Harriet on the front desk carried our cases for us. Our room was spacious and comfortable. There was a gluten free breakfast menu. The waitress was helpful and friendly.

we didn't really dislike any thing,in places the decor is a little tired but it is an old and lovely building.

This is a fabulous old building which is fast approaching 500 years old Breakfast was a choice of cereals and fruit plus the standard fare of hot food and it was served quickly. However, they need the breakfast times changed on the website as they serve from 7am until 10am We ate dinner on two nights, first night very good, second night acceptable - service good on both Most of the staff we came across were a delight, apart from Miss Trunchbull. Kudos to Beth and the deputy manager who were both efficient, warm and friendly The bathroom was relatively newly redone and there was plenty of hot water and good pressure for an older hotel

The bar prices are some the highest in Devizes - £6.45 for a pint of Guinness is a bit of a cheek; similarly, spirits were on the pricey side The room we had was so tired that I don't think it's been refurbished since 1560 - there was a gaping hole in the cheap lamp shade and there were some unpleasant stains under the bed. Wadworth REALLY need to invest some of their money in this wonderful place, which THEY'RE OBVIOUSLY NOT!

Check in was easy and friendly. Room was wonderful. As it was overlooking the market place I expected some noise but I was pleasantly surprised. Bathroom was excellent. The bar staff were helpful and friendly and one of them (sorry, can't remember her name) gave me a tip for an Indian restaurant (thanks, because that was fab too). Nice breakfast served quickly (but see below). Great location for the locality and for further afield. I'd stay again.

I've never been a fan of a cooked breakfast with a ramekin of baked beans. I like baked beans and like a decent serving. The little pot that the beans were served in here though, have to be the smallest portions I have ever seen. This is of course a small and perhaps personal point and it wouldn't stop me staying again, but more beans please, even if it's just the offer of more than one pot!

Breakfast was fine. The room was excellent, overlooking the market place. It's an old building and some uneven floors were to be expected. The bar area was good and the beer was excellent. The hotel is obviously an important resource for local people and was busy every morning. Breakfast and dinner were okay; we had breakfast every morning and dinner on one occasion.

For an older couple a night light to illuminate the two stairs to the bathroom (£3 in the local hardware shop) would help as would a couple of grab rails on the walls of the bath area.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Devizes. It's a very old building, with lots of character. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, all en-suite, with a TV, fan, lovely large towels and a great hospitality tray with bottled water and biscuits. The shower was great! The breakfast is plentiful and there are lots of options, hot and cold. There's a large car park at the rear. Register your car at reception to avoid a fine.

Beware of market days. The hotel faces the market square and it's very noisy early Thursday mornings when the traders are setting up.

The Bear is right in the centre of town, so handy for anyone wanting to see the local attractions (museum and locks, for example). Despite being an old coach inn, the rooms have been furnished to a very good standard, We had an evening meal there as well as the included breakfast the following morning - both excellent. Good parking facilities at the rear (register your vehicle as soon as you check in).

Being on the main road, there is some vehicle noise (typical boy-racers in the area). There is an unavoidable climb up the stairs if you're in an upper room... c'est la vie, the Georgians didn't have lifts!

We were staying for 2 nights and attending a family funeral so not a holiday but the hotel was perfect for our stay. The location is amazing and the staff were so friendly and welcoming we would definitely stay here again. Breakfast was delicious, rooms had everything you could need and a bit more, iron and ironing board, toiletries in bathroom, good size tv etc.

There are lots of stairs so not good for less mobile people. There is lift access to one floor but you need to go outside to get to it which is fine in nicer weather but not so good in the rain. Market getting set up very early on Thursday morning was noisy if your room is at the front of the hotel but was lovely to have a wander around.

The hotel is in the centre of town, so has easy access. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast. We ate in the restaurant and had an extremely enjoyable evening meal. Great service and value for money. We had a twin room overlooking the town square, very clean and comfortable, although would benefit from some updating. It has an olde world feel, traditional and comfortable.

The only negative for us was the different levels within the building, steps up and down between the restaurant, bar and exits. If you had any mobility issues it could be a problem.

Loved the interior, was tastefully decorated in line with its age and history. The staff discovered my husband and l had just got married and left some rose petals on our bed, plus made two swans out of towels. This was a pleasant surprise on entering our bedroom.

No disabled facilities. I hadn’t realised the lift only went up to the first floor, we were on the second floor. Also the bath was too high for me to climb into and because bit wasn’t an accessible room, didn’t have any grab rails. But this was my fault for not checking prior to booking.

My room was very quiet, which was excellent. Breakfast was also excellent. Staff, as always, were delightful.

The duvet on the single bed was too narrow. Please provide slightly wider duvets. The curtains were a long way forward of the window aperture so a lot of light came round the edges. This would be a big problem in the summer when it gets light much earlier. I was disappointed that I was unable to have lunch at the hotel after checking in on Saturday because the kitchen closes between 2:30pm and 6pm. However, the staff suggested excellent alternative locations and I returned to the bar at the hotel after dining.
