The large rooms are great. The breakfast spread was yummy every day. The staff is exceptionally nice. The location in town was great, not in the heart of town, but close enough to everything. Ample free parking. Some hotels in this country actually charge for parking! Insane. Complimentary tea and coffee 24/7 is a great idea plus the baked treats each night were a nice touch. Complimentary drinks at the bar (1 each night per guest) is a great idea as well.
Lousy water pressure in the shower compared to other historic hotels I've stayed at over the years. Lights could be brighter in the rooms that are in the part of the building that don't have access to sunlight.

I have stayed here several times and love it. The building and rooms are wonderful -- large and provide storage so I can unpack. Staff is helpful and congenial. Breakfast and the cocktail hour are a bonus. It is walking distance to Old Salem and downtown.
On this particular stay my room was below a family with young children so I could hear talking, TV and the patter of little feet into the night. This is not a complaint -- families should travel with their kids and we older people should think back to the days when we did too -- but it was a bit noisy.

Beds were comfortable, shower was nice, wine and cheese in the evening was a nice touch. The hotel was close to Old Salem.
Could not adjust the window blinds in the room because they were too high to reach. No light near the couch in the sitting area—baffling because it would have been nice to sit on the couch and read. Breakfast was pretty basic and by the time we got to the breakfast room there were no real plates, cups, or silverware left so we had to use plastic utensils and styrofoam plates and cups. Come on folks, styrofoam? At least use paper plates and cups—even better yet, just buy additional cutlery and porcelain plates and cups to reduce the waste being created and the ongoing cost of buying disposable items.

The bed was dressed with beautiful linens and premium pillows, it was super comfortable. The room was very spacious with a 15’ ceiling, exposed brick wall, huge window (with Venetian and blackout shades) and had a great ambiance! Excellent toiletries completed the well appointed bathroom - they even had a lighted makeup mirror that should be standard equipment but is rarely found in rooms at this price point. The inviting tree-dotted courtyard directly off of the lobby is a lovely place to unwind after hours on the road and the reception area, complete with complimentary freshly baked cookies and beverages, offered a nice place to relax and meet fellow travelers. Breakfast room was exceptionally enticing with an excellent hot buffet, fresh fruit and many options for non-egg eaters - this is not your average, sterile hotel breakfast experience . Parking was convenient and the front desk staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. I would go back in a heartbeat!
It was a little bit tricky finding the hotel after dark, it is situated just past a Y-shaped intersection and the front sits perpendicular to the street. The signage is a little bit subtle so I went right past the entrance driveway as the GPS announced that I had arrived. During the day I think I would have spotted it without any trouble but at night a well lighted “enter” sign would have made it easier to find.

We appreciated the blend of history and modern convenience. A refreshing change from standard hotel establishment. Very accommodating staff. Location close to center city and entertainment venues was helpful.
It would be good to have grab bars in the bathtub/shower. The historic nature of the building makes it less accommodating for anyone with minor impairments - uneven flooring and low lighting in rooms and hallways, multilevel rooms with narrow staircases. We were aware and able to accommodate for these challenges, but it would be helpful to advise future guests.

Montgomery helped me get my luggage up to my room. The room was clean and spacious, as was the bath. The hot breakfast was tasty, and the coffee was very good. The servers were very attentive and kept the buffet well supplied. I enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese, but I was particularly thrilled to make the acquaintance of the resident kitty (Flora, I think?). The free parking was a nice perk, and the front desk was responsive and helpful when I stopped by to ask a couple of questions.
Climate control in the room was tricky, because it was warm outside when I arrived about 4, but the temp dropped after sunset. I followed the instructions about the fan, but it felt chilly in the room overnight. The noise level — both outside the hotel AND inside — was the deal breaker. I stayed on Friday and Saturday nights, and folks out on the street were ignorant or uncaring about anyone trying to sleep. Meanwhile, people inside the hotel started leaving their rooms as early as 6:30AM and were talking loudly in the halls.

The charming room was furnished appropriately for the age of the historic building. The bathroom was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Everything was fresh and clean. the hot breakfast was good, and the nightly wine and cheese in the bar was very pleasant. I enjoyed walking to the Old Salem village, which was very close.
It took a long time to bring the temperature in the room up to a comfortable level, probably due to the exposed brick wall and the very high ceiling. The microwave seemed to overheat easily. The bottom of the bathtub sloped substantially from back to front, causing slight unease while showering.

A magical stay. Wonderful historic building with lots of charm. They host 2 fun social events in the evening. The first is cheese and wine and then milk and cookies. The rooms are huge. The terrace is beautiful. I highly recommend. It's just 2 mins from historical Winston-Salem area.
We were in a beautiful room unfortunately the lights on the terrace face our room and the blinds didn't block out enough light. It was hard to sleep without an eye mask. Thankfully I always have one. I think a blackout curtain could really help the situation 90%.

We rented a suite, which accommodated the three of us very well. I loved the care and creativity put into transforming a cotton mill into a hotel. The room looked very inviting, complete with a Chrismas tree! The lighting complemented the architecture. It was pleasant to stay in a unique environment. Everything was spotless, the bathroom very well appointed. The bed was very comfortable, the sheets - silky. The complementary wine and cheese in the evening was a welcome touch, particularly, after 7+ hours on the road.
The breakfast was "middle of the road", nothing to write home about, pretty much what you would get at Homewood Suites and such (the biscuits were better than HS!). A charming place like Brookstown Inn can do better that that!

I like that it’s a historic property. The dining and common areas were very elegant and quaint. The staff was really friendly. They have cookies and tea in the evening. The brick wall and open ceilings in the room added character. The bathroom was modern and comfortable!
There are some quirks with historic properties. I think they’ve done the best they can to mediate any challenges. One example, the carpet in the hallway was pulling and there were a few bumps. I tripped on one. 😄
