Loved the views from the room, the hustle and bustle of the port and the ferry. Christmas menu was fabulous, lots of fresh seafood, amazingly priced. The Portuguese Seafood Guisado with gnocchi and vintage port was a Christmas Day wow for us!! After lunch we discovered a cut glass dessert tureen in our room with lovely plum Christmas cake, candied cherries and gingerbread men with a small bottle of sherry - takes complimentary to the next level really.

Everything was exceptional, staff, service, food, attention to detail, maybe some of the outdoor tables near to the pool could have had parasols - if you were not dining outside or on a pool lounger there was no shade provision for just sitting and watching the port outside of the room balconies, I’m sure the staff would have provided some if asked as nothing was too much trouble at all, we only had a short stay and had a lot of things booked so it did not impact on our stay for what little time we had. A most exceptional hotel.

The staff are lovey, and incredibly helpful. Food was delicious (specially the new seafood terrace in the restaurant) The swimming pool was clean, the water surprisingly warm, and we never had trouble getting a lounger or towels Sympathetically designed when it was converted to a hotel, you still get a sense of the building’s history. And there is quirky E. M Forester-era wooden furniture everywhere, both in the rooms and the in the with open-walled reception & lounge areas that look out into the shady hotel courtyard garden

The old diesels ferries that run from 6am to 11ish can be incredibly noisy. Try to get a room near the pool if you want some peace and quite

An incredible building of exquisite craftsmanship with gorgeous pool that looks over the water. Rooms are a good size and furnishings are well selected. All very well maintained to high standard. Staff are incredibly helpful and made our stay perfect. Great choice of food and drinks available. Lovely complimentary you he’s such as daily tea at 5pm with a great selection of cakes. Daily yoga of you want it and a sunset cruise you.

Restaurant food is expensive for the region. There is a very close regular ferry which can be noisy at times but you do get used to it!

We liked everything about this hotel. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. The location- even though there was some noise from the ferry terminal and boat traffic it was good to watch the different boats all day long. The pool area was lovely and the sun beds were comfortable. It was good to have a swim overlooking the Arabian sea and to watch the boat traffic. We enjoyed a complimentary evening harbour cruise. We opted for eating a vegetarian diet whilst in India and the choice on offer was sufficient for our requirements. The pesto pasta with garlic bread was particularly delicious. At the time of our stay there was a tourism convention event held at the hotel and so all guests were invited. The display of foods/drinks were amazing and it was good to chat with the other guests, staff, travel agents and the owner and his family We liked the hotel that much we decided to stay for another three nights at the end of our tour of Kerala.

There was nothing to dislike.about this hotel.

The location is excellent. This was a repeat visit and I was delighted to be back. The reception staff is welcoming and helpful and the housekeeping staff is excellent; and it’s lovely to be greeted by smiles everywhere. Love the new bar and tables on the waterfront. It’s an excellent idea. The young barmen were enthusiastic and efficient. Also love the sunset cruise.

The food is the only weak link. The overall experience at Brunton and Food all over Kerala is so wonderful that you feel cheated when the food here is not above average. The Breakfast portions need to be larger and served more creatively. The young staff at the counter needs better training.

A real gem in this town. Exceptionally well located near the water. Tastefully restored old building. Restaurant with good cuisine. The staff is above and beyond praise. Very nice and quite large swimming pool. Second time staying at this hotel and very happy about it.

There is a ferry running practically next to the hotel building which is noticeably noisy. There are earplugs in the rooms. In general, you get used to the noise quite quickly. Nevertheless, it is worth keeping in mind for those guests for whom silence is important.

The pool, the history, the rooms, the view. Staff were very loving towards our 3 year old, who didn't want to leave them at all. We felt like we were living like royalty in a bygone era. We stayed in the suite with the large lounge area, large private balcony overlooking the harbour, and a small kitchen and second toilet, which were all handy.

The food at breakfast was average. We travel especially for food but there was nothing of note. The dosa, idli, upma, etc could have been made just as well if not better at most restaurants, small or big.

I came here because to search about the history of relationships between India and Japan in 16th century. Staying Brunton was the best choice,I guess. The building itself skillfully reproduces the historical design, and the lobby was like a museum or gallery, full of items that let you image about old days. The lady at the reception provided me with accurate information to make my wishes come true. What we should also be grateful for was the presence of Mr. Sunny, the hotel-belonging tuk-tuk driver. He guided me in accurate English perfectly. Thanks to Sunny, I felt as if I were at home during my staying. About eating, I decided to eat all my meals at one restaurant within the hotel and went there all the time. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and all were conversational. The value of this hotel goes beyond its good facilities and rich food; to me, it was more than just a consulate.

Before the trip, I read a guest's review that the ferry terminal, next to the site ,sounded noisy while sleeping, but for me, it was no problem. It was a kind of beautiful soundscape.

Our room, a deluxe sea facing room with balcony, was so beautiful and perfect that I started to cry when I saw it! It was exactly what I hoped it would be. Celebrating our 47th anniversary, we chose this very special room. We were absolutely delighted! And the staff!!!! Everyone made us feel so welcome, and they made sure our anniversary was very special! A beautiful flower arrangement on the bed spelling out "Happy Anniversary" and a delicious cake. At dinner, another delicious cake! The hotel is perfectly situated for visiting Cochin. I had several treatments at the spa, which were excellent. All in all a most wonderful stay!

This is one of my favourite hotels in all the world. The pool is my all time favourite, there is so much to see and do in the area and while swimming. The food is fantastic tho the service at breakfast could be sharper! I know not everyone likes the noise of the little ferry but I love the vibe of being in the heart of a ‘working area’ and all the comments and goings. I love the new addition of afternoon tea and we went for a couple of spins on the bikes which was a little scary but very much fun!

You know it’s lovely but if it pricey, I think the lower sea view rooms are better than the ones right at the top. If you don’t have a sea view room there is really no view at all.
