I can only reiterate what many others have said on Tripadvisor. This is possibly the best hotel we have stayed in. It is spotlessly clean and the attention to detail is amazing - rearringing the fruit at breakfast, fluffing up the cushions in the lounges, cleaning the ceiling fans and maintaining the gardens - all done constantly. It would be rude to mention staff by name because there isn't a single one of them who doesn't deserve praise, from reception to bar to restaurant to maintenance. Breakfast is amazing - I have never seen an egg-boiling machine, pancake maker, automatic yoghurt dispenser or honeycomb before! And of course the toaster provides endless entertainment every morning. The pool is a little brisk (to say the least) but huge and with the more than adequate number of sunbeds, each with a table, never any of the conflict you get at other hotel pools. But not only were the staff fantastic, so were the other guests. We met and socialised with people from many different countries and found them great company. It is not a cheap hotel but, as I said, probably one of the best. However - maybe the owners should consider having the pool toilets and changing rooms put in a museum. They have probably been there since 1926!!

Some of the weather!

The hotel is an excellent location on the sea front, it has a divine little garden plus a private swimming pool. Every member of staff went above and beyond to be helpful and friendly. Our room was spotless, spacious and very comfortable. Bus stops at front and rear of the hotel, train station a 20 minute walk. Bicycles for hire. Breakfast was amazing with fresh delicious hot and cold food to choose from. Restaurant for evening dinner is reservation only if you are not half board and you are required to dress smartly. We couldn't believe out luck when we checked into this hotel.

Staff, ambience, hotel itself, poolside bar, swimming pool, evening drinks (special thanks to Nicola), outdoor dining area. We certainly hope to return (this was our second visit).

The shower in the room was a little tricky to use. No light in the cubicle and difficult to adjust to the preferred temperature. The room was slightly smaller than the last time we visited (same room type). However, these were minor issues.

First night was bumpy .. Night receptionist told me I shld have known of extreme noise at night in beachfront rooms .. HOW?? Hmm ..but they moved us to back of hotel following night, so FINE .. 50% of staff are grumpy btw .. but noise later night front of hotel..should have been noted in hotel description???!!!

The property was very grand, roomy with some great views of the sea and the mountains. The restaurant was very comfortable and airy, pool was very nice and very clean.

The outside area didn’t have enough seating, the sunbeds would be reserved as there was no control of this and then there would be nowhere to go. Also the restaurant was difficult to book if you were staying but not half board.

Wonderful hotel! Interesting interior and decoration. The room is comfortable, clean and spacious. Breakfast is quite varied. We stayed at the hotel in April, the swimming season had not yet begun, there were few guests in the hotel, which added coziness and atmosphere. We were upgraded to a sea view room. The reception staff were very nice. especially Julia. She helped arrange sun loungers for us on the beach. We spent unforgettable hours by the sea! The holiday was wonderful!

Superb location on the beach front. Staff very attentive, good recommendations for restaurants. Hotel and rooms very old world, lovely light rooms. Pool very nice with a lovely garden and dining out space.

We were upgraded to a family room which was lovely, but the shower in the bathroom was disappointing. Situated over the bath and difficult to stand under to shower comfortably. The only fault of the hotel was the small bathroom and shower.

It’s certainly Grand! Fantastic position. Spacious, elegant. Old school glamour. Faultless staff.

A few areas are a bit dated but it’s how it should be. Part of the charm. Smoking area by the pool a bit unpleasant if you don’t enjoy the smell Of smoke. The coffee isn’t brilliant at breakfast. Road infront a bit noisy at night but it’s part of the seafront location in Viareggio.

The hotel location is great, just a few steps away from the beaches, a beautiful park as well as the shops and restaurants. The staff was extremely polite and responsive. Rooms are big, especially for stays longer than a few days it provides enough space to feel comfortable and at home. Breakfast provides a big range of everything from fruits to eggs, deli and gluten-free options.
