I was pleasantly surprised by this property as I initially didn't expect all that much based on the description and location of the property. I stayed in a single room and the room was clean, well-lit and spacious with a window offering a view of the square across the street. The common areas were all tidily organised and clean, and the balcony adjoining onto the sitting room was a particularly nice touch for having breakfast on, or having a drink in the evening when I was looking for some quiet time and space. There was car parking around the back of the pub which was spacious, the wifi was fast, the showers were clean and had good water pressure, and the location of the pub in the middle of town was outstanding. Overall it was a comfortable and reasonably-priced place to stay.

The only things that I feel were a negative (and the only reasons I'm not giving it a 10) are that the furnishings in the room felt quite antiquated and could probably do with an update. They were clean and functional but were definitely a bit "rustic" and old-fashioned. Otherwise, there was a bit of noise through the floor from the pub below but this stopped at a fairly reasonable hour (about 10:30-11:00 p.m. or thereabouts) and was not serious enough to cause any issues. It might be prudent to bring ear plugs though on the off-chance you are staying at the property for a very busy night.

The place was very friendly and clean. The location was excellent, completely central to Methven.

The kitchen facilities were lacking, which means the best you can do is microwave meals or 2 min noodles. So plan accordingly if travelling on a budget.

Friendly staff. I was surprised how spacious the room was. It had a hand basin. Towel (big fluffy white towel), soap and face cloth provided free. Bed was really comfortable. Seemed safe. It has a separate shared lounge area, kitchen (fridge, toaster, jug, microwave) and an outdoor upstairs patio. Had a number of shared toilet and shower options which were clean. Methven is pretty tiny. Pub is only about 2 blocks from the Four Square and Super Value and there is a good burger/pizza place less than a block away. The pub also has a restaurant. Methven is about 13min drive from Rakaia Gorge Walkway (which has beautiful bright blue water)-it is worth making a photo stop there if you can.

You could faintly hear the pub noise (but it didn't go late into the night and it didn't disturb getting to sleep), so nothing to worry about. I'd stay again if I came back to Methven.

It is in a great location, clean and warm, comfortable and great value.

There was a DJ playing the night I stayed and it sounded like they were directly under my room and very loud. If the property had acknowledged it when I checked in I might have opted to upgrade my room to the other side of the pub or chosen to transfer to the Blue Pub across the road.

We were welcomed by friendly and helpful staff. Our room was clean and beautifully presented.

The room was cool, and the heater not turned on. We weren't able to order food as they had a backlog of orders and they had closed the kitchen. My husband is coeliac, so finding suitable food should have been easy. But it was not.

Warm comfy accommodation. single room has own sink. Accommodation and shared areas very clean.

Kitchen has air fryer, microwave and microwave onlky, no hot plate or conventional oven. Room was a bit noisy on some nights until 11pm due to pub downstairs/people coming out of pub talking.

Facilities and staff were excellent.

More soap in bathrooms would be great. Additional bedding would have been great. An oven and range in the kitchen would have been great.

We loved the quirkiness of staying in an old NZ pub hotel. The decor and decorating was exceptional and very well done. We loved sitting on the balcony and watching the people, traffic and tractors go by. A truly incredible experience.

Unfortunately one of our rooms had a very loud dripping tap, which was very disturbing through the night and unfortunately dampered our stay slightly.

This is a well organised pub with great facilities.

Next time I will take my own pillow but this is only because I’m fussy when it comes to pillows. There was nothing wrong with the ones supplied. Also, I wasn’t sure what milk in the fridge was the right one to use for our cups of tea. Perhaps an obvious ‘Pub Milk’ jug could solve this problem

What a great place in budget. Only issue is the noise from the pub but noise cancelling ear buds did the job. And the beds are too soft. Oh and while you're there their BBQ Beef burger is a must. The best I have had
