Perfectly placed in the heart of Groningen, this hotel is a gem when traveling. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating when we encountered a minor issue with the room, and we were instantly given a new room (though with double beds instead). Everything was very clean and welcoming, and despite being in the center, the hotel was extremely quiet. Beds were extremely comfortable, and our bathroom provided us with a huge shower and extra bathtub! Towels were also soft and thick, which becomes rare when traveling lately, and room provided us with a big wardrobe, very nice when traveling multiple days.

Some of the rooms lack luminosity (small roof windows), and despite being relocated, our window opened towards an area with all the air conditioning units blowing out, making it impossible to sleep with the window open at night, which we enjoy. Happily, an a/c was available in the room. Though cleaning was impeccable, housekeeping often came around quite late in the day, so we often bumped into each other while coming back to the hotel to relax in the afternoon.

Everything was amazing, the staff is so nice and polite and always ready to help. The hotel is in prime location, on the main square within walking distance from everything (station included). The parking at the Forum (for both cars and bikes) is literally 2 mins away. You can always order room service from their restaurant, and they offer a welcome drink. Coffee, tea and water with lemon are always available in the lounge free of charge. Their lounge is amazing. The price was great, the rooms big, great heating and room service. There is luggage deposit and they help you if you have many luggage (as I did). I would totally recommend and for sure come back.

We stayed for 4 nights and really missed a fridge! Even a small bar fridge is better than nothing! The staff offered to put things in their fridge but we didn’t have access to it so that didn’t work for us either! This really affected our rating score!

This hotel is fantastic. It's located in the main square of Groningen, we were a bit scared of the sounds during the night but the room has double window and we didn't hear anything, even though we had a room facing the square. The receptionist was very friendly, the room was clean and spacious.

The only little thing I could say is that the shower had a fixed shower handle. I don't wash my hair every time I shower that's what this was a the little thing I could say about it. The rest was fantastic. We will come back.

Great location, good room, large bathroom. It has been a while since I received a personalized, hand-written "Welcome to the hotel" message!!! Friendly, engaged, positive and professional staff. Excellent breakfast. Wonderful, old-style country club atmosphere in the large sitting area. A free welcome drink on the terrace restaurant. Tea and coffee 24/7

The Boutique Hotel De Doelen is a classic townhouse in the middle of the Grote Markt in Groningen. In the old house, which is in a well-kept condition, you can explore the center of Groningen directly. From here you have everything in the immediate vicinity within a short walking distance. The breakfast was excellent and was completely sufficient in all respects and we really enjoyed it! Right next to the hotel is the well-known cafe/restaurant/bar De Drie Gezusters, Groningen. This is also part of the hotel, very practical when things get more entertaining If we come to Groningen, we would love to come back here!

Excellent center-of-town location, very friendly accommodating staff - will stay at hotel again if given the opportunity. Little things made the difference - friendly reception and staff, clean room (with welcoming note), complimentary drinks, access to coffee and tea, a warm fireplace (even in July!) and frankly good value for money, meant we had a very pleasant stay.

Overall, the hotel might look a bit "dated"; however, we rather experienced it as cosy & comfortable and the staff's positive attitude more than made up for any detracting aspects.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly, the beautiful sitting room with the wonderful breakfast and ability to order drinks or food in such a warm and beautiful surrounding with a view of the Martinitoren. The location was amazing. Bathroom was very large and functional. Beds were simple but comfortable. Hallways were elegant and well decorated. Sitting room was a special place, like a library with books and a beautiful fire in the fireplace.

We could only see an interior work yard from our window, but we didn't spend time in our room

A charming old hotel in a fantastic location. The staff were all lovely - kind, friendly and helpful. The coffee machine with 24 hour availability is brilliant.

Just one small point. Our room (303) was very nice but too small for the king size bed - it was quite difficult to walk around - so maybe a regular double would be better. Lovely bathroom though!

I was very impressed with the staff working that day. The initial room was not up to standards and the 2nd room wasn't clean. The 3rd and final room was better as the facilities made up for some mishaps. A nice upgrade in the end. I sadly have forgotten the name of the lady at the reception but she took great care of me. She really saved the day and made my stay pleasant in the end despite a rough start. If it weren't for her efforts to accommodate me the tone of this review would have been significantly less merciful. Great customer service! The location is superb and the building and interior were interesting. I would consider visiting again.

I didn't like that my initial room wasn't clean. A bit of a letdown after traveling hours. Only to find out that the bathroom isn't cleaned properly. As well as finding out that some gunk from a previous visitor was in the bathroom. I have pictures of it but I'll spare the details. A more thorough cleaning and treatment of fungus in bathroom is advisable. Other than that everything was perfect.
