What an amazing stay we had at Welgeluk Feather Palace - we just loved it. As other reviews have said, it’s a grand rural retreat built in 1910 with money from the ostrich farming that has been beautifully modernised to make it a really comfortable and elegant place to stay. A room had everything we could need, including a kettle coffee machine and fridge, it was really large and comfortable and the bed was excellent. Festival with the amazing hospitality from Stan Bernadette Beatrice and James the dog. The property is about 12 minutes drive from town where there are lots of restaurants. Breakfast was delicious. We really enjoyed our day and would highly recommend this hotel.

Nothing is too much trouble for Stan and Bernadette, who are excellent hosts sharing their lovely ‘feather palace’ that has been in the family for generations with the guests who are staying. You can be sure of a warm welcome. Located on the Safari Ostrich Farm, albeit separated by a kilometre or so, there is an abundance of bird life around the property and not just ostriches, of which there are plenty. It’s a great place to relax and re-charge one’s batteries, whether it be on the verandah or in their comfortable living room. For us, the history and the hosts made for a perfect three night stay. The Cango Caves and a drive through the Meiringspoort Pass are ‘musts’ whilst there.

Everything!! It is the most BEAUTIFUL house in superb grounds! Every room is beautifully decorated and furnished with exceptional comfort. Stan and Bernadette make you feel like a family member with advice and help whenever asked. The pool is a lovely place to relax by after a busy day sightseeing and the deep verandas a nice cool place to sit at anytime. The breakfast was excellent quality and plentiful. We stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed Oudtshoorn. There are lots of restaurants that Stan happily books for you. We would HIGHLY recommend this property to anyone.

The hosts, Stan and Bernadette, were outgoing, warm and friendly, made us feel very welcome, and are salt-of-the-earth, wonderful people - by the time we left, we felt like long lost friends. Breakfasts were excellent, and we loved James, the dog. This historical feather palace is situated on a working farm and is a magnificent gem harking back to a bygone era - for the historically-inclined, this majestic, beautiful old building is a feast for the senses, and highly recommended and highly-recommended for anyone with a penchant for old buildings.

We loved our stay. The hosts are very welcoming, it was great to talk to them and we had the very best self-made rusks in South Africa. We truly enjoyed it and highly recommend to stay there. It was the most beautiful and special place we stayed at on our trip and probably the largest bathroom I have ever seen :). Also, the dinner recommendation (at Nostalgie) was fantastic. This is a beautifully restored Edwardian villa with lovely large ensuite bedrooms and an elegant breakfast room with wonderful stain glass windows. The owners were so welcoming, charming and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. The grounds are pretty with quaint sitting areas under trees and a nice swimming pool.

There was nothing we didn’t like about this property but the location may not suit everyone as it was about a 10minute drive from Oudtshoorn.

Wegelook Featherplace in Oudtshoorn is truly one of a kind. The beautifully restored 1910 building, run by a charming couple, exudes warmth and character. We’ve never experienced such a personal and welcoming atmosphere—it felt like staying in a cozy living room. The hosts went above and beyond to make us feel at home, creating an unforgettable experience. If you’re looking for a unique and heartfelt place to stay, we can recommend this gem wholeheartedly.

This was our second visit to this magical place and it was even better than we remembered.. the atmosphere of the feather-boom from a century past is all around and unspoiled. What a enchanting beautiful place.. you also really feel nature all around when strolling among the animals in the fields. We loved everything, but most of all the welcoming and warm presence of the owners Bernadette and Stan

This was such an amazing place to stay! The building is incredible and Bernadette and Stan were fantastic hosts who really went the extra mile to make sure we had a great stay. One of us is vegan and Bernadette made sure we got a great breakfast. She also got our laundry done and booked restaurants and taxis. Absolutely loved our stay in this special building and would 100% recommend it. Bonus point for their sweet dog, James!

Absolutely beautiful accommodation. The place is just like a living museum in it's best sense. Everything is decorated so nicely, trying to keep the original spirit. Nonetheless, the bathrooms offer nowadays amenities like walk-in-shower's. The owner's are such lovely folks. With James, the dog, not to be forgotten to mention. The breakfast was simply delicious. Whished we have had the time to stay longer.

Nothing, really. The distance from the center of town may be a problem for some, especially if travelling without a car.
