Mac is a great host and provided daily tips based on our proposed activity. Normally this was done over the breakfast that was included (with vegetarian option). Loved the traditional style room and tatami matts and futon. Aircon was a saviour during the cold rainy nights to stay cosy and warm. The view from our room included Mt Fuji on a clear day (as per photo). Location is extremely easy to get to, just take the bus to Hakonemachi-ko, get off at the end of the line and walk across the street. Just behind the bus station is the pirate ship dock. Far enough away from the hustle but with easy transport options to get around. The Hakone Free Pass made it even easier for the stay here.
Eating options are limited for vegetarians. Mac did a vegetarian hot pot for our first dinner but it's between two people so no chicken for me Closest 7-Eleven was about 1km away. Water pressure can be a low and hot water sometimes ran out. No in-house laundry but there is a laundromat within a 5 min walk.

MaC, the proprietor, was so helpful before and during our stay. He gave us very clear instructions for arriving via bus from Odawara station and great advice for accessing the attractions around Hakone. He was also very friendly and interesting to talk with. Interacting with him was a highlight of our time in Hakone! The location is a block away from Lake Ashi and the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise port, which allows you to board before the crowd of people get on at Motohakone, and across the street from the Hakonemachi-ko bus terminal. It is also just down the road from Onshi-Hakone Park, which is beautiful. We ate in the on-site restaurant the first night and really enjoyed the chicken hotpot. We were able to find a nearby restaurant the second night. The included breakfast was simple but provided a great start to the day. We had a Western-style room, which was a good size and comfortable.
We aren't used to small establishments like this where everything happens at set times with limited flexibility (dinner only at 6 p.m., breakfast only at 8 a.m., limited hours for luggage storage). We were able to adapt and are still glad we chose Jemsty, but generally prefer more flexibility.

The staff here are lovely - friendly, incredibly helpful and looked after us well. They made delicious foods for breakfast and dinner, and the convenient location (meals were served downstairs) made our short stay that much easier. The inn location is also very convenient - 5 minute walk from the main bus station and ferry port [where we caught the Hakone Pirate Ship]. We had no problems with wifi at the inn, had an air con/heater in the room and warm blankets for the cold days. The host taught us about Japanese customs [such as leaving our shoes downstairs before walking into the inn, having separate slippers for different parts of the house, etc.] which was interesting!
The room was small for 3 people - as expected [it looks exactly like the pictures] - and a bit expensive [also as expected of all Hakone accommodations]. The dinners were also a bit expensive, which the host was very understanding about, and we managed to find options that worked within our budget. The meals were so fresh, healthy and delicious, so we considered these as part of our 'splurge' costs!

Fantastic location! Right across the street from the bus stop and pirate ship dock. Couldn't be more convenient. Very easy for using the Hakone Free Pass loop. The room was clean, quiet and big for Japan with 2 comfortable beds. The owner was interested in making sure I got the most out of my visit and gave me some very helpful recommendations.
The only negative was that there was no heat in the bathroom and it was very cold, but maybe I just didn't find the switch. The rest of the room warmed up quickly. The street is very quiet with only a couple of choices for restaurants and it is hit or miss if they are open or not. There was an udon place just down the road that was open for dinner and it was one of the best bowls of udon I have ever had! There is a fridge in the lobby so I brought some 7 Eleven sushi for the next evening and then was able to save the leftovers for the next day.

We loved our stay! It was so homely and cosy, just like being at your grandparents house. The hot breakfast in the mornings were delicious and the hosts checking in on your daily plans, giving you the best tips and tricks to make your itinerary just perfect. The hotpot for dinner is so delicious too! It was a great experience to stay somewhere more traditional with tatami floors and beds. I will definitely stay if I’m ever in Hakone again (and I really hope I am!)
Nothing!

Great location in Hakone village. Parking is about 130m away at lakefront, but that's right next to the pirate ferry dock. We opted for Japanese style room for the experience. Host spoke good English and was very knowledgeable of nearby attractions. Scrambled eggs woth sausages or ham + toast and diakon(?) Salad for breakfast included. Also went for chicken hotpot on 2nd night - very nice.
Booked via Booking.com? Thought I was booking the room rather than the number of guests (my search criteria was price for 2), but had to pay extra for 2nd person on arrival. Not sure if that was my error or poorly communicated in Booking.com.

Great location right across the bus/boat station. The owner/manager was super helpful and gave us recommendations on things to do. Beds were comfortable, room was very clean, and the aircon worked very well. Room was a great size too, very large. Breakfast was included and tasty. There is also a vending machine right outside the inn.
The staircase is narrow and hard to go up with luggage (the owner gave us notice about this and also allowed us space downstairs if we didn't want to carry all our luggage up). There was no fridge in the room.

Good change from regular hotels. The strict protocols could be a bit off-putting to some western tourists at first, but it was great to experience genuine personal Japanese hospitality. We ordered the hotpot in advance. A most enjoyable meal. Cooked individually at the table, with the host explaining the different ingredients. Good location for the Hakone loop. As advised by the host, taking the first boat out (just across the road) at 9:30 am headed off the crowds. A very personal experience with the host seeing us off across the road.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Jemsty Inn Hakone Ashinoko, and our experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the host welcomed us with warmth and genuine hospitality. Throughout our stay, he went out of his way to ensure we felt at home, providing valuable insights about the local area and offering assistance. The traditional Japanese rooms were a highlight of our stay, featuring tatami flooring and comfortable futons. The aesthetic appeal of the rooms added to the overall charm, offering a truly authentic experience. We would highly recommend this inn to anyone seeking a genuine and comfortable Japanese accommodation experience in the heart of Hakone.

The location was superb, right outside hakonemachiko. The host MaC is very knowledgeable, and thanks to his suggestion of going clockwise, I had a very fulfilling trip in Hakone, enjoying all the attractions (caught the boat, visited the shrine, took the ropeway before the weather got bad in the afternoon). MaC also prepares breakfast for the guests himself. The room, toilet and bath tub are all nice and clean. The futon is comfortable too. There is also a sky light - how cool is that!
