Breakfast was fine- prices not exorbitant like some hotels. I have never been in a cleaner hotel. I was unaware of the scope of the hotel and found the staff exceptional- from the lovely ladies at the front desk, to the lovely lady at breakfast and the great guy Hadmid, who drove the shuttle. The employees are like quasi social workers ( which I am)- they have to have empathy, compassion, intelligence and understanding for the terrible things that happen at the hospital and to the families. So often these folks are alone and fighting battles with their partners across the street and when they come back ( home for so many) to the hotel they need to vent and the staff is there for them. We were there for a basketball game and were struck by the awesome devotion exhibited by staff. They all deserve a raise. I did say to the staff that I hope never to need their services (medical lodging) , but feel comforted that they are there. Thank you to the staff and owners for being cognizant of the needs of people who are suffering.
Not sure how parking was ever approved for the front of the building. Scary to think of a fire engine needing to drive in the front, but I am sure there are protocols in place and during an emergency, it will all work out. Plenty of parking in the back.

The staff was great very friendly and helpful. I declined the offered room change because I didn't want to be a problem and also didn't want to have to move our stuff.
The toilet handle was broken so had to use the lever inside for the two days. Not a big deal. What was the problem is hard as a rock beds kill your back and make you not sleep at all. Apparently my daughter didn't have a problem she says I'm princess and the pea.

Staff was very friendly, rooms were clean and well appointed. We didn't have any problems with noise, linens were very comfortable, slept well.
Rooms are pretty small. If someone is at the desk, you can't walk by. Also can't access the closet and drawers at the same time. Minor inconveniences, they squeezed a lot of amenities into a small space. Plan on heading to the lobby (lots of lounge seating and tables) if you need to do anything besides sleeping in the room. Water was not very hot in the morning (probably when most people were taking showers), but was okay at other times. Water pressure was terrible.

The staff was the best I have ever encountered in all my travels!! They were friendly and so helpful to me as I was traveling with my sister for cancer treatment. She has marked mobility issues. The staff helped in every way possible. The shuttle service was such a help in navigating the congested area. When we return, I will be staying at The Lodge!
It took a while to be able to get hot water. The mattress on one of the beds in our room was saggy.

Great location for visits to Duke hospital. Free shuttle was most welcome to get where I needed to go. Location was convenient to restaurants and shopping.
Room was not as clean as I like on arrival. After a word with the desk staff the room was cleaned and all was well.

The room was clean. There were plenty of towels and washcloths that supplied us for our entire stay. (Housekeeping was on request). Staff was especially courteous and friendly. Room was a standard size. Also there was free parking onsite and didn't have issues finding parking. We did not stay here due to a medical reason, but the hospital is right across the street if that suits your needs. It's also a short walk to the Duke Campus
The room was a bit dark. There wasn't much lighting. This wasn't a problem us but for some they may need a brighter room at night.

We stayed at The Lodge because my husband had eye surgery at Duke. The hotel was very good but the real jewel was Janelle! She was amazing, she got a wheel chair for my husband for both arrival and departure. She gave us cookies and was very friendly besides being helpful. We can't say enough about our experience with her! Thank you, Janelle!

Clean. Comfortable beds. Very friendly staff! (Ashley especially, but all staff!) Attractive, well-stocked bathroom. (TV nicely tucked in wooded frame)
Heater kept turning on and off every five to ten minutes. (Seemed to be a small draft around the unit. Triggering the thermostat?) Room 710

The Lodge was in a great location for our trip. It's only a few minutes away from the DPAC which was the focus of our trip. If your intended destination is Duke University Hospital, it is in direct diagonal eyesight of The Lodge. The staff we met were incredibly nice, helpful, and pleasant at check-in and check-out. The room was ready when we arrived and very clean. The room rate was also very affordable. I can highly recommend The Lodge and look forward to staying there again!
There wasn't anything to dislike about The Lodge.
