The whole staff made our stay memorable! They were really helpful, always happy and smiling. Special thanks to ZENA (floor manager) who always took care of us and accommodated all our needs. Zena and her team went above and beyond in organizing a birthday surprise for us. Steven and Dula from the restaurant were super friendly and always in a good mood which made our days :) Sophia from reception was really helpful and advised us on any questions we had. The best part was the access to the beach, as the hotel is directly connected. The garden view of the palm trees from our room was just magical. We could walk barefoot from our room all the way to the beach as it is all sandy. The sea was most of the days calm with shallow turquoise water, exactly like in the pictures. We were truly impressed by the surroundings and the evening buffet, which happened every Wednesday with live music, dancing, and local food.

Wifi - time to time the wifi didn't work properly, which is totally normal on the island, and we didn't have high expectations anyway. Air Conditioning - during the day the AC went off, but we didn't mind as we didn't spend the day in the room, and the fan was a great back up solution Some insects and lizards sometimes appeared in our room but that's something you can't avoid in this area

The hotel staff worked tirelessly to keep things clean, tidy and did everything possible to make the stay enjoyable. The hotel is in a really good location too.

The hotel is in my opinion simply too expensive given everything. The food menu is absurd for any standard. Expect prices like you are in the Netherlands or Sweden, which is a joke. If the owners gave high salaries to their staff at least I would even be ok with this but I know that this isn't the case and someone is just skimming the profits this way. Shameful really to think that all Muzungus coming to your hotel at some idiots who don't know what's going on.

The beach was amazing. We wanted to be as close to the sea as possible, and didn’t want the tide to go out a long way. Kendwa beach was perfect. once you were down on the beach, the bar, restaurant, toilets were all in close proximity. There were plenty of lovely thatched sunshades and sun loungers with cushions, but you did need to get there early to reserve your spot with a beach towel (provided), because the hotel lets in lots of day visitors, a lot of Russians, and if you have not got your sunlounger before they arrive, then you will struggle to get one for the rest of the day. The lunch menu was great for full board, delicious local prawns, squid, burgers, samosas, etc. Breakfast quite limited, not ham or cheese for your breakfast omelette, and if you are full board, as we were for 4 days, your dinner will be from the buffet. After 4 days we went bed and breakfast, so then went out for dinner, either getting a boat taxi to Nungwi ($15) and taxi home ($10) or a walk down the beach in Kendwa where there were quite a few restaurants.

Our room had very low wattage light bulbs so could not read at night. Some of the newer rooms had good reading lights but some had none at all. Lovely beach barbecue evening once a week, with live music, but the rest of the week is pretty quiet. Large dining room area with large seating area with lots of comfortable sofas and cushions, where people can use Wi-Fi. This is the only Wi-Fi available in the hotel, but it did work pretty well.

Fresh fruits to start the day and a wonderful option of meals throughout the day. Location, location, location as they say. Best beach, clear water, no tides and a vibrant atmosphere with loads of different travellers staying at the resort. Loved the beachy decor in public areas and laying out on the daybeds each day. The staff at the beach area are attentive, courteous and very helpful with setting up the sunbeds and tables. It's a family friendly resort, with a volleyball space, pool table and it's right on the beach. There's loads of space at the poolside and resort surrounds. There are plenty of extra activities also available from private companies such as kayaking, jet skis, sunset cruises etc AMAZING staff all round!

We stayed 3 nights in Standard rooms and really enjoyed them. The rooms were spacious with a beautiful ocean view, cleaned every day, and overall very comfortable for our stay. The staff were very friendly and check-in was on time.

There was some noise if a party was happening at the bar. The restaurant prices felt a bit too high, and the food was not worth it — we found much better meals for the same price at the nearby Rocks Kendwa Hotel, where you can also enjoy a bonfire by the beach. The barbecue dinner at our hotel was not worth the money. The billiard table had no balls, and the swimming pool was dirty — we didn’t use it once during five days.

