We have stayed here several times for short breaks in Calais and would have no hesitation in recommending staying here. Steeping into this hotel is like stepping into an oasis of tranquility.  It is close to the centre of town, as well as a short distance from the train and bus hub.  The Classic rooms have recently been refurbished to a high standard and the public areas are very welcoming and elegant.  This calmness is reflected by all of the staff who are very helpful, polite and speak good English.  The full breakfast is quite something and well worth having.  For a small additional cost there is the added bonus of the underground car park which also has an electric charging point available.

Nothing at all!

The staff was extremely friendly, especially the kind man at the reception last night. The rooms were super clean and had the most important amenities. The hotel has a charming bar, which offers liquor, wines and beer in a cozy atmosphere for a reasonable price. There is an underground parking garage, but you can also find free on street parking. The hotel is situated in a quiet street, but within a few minutes of walking you can find bars, restaurants, etc - so location is excellent. For breakfast there was a great selection of high quality food. The hotel and its staff is very dog friendly, which was definitely a plus for us. I would definitely recommend the hotel for a visit in Calais.

Just a tiny thing, but for the rooms that accommodate dogs, I feel that carpet is not the best flooring option :-).

This is a great hotel, classic in style, with lovely big reception and dining rooms. The bedrooms are also spacious. It has a lovely friendly yet serene ambience. The staff are always professional and yet friendly and helpful. We often arrive very late after I leave my work in London, cross the channel and arrive at 1am or later, but it is never a problem, with 24 hour reception desk. Parking is no problem, always I have found a space on nearby streets, but there is also a car park .Altogether it is the perfect place to stay in Calais. Do not underestimate Calais, it is a lovely town, and very pleasant restaurants are nearby.

This hotel is just amazing. Dating from 1771 it has history and elegance. Beautifully laid out with the ornamentation and style. Staying here you are close to the town but far enough away for it to be quiet. A stone's throw from the train station if you need the train however there is free parking on the road or in their underground garage. We would love to come back here but the dates we want are already booked up. Nevertheless we will return and stay here again in the future. I am learning French and the staff were so patient and helpful. I was a great bonus and I have learnt lots since being here.

Our room was in the newer part of the hotel and it was nice but I wished I had spent a little more and stayed in the original part of the hotel.

We had a newly renovated room and it was beautifully appointed. The front desk staff was wonderful, booking us a fabulous restaurant for dinner and providing lots of details about where to find interesting things to see in town. Our friend had an unrenovated room and she was disappointed with it. Breakfast was fabulous. The hotel common areas were beautiful. I would stay there again if I was in Calais. It was conveniently located a near several historical site, beautiful parks, and great restaurants.

My friend who was travelling with us had a non-renovated room and she found it small, cramped, and cold.

Ideally situated in Calais centre for a late arrival on the Shuttle on our way from the UK to France. Easy to find using the SatNav. They offer parking in the underground garage if you reserve (we managed to reserve a place for our two motorbikes but when we were there we heard others who wanted parking but it was full, so it’s worth reserving beforehand. The bed was enormous and the room quite tastefully decorated in an old, elegant style. The bathroom was well equipped.

The only downside was that the hotel didn’t have a restaurant for an evening meal but actually there were restaurants within a 5 minute walk and we had a wonderful meal at the Vielle Four, 5 minutes away.

We stayed at Hotel Meurice a few years back when we were not impressed with it. I am pleased to report that the hotel is now significantly improved. The room we had was nicely decorated. The shower worked well and the towels were of excellent quality [and included bath and hand towels]. The reception area is attractive, and the staircase beautiful. We arrived a little before the check-in time of 4 pm. The person on duty was welcoming and helpful. He explained that the room wasn't yet ready due to the hotel having been heavily booked the night before which meant that the staff hadn't got through preparing all the rooms. We were invited to sit in the lounge and as soon as the room was ready we were notified. At check-out in the morning the person on duty was cheerful and friendly. The staff we met are a credit to the hotel. The bed was comfortable and the linen crisp and clean. We used the hotel's secure parking as we had a fully laden care and didn't want to park in the street. The secure parking is very convenient, with a lift that takes you to the reception area. We didn't opt for breakfast as we had an early 'Le Shuttle' to get which included breakfast.

We don't drink instant coffee and it would have been great to have been able to have a decent cup of coffee. Maybe next time we visit there will be a Nespresso [or similar] device in the room. But, no complaints.

We always love to stay at Hotel Meurice, it feels like coming home. It is stylish and full of 1950's charm . It has a very relaxing and calm ambience. The staff are polite, thoughtful and friendly and very efficient at running the hotel smoothly. The breakfast is very good, in a beautiful dining room. I would thoroughly recommend staying at this hotel. This time we stayed in one of the superior rooms, which are a bit more spacious, but the standard rooms are also very good. The position in the centre of Calais is excellent, just a very short walk from the main square and many lovely restaurants. But being slightly off the main streets makes it nicely secluded and quiet, and we always have a good night's sleep at Hotel Meurice.

Nothing to dislike

Everything!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The personnel were amazing! We arrived almost two hours before check-in but were allowed to go to our room right away. I have never experienced such a luxurious room for such a good price. The bed! The breakfast! Classical music was playing softly in the background, the buffet well organized with plenty of room. I cannot rave enough over this hotel!

That our stay was so short.

The hotel is away from the main road, but close enough to be totally accessible to the good restaurants. What I loved is the decor and the way they managed to pay homage to grand old hotels but keeping a modern touch. The decorative use of antiques is charming, especially the commode on the stairwell (a touch of irony?) The deluxe room was very spacious & we will chose this for every stay in future given availability. The bed was comfortable with a perfectly firm mattress & good pillows. The bar has a lovely ambience and the team make a perfect G&T.

I didn’t like that we had only booked one night. Next time we will stay longer.
