We took all our meals at Club Villa during our 3 day stay which were delicious and beautifully served by the ever attentive staff in a peaceful and elegant dining area adjacent to the stunning garden. The immaculate pool is in the garden where towels were provided, also available if you want to go to the beach a few minutes walk beyond the garden and railway track. Our room was beautifully furnished in the Dutch colonial style, with a fabulous view of the garden. Indeed we loved being immersed in the fabulous architecture and design of the hotel by Geoffrey Bawa, really a special place to relish with delightful surprises to see around every corner.

Nothing, as Club Villa exceeded our expectations in every way - our only regret was having to leave.

It really felt like going back in time; beautifully decorated by Geoffrey Bawa giving the typical tropical movement vibe. Very tranquil place, the garden is stunning, breakfast delicious and you have the luxury of the swimming pool and just a 5 minute walk away also the quiet beach. The train running through the garden only every once in a while makes it extra special. The noise never bothered me while I am a light sleeper (as of midnight until +/- 05:00 the train doesn't pas by anymore anyway). There are many guests who have been coming back for years. That already says enough. The staff is incredibly friendly. Absolutely loved it here, thank you for this special experience and truly hope to come back in the future!

The temperature of the swimming pool is quite warm. But can imagine it is difficult to cool properly with the high temperatures during summer.

The room was a bit of a disaster, dysfunctional dimly lit & in desperate need of fundamental renovation. TV poorly located no place to watch and barely any English channels to watch ; no surface space to lay anything. Poor lighting. Mosquito net had many gaps. Not mentioned is the rail line at the bottom of the garden which is very loud - could be seen as quaint and adding to the character of the hotel but was v. Loud

This is one of my all time favourite hotels and I’ve stayed here a few times. This time I enjoyed a 5 night stay. It’s a beautiful laid back Geoffrey Bawa designed property and I love the decor and ambience. The gardens are beautiful and the immaculately cared for 25m pool is perfect for both lap swimming and lounging - kudos to the pool man who is always there and clearly loves his pool. The long beach is a short walk across the train tracks (the train never disturbed me and I barely noticed it after the first day or so). Housekeeping is excellent and I always enjoyed the delicious breakfasts. I look forward to returning!

Not much - the dinners could have been better but were reasonably priced.

We loved everything about Club Villa What a traditional Sri Lanka hotel. The staff were amazing and a special shout out for the gentleman who looked out for us at the poolside, the house keeping staff and restaurant staff were so attentive. We had an issue with payment (our issue not club villa) and it was dealt with in an amazing manner. Making the start of our holiday calm and less worrying. We were picked up at the airport my organised shuttle which went extremely smoothly. (Extra charge). The overall service was fantastic and our stay at club villa will be long in our memories. Just a short walk to the most beautiful beach. The gardens are immaculate and to be able to watch the gardener harvest the coconuts in the garden and then straight away drink the milk was great. Breakfast was amazing and not forgetting the Tea which is a must. Thanks to all for a great stay. Nothing was to much trouble.

The hotel is charming with a tropical, colonial feel. The rooms were spacious and offered a comfortable bed and an outside balcony. We enjoyed lounging around by the pool area and walked across to the beach daily. The hotel has only a small number of rooms, making it an ideal place for rest and relaxation. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the restaurant served authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. Location, price and facilities were all very good.

We had an exceptional stay at Club Villa. It is the most beautiful historical property, set in lush green gardens, with a beautiful pool to laze your day away. Our room had so much character and the terrace overlooking the garden was perfect. Both breakfast and supper were especially good. It was a couple of minute stroll down to a white, fine sand beach. All in all perfect.

this was a last minute booking, and we loved it so much !!! the place was superb, so peaceful, comfortable and loved the design aesthetic. It was a real treat to stay in a Bawa designed property. The garden and pool area was lovely and the restaurant and all the staff did a wonderful job.

We were up-graded to a very luxurious honeymoon suite for our first two nights stay and returned later for a third night when there was a wedding in process and we stayed in a more basic setting. The hotel has attractive architectural features designed by the famous Sri Lankan, Geoffrey Bawa. Manicured lawns, huge trees and palms, a lovely pool at perfect temperature, and a short walk of perhaps 100 yards crosses a single line railway track to the sandy beach. The beach stretches into the distance for walks and various water sports options; there didn't seem to be much span between high and low tide marks. A delightful feature of the hotel is the evocative sound of an occasional train rumbling past en route between Colombo and Galle. Sri Lankan curry dishes were delicious and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. The Ayurvedic massage is highly recommended. A very good taxi and Tuk-tuk driver recommended by the hotel kindly showed us round the local villages and then more widely drove us to Galle and to the Airport.

This remains one of the most loveable hotels in Sri lanka. Bentota is not quite as trendy as it was because of the motoway south - but that means boutique hotels in south Bentota such as this one are often excellent value.

The food and restaurant could be more imaginative and a less dated feel would help regain Club Villa's reputation of old.
