This is the 2nd time we've been to Villa Bentota. The hospitality and the service from the staff was excellent. The food was fantastic and tasty. The service was great too - cannot complain at all. There's someone coming to clean the room twice a day which is excellent. The garden which is directly parallel to the railway line is beautifully maintained. The pools are clean. We love the privacy afforded to us when the pool is used. The surroundings are tranquil and the building is beautiful.

I think the high chair for toddlers in the restaurant need replacing. They are a bit sticky and the straps are dirty. Our view is that the child seats should not have wheels (that don't lock). Our child constantly kicked the chair back by pushing his legs against the dining table. It is a safety hazard, Our suggestion would be for the hotel to replace these high chairs and keep them clean. My wife used the Spa but the room could be a lot better to make it feel like a spa. She found that the towels could be newer/better.

The Villa was heavenly! Wonderful architecture and our room exceeded our expectations of a standard room! The staff were brilliant and food excellent! We met some fascinating guests and felt part of a house party! The boutique was an added bonus to take back gifts!

There were two wedding photoshoots during the day in the garden, which made us and other guests feel uncomfortable and slightly intruding. In the evening there was a private party in the garden, of which the music was quite loud. Another comment, but not a niggle - the pool was very warm and not refreshing. If it’s not heated, there’s obviously nothing that can be done, but other guests did comment.

A wonderful place to stay for a relaxing few days. The staff were very attentive and the hotel provided everything we could need. A lovely pool and an unspoilt beach at the end of the garden.

It would have been nice to have sunbeds on the beach.

After checking out and waiting for transport The front staff questioned a missing face towel from our room ??? We were shocked and told then to go back and re check , they said they found it but no apology for the accusation of taking it . Pool etiquette was dismal: some travellers paid off the staff with tips at the start of their stay: to gain preferential treatment and having position A lounges all day while only using them for short intermittent periods. I did go to management and complain when our personal belongs were moved by this guest as she wanted day beds for for friends.

The hotel was total luxury from when you enter. Great welcome by the staff, beautiful grounds, beautiful pool and lovely rooms. Trains going past was a cool touch and can walk straight down to the most stunning beach. Can walk along and there are great beach bars and loads of people playing volleyball. We were at the hotel for a family wedding and it was incredible. Would find it difficult to find a hotel that comes close to it in the area.

Genuinely find it hard to criticise anything.

Beautiful, renovated colonial villa. The room was spacious and nicely furnished, and everything was extremely clean. The grounds and pool were lovely, and access to the beach was extremely easy. Staff were always very friendly and attentive.

Having the rail line at the end of the garden was actually a nice feature, although it was also quite loud when the (occasional) train came past during the night.

This was our forth or five visit to the hotel, we hadn't been in a few years and it really is just as good and well managed and kept as years gone by. The property is so well maintained, you can tell the staff are passionate about what they offer and they all pitch in to get things done. The rooms are amazing, the staff are friendly and the food was extremely good. The chef was very helpful with the dietary needs of our daughter and it was really appreciated from our side.

The wi-fi could be a little stronger in areas, but to be honest it was nice not to always be online!

Hotel with very friendly staffs. Clean room with comfortable bed, pillow & duvet cover. Nice environment. I think the swimming pool is a heated pool, nice to swim in.

Meals are charged by room. We have 4 rooms in the same booking but there was a communication breakdown when making the payment for the meals as the staff did not state clearly that there are 4 separate payment to be made. Is it a nostalgic thing to use the old key lock? It is kinda not easy to use the key to lock & unlock the door.

A truly exceptional small hotel near one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka. We stayed for two nights at first and after a few nights in Galle we returned to Villa Bentota given that the hotel was just so good. The hotel buildings and interiors are really beautiful and clean. The room is cleaned in the morning and the staff also enquires if there is a need to do a second cleaning later during the stay. The surroundings are exceptional. All of the staff at the hotel very helpful (although at least one of them was only in it for the tips) and very professional. Special thanks to Chamod and Malith. The breakfast was amazing and the best we had in the 7 hotels we stayed in Sri Lanka. Lunch and dinner were great as well, offering the option to cook essentially whatever the client likes (of course within limits).

The drinks and food are pricey (quality is still good). Those with a very light sleep might find it annoying that a few traings go by in the evening and in the morning. It did not disturb us as only very few trains pass through. This was actually a bonus as it made the place more interesting, including the very beautiful train tracks between the palm trees.

Their biggest plus is that it is a beautifully designed hotel, very unique and their staff is very good esp Mr Ruwan who was looking after F&B. You don't have much option of local food, unless you ask for it, which Mr Ruwan was very good at getting organized.

Their booking department got our room booked mixed up and they tried to pass off another one at the back of the hotel, with no view as the one we booked. It was all settled only after we showed them their confirmation on payment. That was needless. Secondly, the normal breakfast is quite sparse. Eg, you can't order fresh fruit and cereal, you have to choose one. Quantity and choice could both be better. Also, they have no other facilities besides the pool and spa. It would be a good family getaway if they could cater to the needs of this segment.
