told by the women in the tea shop opposite the hotel that the Mistley Thorn had been the house of the witchfinder general, an interesting piece of history. The hotel was beautifully and tastefully decorated. It feels like a destination, which is nice.

Our meal was good, but not exceptional. I think they would have been better off just using fresh local fish and seafood in the grilled seafood platter, as the fish was fantastic, the seafood less so, except the clams. The hotel was great, though, there was nothing I didn’t like about it.

The decor and attention to detail in the room was outstanding. We enjoyed the wide view from room 6 on the second floor, especially the sunrise.

The sloping ceilings in room 6 were quite steep and resulted in some head contact. The toilet seat position was quite high unless you were tallish.

Our room, in a nearby cottage, was very light and comfortable. Plenty of space, very comfy bed, armchairs, variety of teas and coffees provided and good selection of lights. The bathroom was also a good size, very modern and clean and with a supply of lovely toiletries. The team were very friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay
