The breakfast is very good with the hosts prepared to prepare exactly what you want from their menu. Also friendly and helpful; with good Northumbrian/ Tyneside humour. Whitley Bay has been improved with the creation of the Spanish Centre, a clean-up of the sea side promenade and moving away from the image of stag and hen parties in more seedy hotels- well that is my impression having stayed previously before I discovered the excellent Cara Guesthouse. Transport links are good with frequent buses and a good Metro system- using the Tyne Tunnel makes it easy to get to the resort without having to battle the Newcastle road network. Obviously the Northumbrian Coast with all its historic castles and islands is a big attraction- but if you like a buzzing nightlife then Newcastle and Gateshead are within easy driving distance or accessible using the Metro.

I always enjoy my stay so no real negatives. As someone with arthritic problems it is better to book rooms on the ground or middle floor as there are 39 stairs (a la John Buchan!) to the top landing. Parking is reasonable as it is just outside the centre of town- though there is no parking on site there's a public car park about 200m away where you can leave your car overnight.

The B&B is in a very good positon near bustops, too and from Newcastle and quite near shops and restaurants but not too near!!The staff are very helpful and Breakfast has a good choice and delicious.This was our 3rd visit for3 days this time,and in the Winter overnight to go to the restaurant at the Spanish City (The 1910) for some special nights with really Special food. ! We went this time for Sunday Lunch lovely too --and you feel Special Eating there!

As we were staying fir 3 nights this visit We had a large holdall and There were nowhere empty it and had to scrabble about finding my and my husbands clothes Which I like to put in a chest of drawers or similar There was a few coathangers on a holder on a near wall for coats etc

Star of the breakfast was a,burrito filled with scrambled egg, bacon, cheese and tomato. Ceral choice was limited and there was no fruit, either fresh or tinned, no yogurt or Kevin, but there was orange juice. Coffee was excellent Friendly and efficient owner Sea view and opening window ( darker dormer - attic room)

Room was too small.Mostly filled with bed. Nowhere to put my medium size backpack other than on the other side of the bed ( couple couldn't have done that) or in front of door. Bedside lamp didn't work and anyway was too low for reading. No fire escape information See above section re breakfast

Location fabulous, fantastic sea views. Ideal for dog owners as amazing walks just over the road. Room clean and comfortable with hidden extras, iron, kettle, teas, coffees and biscuits. Breakfast amazing 10/10, and our dogs were spoilt with their own bowls of sausage and toast (our little dog refused his own breakfast because he wanted to go downstairs for the one they gave him). Super friendly and lovely staff, where nothing is a problem, and they give you their time for a chat.

Nothing to do with the b and b, but thought I should mention it, but query one of other guests smoking weed in the evening, which wafted quite heavily in our room. Looked out on landing but couldn't work out where it was coming from, but super strong. Not great when you have a 15 year old.

We liked the positioning of the Guesthouse on the sea front we thought the owner was very friendly and very helpful with information

I’m sorry to say this is not the cleanest of BnBs , room 2 which we were in was on the ground floor backing onto the breakfast room ,no chance of having a lie in when you can here everyone and everything going on ,in our bathroom there was mould on the ceiling and I’m sorry but when the sheet rolled back off the mattress this morning OMG 😦 scary this definitely needs to be replaced we do have pictures showing to back our comments up but at this stage we won’t be posting them ,these will be shown to booking.com directly giving the owner chance to rectify these issues

Exceptional!! The location is perfect. The sea and promenade are right in front of you, bars, cafes and restaurants are within walking distance. The staff were exceptionally friendly an even catered for our dog. The breakfast burrito is a must, I’ve been craving them since I left! The staff were so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about local walks and places that would suit us. We’ll definitely be back and I’ve recommended them to friends and family.

There’s nothing to not like

Cara’s is located in a fine Victorian terraced house right in the center of Whitley Bay. It faces a large, green strand overlooking the public beach, with a lovely view from the bay window in our room. Very easy to find. Parking is on a side street or reasonably priced pay parking lot a block from the B&B. The room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast here was exceptional – a full English breakfast cooked lovingly by our host Mareia. She gave us lots of helpful tips on what to see and where to eat. Pour stay here was better than we expected. Highly recommend!

WE WERE MADE VERY WELCOME ON ARRIVAL AND REALLY PLEASED WITH OUR 3 BEDDED ROOM WHICH WAS ON THE GROUND FLOOR. THIS WAS PERFECT AS TWO OF US FIND STAIRS DIFFICULT. VERY COMFORTABLE BEDS WITH A FRIDGE PLUS TEA, COFFEE AND BISCUITS AT OUR DISPOSAL, THE DELICIOUS BREAKFAST REALLY SET US UP FOR THE DAY. ACCESS TO THE GUESTHOUSE AND ROOM WAS AVAILABLE 24/7. AS WE WERE SPENDING THE DAY IN WHITLEY BAY AFTER WE HAD CHECKED OUT THE LANDLADY VERY KINDLY LET US LEAVE OUR BAGS IN THEIR CARE UNTIL LATER THAT AFTERNOON.

THE SHOWER WAS PHYSICALLY A TIGHT SQUEEZE FOR US AND THE SHOWERHEAD WAS DIFFICULT TO POSITION WHICH MADE SHOWERING UNCOMFORTABLE. ALSO TOILET SEAT NEEDED TIGHTENING.

We stayed overnight as my husband was going to the Bruce Springsteen concert in Sunderland. We had a sea front room overlooking the green. The facilities in the room were first class. Everything was in pristine condition and the owner Maria was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. She put the heating on so we could dry our clothes which was kind. We had plenty of tea and coffee and one double bed and one single. There was also a fridge and an iron and ironing board. The weather was atrocious so when my husband took the Metro to the concert I stayed in the room overlooking the front reading and relaxing as it was far too wet and windy to venture far sadly so I didn't see the best of the town. The breakfast was wonderful, especially if you had a long journey home as we did.

Double yellow lines on the road for parking but as it was early in the season we found a free spot in the next road but there is also a large car park where you pay £3 for a daytime stay.

We stayed for just one night to visit family. We're a family of five and often struggle to find a room to accommodate us all so this was a great find on the sea front. Communication before arrival was great, we were met by a very friendly lady (sorry we didn't ask your name!) who offered to book us a taxi that we needed for the evening. We had a good night's sleep and a gorgeous breakfast in the morning. The kid's faces when they saw the American pancakes were a picture!

The mattresses were a bit 'dippy' but comfy enough and the floors felt a bit lumpy through the carpet and lino but that's just being picky and maybe to be expected in older buildings. We would return again.
