A hotel palacio like this is the very reason to travel in Spain. How else would you get to see such a classic, fabulous building? Magnificent. The receptionist (who was perhaps the owner?) was quick, clear, robust, witty and very efficient. We had a top floor room as requested. Not many other guests but even so, amazingly quiet by Spanish standards. Outside temp when we arrived was 34C but we needed no aircon in the room - they knew how to build in those days. Very close to the fine main square, and a few doors down the Cafeteria Churreria El Paso is open for breakfast if you have to leave early as, alas, we did.

Since there is no 24 hour reception, we were asked to complete advance check-in via quite a complicated series of WhatsApps and links. That means an awful lot of private data going to unknown private websites... I can see why this is done, but it's not comfortable, and a pain to do on a mobile phone when out in the wilds of rural Spain in a heatwave. And I'm not sure how a non Spanish-speaking guest would cope.

The charming old palace with character. Unfortunately, it was raining on the day we stayed. The room is quiet, considering it is in the center of town, with a lovely balcony with views of the town and afar. This is probably the best hotel in Olivenza.

The place has great potential to be a fabulous hotel but needs improvements since it is a bit frumpy. Furthermore, we wish we could choose the room since each is decorated differently, and we got the one that was not our preferred. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, but we decided instead to have desayuno at an excellent bakery nearby called 'Cafeteria Pastelería La Chimenea'.

An amazing hotel, classic architecture, huge bedroom, bathroom and entrance hallway more a suite than a simple room. The receptionist was so well dressed and very helpful.

Our only problem was locating the hotel, Waze was useless as was Garmin and sent us down very tiny streets that were no where near the hotel. The lovely receptionist actually came out to find us in the town square, where else would get service like this?

We loved the hotel , room and location. Best of all it is very pet friendly and our room had a fridge.

We use this hotel as a stop off from Portugal to Santander/Bilbao. The only thing that could be improved is the reception should be open and ready at our given eta, as we are always left on the street experiencing a locked hotel door , while we are tired after a long drive with bags and dogs waiting to be let in. Other than that the hotel is nice.

Location. Historic building. Staff recommended area to park on street for free 5 minutes away from hotel.

Breakfast was good but I tend to prefer buffet-style. Bathroom in our room was a bit tired, slight signs of mould on sealant around bath and on ceiling. Also fancy shower fitting was very wobbly. Nothing a little maintenance wouldn’t fix.

Beautiful place to stay. Felt like I was in another century. So in keeping with Olivenza ambience. Staff and service excellent. Great location.

I would have liked to have been able to make a cup of tea in my room when I came in from a walk. Nothing else I did not like.

It’s a true palace. The pearl in a heart of the 16th century spanish town. There are authentic, delightfully made, azulejos and molduras in all the Hotel. The classic, splendid spanish atmosphere. Very clean, spacious rooms. Helpful and nice stuff. Delicious breakfast with regional dishes: migas, jamon iberico, churros, olive oil. Effective air condition. A general feel: the touch of a luxury.

The building is a lovely old mansion complete with interesting original dark tilework around a roofed central courtyard. Our room had a balcony which gave lovely views over the town and into the countryside. Breakfast was very good. There is no parking immediately by the hotel so we parked safely in a street carpark by the bus station about 400m away.

A lovely hotel in a very pretty location, we really like Olivenza and it’s a handy stop over for us travelling from the ferry to the Algarve.

Although we have stayed here many times before and not had any problems , we couldn’t turn the bath taps on. It Maybe our misunderstanding

Bed was extremely comfortable which is the most important feature for me, the blinds blocked out all the light and there was no noise. The hotel was in a perfect location to visit the sights and enjoy a drink and tapas within walking distance. Breakfast was very good and served with a smile, all the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much.

WiFi was poor and the room could do with updating a little but it worked well for the age of the hotel. Maybe a small stock of English breakfast tea for the occasional English tourist like myself 😁
