I liked the decor, and I especially liked the view from the window (though I closed the curtains as people could walk past it). Comfortable bed. Quiet room (41) so a good night's sleep and no disturbance from a wedding or rooms either side (occasional dog barking next door). Thoroughly delicious dinner in the restaurant and friendly, helpful staff. Good location for Stroud and Wotton. Beautiful setting.

The lighting was fine for us if I put all lights on, but if I had wanted to work I would have needed better lighting. We made use of the car charging point overnight, but I would recommend putting in more and faster charging points.

The staff were all truly amazing, from the moment of arrival to check out we were made to feel special. The service and food quality in the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner was superb. Small room details stopped my review being a 10, part of the two piece shower did not work and the toilet roll holder and the spare toilet roll holder were incorrectly fitted so the toilet rolls fell off. It seems trivial but when I mentioned it to reception they knew about it but said, with a shrug, 'difficult to get these sort of things fixed'. I suggest Management takes such things seriously, not to do so is disrespectful to the wonderfully customer focused staff. We will be back as soon as we can, it is a special place.

Lovely cosy room with a decent bathroom and good shower. Lots of free parking. Beautiful location surrounded by walking trails. Good choice of breakfast items both hot and cold.

Would have liked a fridge in our room. Food expensive and of variable quality. Beautiful meat and fish dishes but beware of having to pay extra for potatoes and veg, plus avoid the deconstructed desserts! Very limited veggie options. Staff very polite, kind and friendly but poorly trained, both at dinner and breakfast. The table was cluttered with excess crockery, wine glasses, dirty plates etc and we had to constantly ask for things, which were sometimes forgotten so we had to ask again! Such a shame - gourmet prices but sloppy service that could be easily solved.

Excellent breakfast, but expensive due to unusual pricing structure. Comfortable room with good shower and facilities. Great location. No special food offers on a Monday, so we ate elsewhere.

There should be a price for an inclusive breakfast (continental and full) rather than just the separate prices. the continental breakfast could be more extensive and varied (fruit salad was mainly melon which was offered separately) and is not good value if taken with the full breakfast (as it is unlikely you would eat much of it). There should be more of the comfortable armchair type seating in the bar and other areas. Some areas lack atmosphere due to harsh lighting.

We had an upstairs room in the Country House. This is an annexe but close to the main hotel building and quiet. Very nice shower. Communication with the hotel beforehand was very good, quick and professional and helpful. There are lots of places to sit and chat indoors and outside there is a very nice seating area with outdoor bar. Very good parking. Nice coffee. Watch out for the cows on the common (which includes the road we came in on). There is a cattle grid for the hotel so no worries about cattle invasion, just watch out for cows and deer on the approach roads because you are in the Cotswolds!

All good

Charming hotel located between two beautiful commons that we loved exploring and walking through. Very friendly and helpful staff at the reception and restaurant. The breakfast was really good with a lot of options that you don't usually see in a "breakfast included" hotel and we really liked the dinners as well. The hotel itself was ideally suited to explore the Cotswolds and had a charm of its own in the night as it was not inside one of the villages. We would love to stay here again.

Our only issue was that our room was not cleaned on the 2nd day of our 3 night stay and it was not a very thorough cleaning on the 3rd day either. The room was perfectly clean when we checked-in though, so not sure if this standard procedure while you are staying there....we were too busy to find out/complain about it. Also, fair warning, request a room on the lower floors if you have heavy luggage or mobility issues as the property doesn't have lifts - although that information was advertised and known before hand to us..so it was a conscious choice. Just wanted you to know.

Lovely room. Beautiful view. Quality bedding, towels and toiletries. Excellent quality complimentary teas, coffee and water... (oooh and biscuits), replenished daily. Fantastic location for views, and for walks right from the door of the hotel(ideal for dog owners). Stroud/supermarket only 5 mins away. Quiet. Great breakfasts(even for dogs). Every member of staff we spoke to were friendly, charming and helpful. Already recommended you to friends and family and we hope to return soon.

Whilst our room was a good size, extremely well equipped and comfortable, it was a little dusty on the surfaces and skirting boards. I did mention this to your team and it was rectified the following morning. We loved the quality of the food served in your beautiful gardens, and the comfort of the table settings, it was slightly let down by the tables themselves not having been cleaned down prior to service.

We spent part of our honeymoon in the Cotswolds and had a fantastic stay at the Bear. Nicki at the front desk was exceptional and simply a lovely person - welcoming, helpful, and a joy to talk to. The hotel and grounds were beautiful and ideally located at the foot of the common. Recommend including breakfast with your stay. Great value, would absolutely come back.

Could have used a small refrigerator in the room for drinks and keeping sandwich ingredients for lunches to take on excursions in the Cotswolds, but it was a minor issue.

It was our second stay at the hotel and definitely not our last. It is located on the commons and wonderful walks in all directions from the hotel. This time we had a corner room with views of the green lush country side in both directions. The views from the restaurant were similar. You almost want to sit there all day! I remember the food fondly from our previous stay. This time we had the Sunday roast. It came with all the trimmings and the Yorkshire pudding was superb!

Nothing. Everything was good and better than expected.

We stayed for one night while passing through. The staff at reception were ever so friendly and this was generally consistent throughout our stay. They upgraded us to a bigger room which was a nice surprise. Love the cosy pub, little courtyard, and other areas one can choose from to have a drink or sit down. For supper we had the Haddock and chips which was delicious! We didn't have time to go for a walk but we saw many people walking in the area.

Breakfast options were good, however they sadly overcooked our poached eggs. Coffee was only available in a french press and tasted gritty. We did not drink much of it.
