The property is in an excellent location. Easy to find by Puerta de Alcala and the Park. Restaurants and shopping are right out the door ( Excellent restaurants too!) Hotel has a great breakfast buffet. The staff went above to provide excellent service. The room was spacious, the largest bath area of all the hotels we stayed in Spain, with double sinks, large soaker tub, separate shower, separate toilet/ bidet and large double doors opening to Juliet balcony. Had the city of Madrid not had so many enticing attractions, I would have stayed in the tub all day :) Also/ the hop on/hop off bus, as well as the local buses have a stop right by the hotel, so super convenient.

Great stay at Hospes Puerta de Alcalá. Location is fantastic (smack between the historical part of Madrid, and the best shopping and dinning area of the city. The hotel is in a refurbished classic building, nice touches throughout, and service is warm, prompt and attentive. Very nice breakfast, and a large comfortable room. Will be back.

Slow elevator and tiny gym.

Staff were extremely friendly and went above and beyond expected service. Our room was spacious and well appointed, clean and quiet and the bed was very comfortable. Finally, the location is superb and I would recomend anyone travelling to Madrid for a break, to stay here!

Breakfast maybe could be served outside. The current breakfast room, I found cramped and not bright and airy. Also, breakfast might include more options, the menu, I thought, was quite small, although beautifully cooked!

Great location, right next to a big park. surrounding restaurants are all very upscale. Room is spacious and very clean.

A lot of noise at night. You can hear bar music until 2 am. Then there was other kinds of noises. We had another unhappy incident. We asked for a extra bottle of water to be delivered to the room. In almost all hotels I’ve been to they would just give you one for free. In this hotel not only it’s not free (7 euros), they didn’t tell us that it will be charged. You should at least tell me it’s 7 euros before you send it to our room.

Hotel is in a beautiful old building, rooms are lovely remodeled and very comfortable. Location of the Hotel is amazing! Right across from the park, nice restaurants around and walking distance to all museums and tourist sites but far enough from the tourist areas that you mostly see locals around. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

I know it’s a design feature that lots of hotels have these days but why would you have a glass door for the toilet?

Room was quiet big but the layout is strange we didn’t like it at all. Also, our booking we for two twin bed room but it was not available for us and we spent more than 40 minutes to negotiate the issue, then they decided to add extra bed in the room and we accepted the deal since we are so tired. The hotel lobby is not welcoming and very strange. The bathroom location in the room is not comfortable.

Location, great building, food was good, staff were polite and obliging, liked the idea of the secret garden.

A beautiful building but some design features not good, the bathroom was totally open to the bedroom with no privacy at all, poorly laid out, lacking useable space. The rooms look rather dated. Public areas were fine but the bathroom in the restaurant smelt quite bad wasn’t very clean and the hand drier didn’t work at all.

Ironically one thing about location. The bar next door - nothing to do with hotel- plays ridiculously loud music. If you’re in a front bedroom (to get the view of city) it’s pretty bad. Shame as it’s not the hotels fault.

A very comprehensive breakfast. Staff were very helpful. The hotel is very central and very convenient to major facilities. Close to museums and galleries but within walking distance of all the shopping districts. Hotel is only a 30 euro taxi from the airport and a six euro taxi to atocha train station.

There are no down sides to the hotel however we always ask for a room at the rear of the hotel as all of the traffic is at the front of the hotel and the outdoor dining is at the front and this appears to annoy some people. We always eat inside the hotel to avoid the smoking on the terrace at the front. We normally dine alone as it this isn't a consideration of most guests. The service inside is usually excellent.

The hotel location was central to so many things to see, do, eat and drink. The Barrio Salamanca neighborhood is very classy with excellent restaurants, high end shopping and a wonderful market...El Mercado de la Paz. We had an interior courtyard view which meant quiet nights for sleeping. The outdoor/patio restaurant had great menu of the day meals as well as a range of food choices. Every staff member was very friendly and helpful about recommendations for dining and places to visit.

A second chair in the room would have been helpful. We are not fans of an open bathroom but it was designed perfectly for privacy.
