We absolutely loved staying at Casa Matará! The rooms were clean with comfortable, warm beds. I run cold and after reading lots of reviews of different Cusco hotels where reviewers mentioned being cold, was worried about being chilly, but felt completely cozy at Casa Matará. There was an extra blanket that we didn’t need to use. The included breakfast was delicious and filling, and cooked by the owners every morning. Much better than your typical free breakfast — It included fruit/yogurt/granola, bread, eggs, cheese/ham/avocado, and butter/fruit marmalade in addition to tea/coffee. I already miss it! Most importantly, the owners are so lovely and kind. Carmen felt like family, and we felt truly cared for. We stayed there both before/after our Inca trek trip, and they not only stored our luggage but remembered us by name and asked about our trip when we got back! This is a stay and location we won’t ever forget.

We stayed there twice, one room did only have a window to the hallway, the second one had a window to the outside. The latter was quite call though.

This property was very close to the plaza, it was very clean, and the staff was very friendly and professional. I love the fact that we were able to check in early, and they were quick to accommodate our arrival.

The staff is so warm kind and extremely helpful in every way. Carmen was the best host as she greeted us each morning with wonderful breakfast options. They even packed us a bag to go when we left for Machu Picchu very early one day during our stay. Breakfast options included coffee or tea, fresh rolls, cheese and ham, butter and jelly, fruits with yogurt and granola and eggs where Carmen shined by offering us whatever style we wanted. The accommodations are quaint and comfortable and we felt like home. Tea is offered at all times on your floor.

Absolutely nothing I highly recommend this quaint establishment

The best feature of this hotel were the staff. The lady at reception and who cooked us breakfast every morning went above and beyond to help us. From organising day trips to seeing us off at the front door when we left. Breakfast was pretty much the same each morning but that didn't bother us as it was excellent quality. The bed was large and very comfortable.

For a hotel of this standard the facilities weren't great. There was no mini fridge, no safe, no luggage racks, (all bags ended up on the floor) and no table to sit at or put things on, just a narrow bench). Trying to watch TV was like mission impossible. If you got past the “weak or no signal” the only thing that seemed to work was Netflix. No news channels or other channels. Anyway, the TV was small and a long way away that you almost needed binoculars to watch anything.

The hotel was ideally located and near the main square. Our room was spacious and impeccably clean, with comfortable beds. The staff was exceptionally friendly. Breakfast was delicious, highlighted by the delightful fruit yogurts. When we had early tours, the hotel provided us with breakfast boxes. At the end of our stay, we each received a charming llama keychain as a gift.

The shampoo bottles provided were quite small, and there should have been more toilet paper available.

The staff was really great! Super friendly and helpful. Really cozy hotel. Not just the room but there are hangout areas outside the rooms that are very nice to sit in and have a cup of tea. Close to everything in Cusco. Comfortable beds. Good breakfast. If you are going out early you can get a breakfast to go in a bag. Good AC. Good wifi.

This one is on us. We picked a too small room. If you are going to stay a few days check the size of the room and book a larger one. Otherwise nothing really to complain about.

We loved our 2 stays at the hotel. The family run hotel staff were so hospitable and warm. You can see that they have made upgrades to modernize and make the hotel comfortable with noise proofing on windows to keep out street noise and upgrades to the rooms. After returning from our Sacred Valley trip, they held our suitcase and made sure we were comfortable. From a delicious breakfast to helping us arrange taxi transportation, etc.

Nothing negative to stay

The receptionist Grecia assisted us very well and recommended several places such as nearby markets and restaurants. Another positive point was that we were able to leave our luggage at the hotel after check-out (as we went to Machu Picchu after the check-out).

We had two negative points to record: 1. On the first day, there were no bath towels. I went to take a shower and realized there was no towel to dry myself. I had to ask my wife to request towels at the front desk. 2. On the second day, there was a very strong smell coming from the bathroom window. It smelled like varnish applied to wood.

I liked everything. The woman who owns and runs the hotel is a very sweet and loving host who takes care of you as if she is your mother. I felt really looked after and that I was not just another customer. The rest of her staff is just as nice. It was really well located just a little bit outside the main tourist area. Only a 5 minute walk through a really safe area to all the main tourist things. This was perfect. The rooms were decorated in a clean and colorful way without being cluttered at all. Not like the boring plain decorations of a regular hotel. The common areas were warm and welcoming spaces that encourage you to meet other fellow travelers. Plenty of hot water both in the shower and at the tea stations that are located on every floor with complimentary tea whenever you like. Supermarket 2 blocks away to buy water and electrolyte drinks. Stay hydrated. Thank you to the woman who owned it! I hope we meet again!
