The public areas of the hotel are a bit dated, but our large twin room was very clean, bright and comfortable. The toilet had a wonky lid, otherwise the bathroom was clean and there was plenty of hot water, with large fluffy towels. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. We were able to leave our bags there while we went round town before checking in. The location is excellent, only a few mins walk from the Cathedral and Castle. We didn't eat at the hotel, but had lunch at The Cheese Room, dinner at Oliver's Bar and Restaurant, and breakfast at the Rochester Coffee Co house - all on the High Street and all good value for money.

The staff were very friendly and thoughtful, putting us in a room at the back away from the high street and giving us a fan in the room as it was hot outside. The fan was hugely appreciated! The room was clean, and we had tea and coffee if we wanted. The TV was great, with lots of channels and streaming services to choose from. The location was perfect, right next to the train station and a short walk from the river. And right next door to a brilliant coffee shop too.
It could do with a refurb, some new furniture, etc, but it was clean and we were happy overall.

Brilliant location, just a short walk away from the cathedral and the castle. Super friendly, helpful staff. The room was clean and comfortable. It was initially quite cold in the room when we arrived, but after speaking to the lady at reception, she immediately got it sorted. We had a lovely stay and would definitely stay here again.
£10 for overnight onsite parking is a little steep, considering we had already paid for accommodation. Parking should really come as part of the stay, in my opinion. I was, however, very pleased that the hotel allowed us to park all the next day for only £6. This is much cheaper than the pay and display.

The best thing about the Gordon House Hotel is it's location. It is literally the other side of the road to Rochester Cathedral, right on the high street. The hotel itself seems rather basic, but everything was clean. We had a cheaper room hence the awful view. I understand that some rooms have a view of the Cathedral. The bed was comfy. The bathroom was clean. The extractor fan was noisy and didn't appear to extract anything but it only came on when you turned the bathroom light on. Minimum noise from outside. Didn't try breakfast so can't comment on that. The bar area looked nice. Would stay here again.
Replace the noisy and ineffective extractor fan.

Good central location, close to attractions and facilities. Private car park with plenty of space. Breakfast not included, but available nearby.
The street was noisy on some evenings, but that was expected and warnings were provided at time of booking. Breakfast facilities would have been useful for earlier starts, as most local cafes didn't open until 9am.

We were unfamiliar with Rochester, unable to find the hotel’s parking, so were parked in the narrow one way street while checking in and getting directions from the receptionist, (who was friendly and gave detailed instructions for parking). The hotel is historic so does not have a lift. We are getting older, so managing stairs was somewhat difficult but the rooms were very pleasant clean, and comfortable. The hotel is situated close to the Cathedral, restaurants, shops, and the city’s many Dickensian connections.

This is a really excellent location - our trip was with choir singing in cathedral and hotel was an easy walk from station. We liked the character of the building and the staff were very friendly and helpful eg on storing suitcase after checkout
We hadn't picked up that breakfast was not available ; there were options nearby but some were quite expensive. Also important to check reception opening times; luckily our train was reasonably on time.

Great location in the High Street of Rochester, with many small shops and cafes. No food is served on the premises, which is not a problem at all as there is a good variety of cafe's and restaurants along the High Street. Costa's do a delicious chocolate frappe and is only a 3 min walk away. Morley's Bakery make a delicious Kentish 'Gypsy Tart' which was a highlight for me as it took me back to my childhood. The Gordon House Hotel is right across the road from Rochester Cathedral which is just beautiful. Also, the bed, doona and pillows were heavenly in comfort. Room 10 is a beautiful room.
What could have been better - a larger sized shower with a smaller shower head. Room 10 is a beautiful room though.

Ideally located on the historic High Street and very near to the Cathedral and Castle. Perfectly placed for quaint shops and various places to eat, offering a variety of cuisines. The Gordon Fish & Chip Shop next door is also owned by them. From the street, the building looks unassuming until you walk through the front door into a building full of character, that comes with age. A warm welcome was given upon arrival. Check-in was straightforward and car parking was available in their private car park at the rear. The key card allowed access to both my room and the entrance doors (front and rear). My room was at the back of the property on the first floor. It was comfortable with a safe, iron, ironing board, desk top fan, TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Beside one of the twin beds was a radio alarm clock with USB charging points. The bathroom was small but practical with complimentary toiletries, shaving point, shower, hand basin and toilet.
The traffic noise seemed loud during the early hours of the morning, due to traffic revving up on the main road. There wasn't currently a restaurant on site but breakfast was available if you wanted it (I chose to eat elsewhere). There was a bar but it wasn't open whenever I walked past reception, perhaps due to it being midweek.

A very comfortable bed, good shower pressure in the bathroom, kettle and coffee maker in the room. Very good value for a 2 star hotel in a quirky historic building. Reasonably priced overnight parking. Efficient double glazing blocked out most of any noise fro the High Street outside.
No breakfast available out of high season, but several breakfast options along the High Street from Wetherspoons to bistro style Quills.
