Our group of three was walking the Cotswold Way. The hotel was nicely located and had a great onsite restaurant and bar - great selection of appetizers and beverages. Our group really enjoyed the outside facilities, we were there during an unusually warm summer day. The staff was very helpful, and kind. Our rooms were located on the top floor and the staff was kind enough to carry our suitcases up the two flights of stairs for us and place them outside our rooms. We had arrived before check in and the staff was able to accommodate us and let us check in about an hour before the allotted check in time. The beds were quite comfortable and the room had many amenities we enjoyed - the tea/coffee arrangements especially. Overall, we had a quick and pleasant stay and would highly recommend this hotel as a stop for anyone walking the Cotswold Way.

The downside, and not the hotels fault entirely, there was no air conditioning. We were located on the third floor that had very restricted window openings. We were given an extra fan to help with air circulation but it barely made a difference. Included is a photo of the slight window opening.

Beautiful building in a beautiful town. Our room was lovely with a nice shower room. Breakfast was very good and so was the coffee. And the biggest asset here is Dan, he works so hard and tackles everything with a smile and a polite demeanor.

The bed...The bed was so uncomfortable that I personally slept on the floor. My wife didn't mind as she had the bed to herself. Trust me, the floor was more comfortable than this lumpy, bouncy and sqeaky bed in the room called (something) chardonnay. It was the cheapest room available for a 1 night stopover so I didn't complain.

Staff were all friendly & efficient offering to carry luggage. Location in centre of Painswick opposite the pretty churchyard was perfect for exploring the village. Our Deluxe Double Room on the top (1st) floor at the rear of the building) didn’t have the views over the churchyard the front rooms would have had but had pleasant outlook & was very quiet so we got a good night’s sleep. It was a very last minute booking so the hotel was almost full. The bed was huge & good bathroom. A fan is provided in case the weather is hot but we didn’t need. Dinner was delicious & reasonably priced. We didn’t have breakfast. We only stayed one night but would be a good base for several nights.

Everything perfect except would prefer flatter pillows as they were too high & firm for me. Not a problem though as I always travel with my own low profile pillow & my husband was happy with the pillows.

We are just back from a three night stay at The Falcon Inn and it was fantastic. We stayed in the suite, which was very generously sized and had brilliant views out over the local church with its magnificent gardens. The suite was well-appointed, cosy and nicely furnished and the very large bed was comfy. The en-suite had a bath/shower which gave nice optionality and had nice toiletries and fully towels. We had breakfast a couple of mornings and it was excellent - there was a small buffet of cereals, parties and juices with a good selection of food to order from the a la carte menu (with the miniature hash browns being a real highlight). Coffee was good too. We dined one evening and the food was top-notch, with the pigeon wellington being the star of the show. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly throughout our stay, with the manager being a real delight, who couldn't do enough to help. We enjoyed staying in the centra of Painswick which is a very picturesque village. We enjoyed a number of fantastic walks in the local area (the Haresfield Beacon loop which we started at Edge, just a 6 min drive away, was our favourite) and you are only a short drive to Stroud and Cheltenham, if you are looking for more amenities. We will definitely look to return in future for another country getaway.

The pub is focussed more on dining than drinking, so there is more space focussed on that, but it is still possible to have a casual drink. If you are looking for a more casual experience or place to drink, there are other places around.

The staff were amazing, hard working, attentive, and very helpful. The room was small but very comfortable and well-stocked. The bed was just right too. We had dinner on our first night. My fish and chips were lovely but did have a bit too much batter. My partner had the stone bass which was 5 star. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice to suit all tastes. I found the Folcon Inn very welcoming and we had a wonderful 2-night stay.

I thought the food was a little over priced.

I hadn't been back to the Falcon for a few months, but it was just as I recall... Dan did the breakfasts himself, this time, and I noticed the tiny cute little pots of Heinz ketchup. I also enjoyed talking to Georgia about women's rugby, even if she wasn't entirely sure which position she plays! I only stayed for one night, but the veggie full English breakfast was worth going all that way for. Dan's doing a fine job. The vibes are very good nowadays. I stayed in Room 2, up on the second floor, with a great view of the church. Angle was still there, as was Danni, and everyone seemed happy. Paul

It's always a joy to return to the Falcon, and catch up with the ongoing soap opera. The same faces were there: Dan, Ollie, Danni, Hannah, Lorelei, Imogen, and Cameron. Dan seems to be pulling them together. I watched a team meeting in the bar, which they all seemed to enjoy. There were one or two nice touches: I noticed tall candles on the tables, which, now the evenings are drawing in.... Even those who left during all the unpleasantness seem to have forgiven them now, and I had a long chat with Kate and her polyglot boyfriend. But two unanswered questions remain: I cannot understand why I have a mental block about Hannah, and I never got to the bottom of Danni's bad hair day on Monday. Both of these issues bother me greatly, so I suppose I'll have to return soon, to make further enquiries. Paul

I don't know how they put up with me: I've stayed here many times now, and just as I got over my mental block about Hannah, I've acquired one about Lorelei. Never mind. She'll be off to Exeter Uni quite soon, for her final year, and taking those delicious mannerisms with her. Everything's "amazing" or "perfect" with her, and I can't get enough of it. Anyway, she brought me my veggie full English this morning, but without my sausage, which arrived later, with apologies. So, inevitably, I spent several minutes pondering the hidden meaning behind my sausageless breakfast, and eventually concluded that there wasn't one. Or, at least, if there was, it's between the Dalai Lama and me, and I'm keeping it to myself. But I must be doing something right: they put me in Room 6 this time, which, in my opinion, is easily their best. It really is a very nice room.

I have written more extensively on TripAdvisor, but I keep coming back to Painswick, which must say it all.

I think I've reached the conclusion now that Balfour have got the business model for the Falcon all wrong. They should go and take a look at the Oak. It's packed ... every night. More specifically, the Falcon is carpeted throughout, when you have walkers coming in with their muddy boots. The carpets are stained, and will always be so. Balfour need to understand that the Falcon is a country pub, and not an upmarket hotel, and then the locals will return. If Balfour don't know how to run a country pub, they will have to bite the bullet, and sell the Falcon.

We had a view looking out the front over St Mary’s church. It was stunning. The decor of our room was lovely as was the bar/restaurant. We had a fantastic evening meal there and staff were very attentive and friendly and offered to take our bags up to our room. Breakfast was full of flavour as well as a good quality local juices etc. Would love to stay again!

It was a very hot night and although they provided a fan, it could have done with air con but understand it’s not often we have weather like this but also would detract from the look of the bedroom (so not a negative review at all)!!