I stayed at Sunset Kendwa Resort for 4 nights, and overall, I had a great experience. Everything was well-maintained — from the walls and cleanliness to the friendly staff, restaurant, and amazing location. The best part is that it’s right on the beach, which made my stay even more enjoyable. Overall, I enjoyed my time here and would recommend it for its beachfront charm and relaxing atmosphere.

There are a couple of things that could be improved. The Wi-Fi did not reach my room, which was a bit inconvenient, and the breakfast menu was almost the same every day during my 4-day stay.

We were in a bungalow (#40) a short stroll from the beach, bar and restaurant. All the facilities were kept clean by friendly staff. The barmen were excellent and got to know our preferences. The cocktails were very tasty and the beer was cold. The breakfast buffet was good with plenty of variety, but largely catered for American/Western tastes with little in the way of local flavours. The dinners we had were all excellent. The beach is superb and swimming in the sea (in the protected area away from the jet skis) was very enjoyable. Small areas of coral were accessible from the beach so snorkelling to watch the tropical fish was easy and Starfish Heaven was just south of the resort (visible at low tide). The swimming pool, right on the edge of the beach, was a good size and well maintained.

The room needed some drawer space to unpack our cases. A couple of bedside lights would have helped. Running the gauntlet of beach traders to get to the sea.

This hotel is way much bigger than we thought and saw in the pictures. We hade a room on the beach which was very nice. From the beginning it was little hard for me to feel comfortable because when we lived in Paje the hotel was smaller and more personal, this was not but it did grow on me. The beach is easier to swin in and i really liked Kendwa much more than Nungwi. Overall we had a good experiance and the staff was great! This hotel is a good choice because of its price and location specially if you wanna live in Kendwa!

Just beware that Kendwa Rocks is located next to this hotel and when Kendwa has event its craaazy noise, just be aware of that. I coudnt sleep my first day because of a concert but thats it. This hotel needs to adress upcoming event to inform their guests. Otherwise it was so quiet and nice! Love love!

Location: Excellent beach location. Few things to do or see in Kendwa village but this didn’t bother us. Room: Spacious room for a family of 3 and spacious bad. No wardrobe but this seems to be the standard for many hotels on the island. Excellent cleaning services and extremely friendly, polite and professional staff. Reception: Excellent service. They helped us order several trips and everything was excellent. Restaurant. We paid for half board: Breakfast: Almost the same choices each day. A bit boring but Ok, with freshly baked items each day, pancakes, omelets and fruit plates.The service is without doubt good. We had to pay 2$ pr. breakfast box that doesn’t include any drinks. Food and drinks during the day: Prices are in USD and are almost the same as in other similar places. We were happy with the service. Dinner: Menu with different choices every evening. The food is tasty and the portions are big. Good and quick service. Colleagues who stayed in the neighboring The Rock came to eat lunch and dinner in The Sunset hotel restaurant because they liked better both the food and the service. When we moved to Tembo Hotel in Zanzibar city we also got something to compare with and already miss the food from The Sunset. Overall a great hotel, with beautiful gardens, spacious rooms and great people. They need only to work out a good concept for any dinner events to avoid dissatisfaction among customers who have paid for half board.

The Inet was as described by the Hotel. They should invest in better inet that also covers the rooms.

Great location by a fabulous white sand beach. Beach gets quite busy but all the sellers are very polite and not aggressive at all so not a major issue. Beautiful sunsets. Staff very helpful. Reality check - this is not a 5 star hotel and you are not paying 5 star prices so adjust your expectations accordingly. Service could be a little slow at time but a gentle reminder sorted things out. No need to overreact, you can see everyone working here is doing their best to be helpful. Rooms were very clean, large and a/c worked well.

Not sure if I would say didn’t like but some of the food was quite basic but some of the fish eg prawns were sensational 5 star hotel standard.
