We loved our latest 5 night stay in May with Denis at the Island View House, and have stayed with him 3 or 4 times previously. Being there feels like going home!! We have recommended Island View House to some family and friends who also stayed there and enjoyed it. Denis is a wonderful host and the house is very inviting. The rooms are immaculately clean and quiet and the beds are very comfortable. We always sleep well there. Denis provides a lovely breakfast with plenty of choices: cereals, various breads, a selection of yogurts, juices, coffee and tea. But our favorite item was the large bowl of freshly cut fruit salad provided every day, including many kinds of fruit—it was absolutely delicious! There is plenty of parking available and it is a very short, easy walk to Main Street Castletownbere, which has some nice shops, a couple of pharmacies and several very good restaurants to choose from. And of course, the famous MacCarthy’s Bar! We miss Castletownbere and the Island View House already and hope to return again. The Beara Peninsula is magical. Great location with gorgeous views of Bere island and Denis is a very hospitable and friendly host. There's a lovely, warm lounge/breakfast area where you can help yourself to breakfast/tea/coffee. Spacious rooms with large comfy beds and 1 minute walk from the centre of town. Would highly recommend!

Denis was an amazing host, very fun and helpful. We felt very comfortable and we enjoyed our two nights there. The Island View House was located on a hill that we were able to walk down from into town, which did involve steps. For folks with walking issues, they would probably need to drive the car into town though the house is located just a block from the town center. Very nice and awesome breakfast too.

Our room's window overlooked the parking area, which meant when others were parking, that we had to close our curtains for privacy. That was really the only issue, and only seems to affect the room that we had.

Mattress fabulous but pillows very flat .. Sadly not the fault of the beautiful place we booked but it is on a steep hilly walk to the bars and reasturants, it is not a long walk ( about 6 mins down) but longer if walking up, and if have mobility or breathing probs could be difficult. Sadly the most awkward concern was our room ( number 6) right on car park and cars parked along our window and on a couple of occasions customers were coming or going to their cars and smiled awkwardly when looking in and seeing us so close to carpark, maybe a net curtain or blind needed as we had to keep curtains closed from 5 pm on a summer evening re privacy ..

Denis was an accommodating, caring and friendly host. Accommodation is tastefully decorated, plenty of storage for clothing. Ensuite bathroom was lovely, clean and excellent shower. I felt welcomed as a lone traveller and would recommend this as a great base for anyone looking to stay in or explore the Beara Peninsula. Excellent views over Castletownbere itself and a very peaceful spot behind the main high street, on the hillside, which allowed for a very peaceful and comfortable night's sleep each night.

The welcome from Dennis was fantastic. I loved the fresh warm bread at breakfast. The cereal, toast, ham and cheese was plenty. I really like that I could just come and make a pot of tea or some coffee. The room was very comfortable and the shower was decent. I was visiting Castletownbere with some friends who had a house in the town. No problem coming and going with a key late in, after the pubs shut.

I liked bedroom which was spacious, a huge very comfortable bed, and a view. Clean fresh linen. All facilities very clean, dining room with views. A very quiet location and easy 5 minute walk to high street. Denis was a delightful cheerie helpful host, with lots of local knowledge, it felt homely.

island House was a home away from home! Coffee, tea and a fruit tray available in the lounge area all day and evening long. The view is beautiful. The family dogs are even welcoming! But what made this place bb outstanding was the kindness and compassion they showed towards a family member who got sick while travelling. They allowed him to stay for several hours after checkout time even though we were only booked in the one night. We had a family function to attend and would have missed it otherwise. They kept an eye on him until we returned. They were such lovely people. I will certainly be returning to Island View on my next trip to Castletownbere. Irish hospitality at its best!!

Absolutely nothing!!

This guesthouse is great value for money. The owner and staff were really friendly and very helpful. The rooms were spotlessly clean. The location is ideal both in terms of the view and the 3 minute walk into the centre of the town.

Our host, Dennis, was very welcoming and friendly. He made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. He had great recommendations for restaurants and things to see and visit in the area too. The breakfast was great with fresh fruit and warm brown bread in addition to cereal, ham, cheese and yogurts! The views were beautiful, the bed was comfortable and the location great!
