We chose Pelican Cove as an overnight break during a long drive down to Key West. We're so glad we did. Because we were staying only the one night, our accommodation was chalet standard rather than hotel room quality, but functional and comfortable none the less. But the show-stopper was the beach - sheltered, so not turbulent; great for swimming, snorkeling and kayaking, or just lazing the day away, it was a little piece of perfection. The staff were lovely - very helpful - and gave us a great recommendation for a nearby restaurant, where we had a fabulous meal and watched a spectacular sunset. I would highly recommend Pelican Cove to anyone.

What's not to like?

We have been to The Pelican several times throughout the years. We keep coming back because it is a small chill place right on the beach, nice room with kitchenette, good size bath and comfortable bed. They have a washer/dryer on premises and usually offer a good price.

Before COVID they offered breakfast we wish they would do that again, not just for the food but it was a great way to chat with others. Wish they would add to amenities for ex: paddle boards and bicycles would be nice Pricing seemed high compared to other similar locations- next time we book we will look around and not automatically go to The Pelican

I’ve been staying at this property for many years and it’s always been enjoyable..

In all these years I’ve never had a complaint..this last time my neighbors in the adjoining room were extremely loud and rude..left a bucket of bait directly on my path from the room to my car which was covered in flies and stunk..Smoked right outside my room that it caused my room to smell of smoke.. I in no way blame the staff, they can’t control the manners of guests.. With that said I will return, just hoping for more respectful guests bunking next to me next time!

I loved the outdoor atmosphere, I literally felt like i was on a tropical island. Me and my husband went out to the beach docks every night and could hear the fish doing little jumps out of the water. It was soo peaceful and beautiful especially during sunset. It was also cool to dine in at a Dine-in, Diners, Dives restaurant from the food network show. Right next to our hotel, amazing food. Other than that I like how it wasn't extremely crowded compared to key west.

I do have to say the walls were pretty thin. And parking was quite a pain to find available spots. I do recommend having a rental car because for key largo; not a whole lot of activities nearby. We ended up driving a lot. Took a good 2-3 hours driving up and down the overseas highway.

The Pelican is great, as it's close to everything. The parking was easy, with each room having its own designated parking slot in front. It has its own beachfront, where we sunbathed and swam. The room was basic but had everything we needed, and it was very clean. The staff changed our towels every day and ensured our needs were met. They even have a ice machine, which I found especially helpful to have in a hot and humid weather. Important: bring your mosquito repellent if you're the kind that's favored by them. We didn't always feel the weather was hot enough to turn on the air con (which was loud), especially when it rained, so when the air con was off, the mosquitos had a banquet in our room.

The cottages were perfect for what I was looking for; a local vibe with a quiet location. There are 2 lanes which lead to the bay with beach access. Both lanes are lined with varying sizes of beach themed rooms/cottages. The Pelican offers beach and dock access, free kayaks to tour the bay, hammocks, lounge chairs, bar-b-q pit, boat launch, and a quiet time, all within walking distance to many restaurants. I was assigned the "Mermaid" room which had a queen sized bed, small bathroom/shower and a small closet. It was perfect for what I needed.

The wifi connection would not connect on one device and fell off every 5 minutes on another. I also didn't like the light which crept in around the edges of the blinds on the windows, but I hung towels up and my room became perfectly dark at night.

Our room was upgraded free to a bigger size with two queen bed. A/C was perfect in hot daytime hours, and the beach was excellent. We were close to the warm sea water and the gentle waves were pleasant. Free kayak use was outstanding, I chose a single rider but a two rider was also ready. Kayaking was very enjoyable, and I spent hours going around and taking sunburn on my legs. My upper body was protected with my long sleeves, better than sunscreen. Excellent parking was in front of our unit. Washer and dryer were available. Evening was quite and the waves and breeze were soothing. Maybe I should try sleeping outside next time. The staff were outstanding and helpful. We walked at night to many restaurants and stores like Walgreen on the street. In whole I made an excellent decision to stay here and hopefully stay and visit Key Largo again.

At around 10 pm, I want to buy soda from the vending machine but it was close. Water was fine substitute.

Staff was great and it was great to have the beach and the kayaks, and having the chairs right outside our room was great.

The room we were in was very small -- we knew that, but it would be helpful to have put tables on both sides of the bed instead of on only one side of the bed (even if one had to be very narrow), and it would have been nicer to have a little better shelf space in the bathroom. Finally, the TV screens are old and of very poor resolution -- they should be upgraded. Only saying these things to help -- overall, we really liked this place a lot

Location is amazing, all the cottages have use of a private beach which was generally very quiet. The staff were very kind and generous, when they discovered it was our anniversary they upgraded our room to a larger one with a kitchen and sitting area. The apartment was spotlessly clean and had great facilities, lots of crockery and plenty of cooking utensils with a large microwave, full size fridge freezer and double hob. They gave a very useful information sheet which listed good places to eat and drink and this was really useful.

I cannot fault them at all. Everything was perfect.

It seemed like we were the only ones there, yet it was fully booked. The privacy was unexpected. Loved the excellent food within walking distance. There’s even a grocery store across the street. Coming from rural Montana this was amazing. The vibe and setting were amazing.

The bathroom in the cottage was a little small even for a couple of really small people, but it wasn’t something that would make us not come back. And maybe give the customers a few more rags and towels to start. Not that it has anything to do with you guys but the wedding venue a few doors down could turn the tunes down a bit.
