From the moment I arrived at Abbyglen Castle, I was enveloped by its serene charm and breathtaking views. The location itself is nothing short of magical, offering a peaceful retreat surrounded by stunning landscapes that take your breath away. It’s clear that the owners have poured so much care and love into the property. Every corner of the castle reflects attention to detail, from the cozy interiors to the meticulously kept grounds. The atmosphere here feels so inviting, making it easy to relax and unwind. There is a wonderful sense of peace that surrounds the entire place, making it a perfect getaway for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. What sets this place apart, however, is Brian, the owner. He has a special gift for making everyone feel like family. His ability to entertain and bring guests together is unmatched, and it’s obvious he loves what he does. He shows genuine interest and takes the time to get to know each person, ensuring everyone feels included and at home. To top it off, he’s an incredibly talented piano player and singer, adding a personal touch with live performances that create an unforgettable atmosphere. His warmth and musical talent elevate the experience, making you feel like you’re staying with an old friend.

Outstanding heritage hotel 5-10 mins walk from Clifden town centre. The spacious grounds are very impressive as you enter the property, and the main building and bedrooms ooze history. The team provided a warm welcome with a swift check-in. We had intended to eat in town but couldn’t resist the complimentary Prosecco reception with an informative talk on the local history by the charming Ronan, followed by a very decent meal in the restaurant. Excellent breakfast. At all stages I was so impressed by the friendliness and competence of the staff, with surprising attention to detail. Excellent!
Nothing negative to report

The location is superb, the staff more than helpful and the rooms were not just beautiful but warm and welcoming. There is an information prosecco welcoming evening. The history of the area and the hotel given in a wonderful story telling style, this reminds me of the old Irish tradition. I can not recommend this hotel enough
I always feel the most important aspect is not that a hotel is perfect but that life happens and things occur. We were not happy with our room at the start. When this was brought to the hotel, Carla at the reception was wonderful. She could not help enough. She really made our stay better than what I could have imagined

Abbeyglen Castle is a true gem. From the moment you arrive, the personal touch of the owners shines through — warm, welcoming, and genuinely invested in making your stay special. It’s this hospitality that turns a visit into a memorable experience. The setting is equally impressive: nestled in the stunning Connemara landscape, the views are breathtaking and the atmosphere is wonderfully peaceful. The castle itself has charm and character in abundance. Well worth the visit — not just for the location, but for the people who make it feel like home.
The whole experience.

The receptionist was welcoming and friendly. The evening talk with prosecco was great. Breakfast was good and the service was great. My room was a good size and comfortable.. I enjoyed the short walk into Clifden town.
The view from my room was of a rather disheveled garden which was a little disappointing. Perhaps that was just due to the time of year. The fire in the entrance hall struck me as rather wasteful (and environmentally unfriendly) given that that the front door was always open.

It was unique and had kept the original style and qualities of the castle. The room was gorgeous and so spacious as well as having a beautiful bath. The staff were very nice and helpful. Brian and Ronan the owners were so welcoming and friendly and on hand to play their part which emphasises the care that is put into the premises. The breakfast was delicious and was definitely worth getting out of the very comfy bed for…which says a lot

Location is excelllent. The car park had an electric vehicle charger. The manager greeted us in the foyer. Reception staff went out of their way to help us when we had an issue with something. Dinner was excellent. I don’t want to give too much away but there’s real attention to detail in making you feel welcome. We really enjoyed our stay and will be keeping an eye on booking.com for future stays.
Can’t think of anything.

Fabulous rooms, incredibly warm Irish hospitality and service. Excellent food. Loved the complimentary Prosecco in the evening with many guests coming together and listening to the history about the region and the castle. Highly recommend the experience. We absolutely loved it.
Table tennis table needs to be replaced and moved indoors. Or perhaps removed from facilities.

Classic, vintage luxury. Historic building set upon beautiful grounds. The Hughes family owners & operators are amazing. This hotel has been family owned and operated since the 1960’s, and those decades of care and experience have enabled both Brian and Ronan to extend a wonderful experience guests. We love this place - and you will too.
