All staff very friendly and happy to help with any queries. Good meals served in the bar at reasonable prices. The restaurant was excellent with a relaxed atmosphere and superb Thai food. Breakfast was excellent with a good variety of cooked food beautifully presented and plenty of cereals, pastries, toast and fruit. My sister and I couldn't fault the place. There's a bus stop just outside which takes you to Durham if you don't want to drive. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. If you fancy a change for dinner there's an excellent Italian restaurant opposite the hotel.

No USB sockets in the room but if you forget to take an adapter the staff will get anything charged up for you.

Booked a family suite, room is spacious, clean and tidy and suits our needs for when we travel to Durham. This is our second stay at this hotel. Love the bar and the restaurant and absolutely love that you can get restaurant food in the bar - would highly recommend the yellow curry!

Nothing I didn't like, it would be nice to have a bedside table either side of the double bed. Bathroom sink will not hold water to be able to wash which is a bit frustrating, I know there is the concern of people leaving the plug in and the tap on but another solution could be sought such as, fining people for any water damaged caused.

Big, clean and comfortable room. Leave the sign on yoir door for room cleaning and it's done. Everything replenished. Lovely Thai Restaurant with fabulous food and a smart,clean bar area that also serves bar meals. On main bus route to Durham, Sunderland, Houghton and family so very commutable. Lovely views over the surrounding countryside and we could even see the famous Penshaw Monument.

Only 4 coat hangers for 2 of us staying for a week.

Friendliness of staff - checkin up to 11pm as standard. Clean rooms. Excellent Thai food. Bread selection at breakfast.

£11 breakfast whereby you are limited to selecting 5 items for cooked breakfast and charged £0.50 for extra items. Would expect if requesting guests to choose, then all eight/nine options should be available for the price with doubles of an item being an extra surcharge (if absolutely necessary). State whether items are tinned or fresh (eg tomatoes/mushrooms)

Booking.com had to reallocate my booking to Highfield Hotel from another I had booked but had closed down when I arrived. Although Highfield may not have been what I would have chosen it proved to be excellent in so many ways. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and always ready to help. Room was excellent and very comfortable.

I had selected my original hotel for its Evening Meal Menu which had a wide variety of meal choices. Food at Highfield was still exceptionally good though choices limited to bar meals with chips or a Thai restaurant. However, I enjoyed all the meals and especially recommend fish and chips with a very light batter and excellent fish.

The facilities at the Highfield were excellent. We had a lovely size room with a huge bed. Lift was convenient and easy access. It was very clean and tidy throughout. Bathroom had a great shower with strong water pressure . The area was nice and quiet , wifi coverage was fab. Balcony area was a nice touch . Breakfast was tasty and the staff were very polite and approachable.

Smart TV facilities would have been preferred to out dated freeview. Maybe 2 chairs and a table on balcony to make it more useable. The 5 items for the full english breakfast could maybe have been a bit more like 6 or 7. But nitpcking it was a lovely hotel and a relaxing stay.

The welcome and staff were very friendly and helpful and remained so throughout our stay. The accommodation was of a good standard and comfortable. Breakfast was very good value for money and the Thai restaurant a real bonus with excellent quality for the price asked. Overall an enjoyable stay

The WiFi offering is not secured which in this day and age needs to be addressed.

The staff are lovely. Really helpful and friendly. There's a lovely view and our room had a balcony. The shower was powerful. There's a bar serving food and a restaurant. The decor is fresh and the place is very clean. It's easily accessed from the Belmont park and ride.

Maybe just a few extra touches missing, like bottled water in the room or biscuits. The breakfast was very nice although only 1 type of pastry in a pre packaged wrapper. The cooked tomatoes were tinned-that's just a personal bug bear!

The building and rooms were lovely, the bar, breakfast and restaurant food was also lovely... and the staff were absolutely lovely.. looking forward to our next visit 💙

It's difficult to think of any criticisms, the only thing I wish was different was the breakfast time for the weekend. I'm guessing lots of people enjoy the bar and restaurant on Friday/Saturday.. then struggle to get up for breakfast 😁

Room was good, clean ensuite, comfy bed. Warm welcome from the staff. Very accommodating to my later than planned arrival

Room was very hot but unable to open windows as they were large (large enough to climb through) so couldn't ventilate on the hot night we stayed. I was unaware breakfast was includes so had made other plans so didn't get to try breakfast.
