The hotel was clean, the staff were friendly and the welcome was warm.

The clip holding the showerhead was broken and there were no curtains or blinds in the room. Other than that, very nice.

Typical France/Belgium style hotel. Relaxed, welcoming bar used by locals. Rooms spacious but not many surfaces for stuff. Modern bathroom but the building retained its original charm. Very nice typical French restaurant used by the locals again (a good sign). Food quality good and waitresses attentive. Overall I would say an 8.5. Would stay again Breakfast extra but good value. Very good selection to choose from. No gf bread even though requested. Free parking on street. Located in a very interesting town. Hotel rooms separate from reception, bar and restaurant but not a problem.

It was a saints day on the day we stayed and therefore all restaurants were closed! We asked the staff about where to eat but they couldn’t really help. I was rather disappointed that they didn’t offer us anything, especially as they are a hotel which offered a very good breakfast, and it has a restaurant, which looked good btw, I would have expected them to be able to supply us with something to eat. We ended up eating in the local “chippy style” place.

It is not so great that one has to open the front door with a PIN code when arriving after 8.30pm; We arrived about 9.40pm, and in my opinion, a hotel should have someone at reception until midnight. In any case, we were unfortunate: There was a power black-out in the whole town centre, and the electrics to open the door with the PIN did not work! So we felt trapped outside, and nobody answered the telephone, until someone answered our desperate voicemail one hour later! Thankfully, the electricity black out did not last too long, and the entry-pad for the front door of the hotel started working again after about 15 minutes of waiting around.

I have stayed regularly at Au Tonnelier over many years and have never been less than impressed with their appraoch to hotel-keeping. The buildings are carefully maintained and regularly decorated, the faclilities are up to date and the restaurant excellent and good value with an excellent breakfast. The staff have always been unfailingly polite and well trained. This is my go-to stop both coming and going from France as it's within an hour of ferry or Le Shuttle.

Bang in the middle of the charming town of Bergues is Au Tonnelier. I have stayed here off and on for some twenty years and it hardly changes. Certainly it still represents a good French standard of a serious town centre hotel, comfortable, well run, good restaurant, excellent staff. As usual, I was given a room up in the eaves; in this case in the well converted annexe adjoining the main building. Lovely shower with loads of hot water and a good nights sleep. Remember, this is the centre of town, so the local 'alarm clock' goes off at seven sharp; the church, which is opposite, is most punctual with it's bells! Fortunately they silence the pretty carrillion for the night. As a motorcyclist I was most appreciative of the offer of secure parking for my machine. Au Tonnellier serves a great breakfast, hot dishes, cold cuts, pastries and all. Well Done!

The shower is not a walk-in and the bath is dangerously slippery. As a lone traveller of some 75 years, this has to be treated with great caution.

The staff were helpful and polite on our arrival. As we were travelling by bicycle, they had no issues with secure storage and were allowed to keep them in the rooms. They were also helpful when I left something behind. There was a pleasent bar area.

It seemed like a limited restaurant menu. However, we didn't eat in, so we can't pass a comment on the food.

A really charming hotel, quirky, but with everything you need. A great location in the centre of the village, secure parking, dog welcome. Staff are fabulous. Very convenient for Calais and Dunkirk. Only came here because we needed a stopover on a long drive, but will definitely return.

Convenient location for the tunnel. Food and drink available. Situated in an interesting walled town. Rooms are fine for an overnight stop. Good breakfast too.

Minimal gluten free options in the restaurant so we ate elsewhere and no gluten free bread etc. available at breakfast which at 12€ is a bit of a rip off. My wife is coeliac

Really central to Bergues, 200 metres from the town square. The town is a gem, so close to Dunkirk and Calais, so very convenient for both ports and a lovely,quintessential French town. Mondays is market day!

On the Sunday the bar and restaurant shut by 7pm, but there were a couple of places in the square to accommodate us.
