Great service and support from reception. The property itself is unique, largely unchanged architectural and building style, full of antique furniture and interesting art work. Modern features include air conditioning, fans, bathrooms with hot water etc.

I liked everything, but I can see that remaining true to the old building presents challenges to modern tourism expectations! However, having seen how old historical buildings in stone town no are ripped apart to service the modern tourism industry, I really appreciate the effort made to retain Hilikiki House’s style. Location is on the edge of Stone Town, but where a taxi can drive to the front door. The proximity to Stone Town was great as our walking tour guide could pick us up there. The breakfast was in an airy upstairs room. They are catering for overseas tourists and there were choices for continental as well as a cooked breakfast. Our host was always on site and very helpful.

The Bathroom has been used a lot and little or no maintenance has taken place for a long time. The one wooden tow rail and the toilet roll holder were falling apart. The basin was blocking-up. The shower cubicle had cracked and pealing cement and paint. The bathroom needs a complete overhaul.

Hiliki House & Retro are our go-to-places when we have to stay in Stone Town. David and the ladies from staff are doing an amazing job and are super nice, friendly and kind. It is perfectly located to the city center and the markets. Also the rooms have an AC and it was very clean. As mentioned in other reviews here on booking, this is an older house in Zanzibari style - due to the high humidity and the ocean there might be some water stains on the walls and ceiling and also some corrosion of bathroom items. As this is a common thing, we are perfectly fine with that and for the price there is absolutely nothing to complain. Also the breakfast and the fresh juice is flawless. Thanks again to David & the team for repeatedly having us & the warm welcome!

The hotel is situated in a quiet street just opposite Victoria gardens just a few minutes walk from the heart of Zanzibar stone town. The architecture and furniture is all traditional and the breakfast room overlooking the garden is very handsome indeed, full of interesting sculptures and carpets. The rooms are adequately furnished with separate bathrooms.

The hotel does not have some of the modern conveniences of others nearby, but the cost of this hotel is very reasonable.

- the location was close to the main roads in Zanzibar but the city was just 10 min walking distance. If you needed a taxi pick up they didn’t have to drive into the city and it was not so overcrowded with tourists. - the host was incredibly kind and helpful. Gave us many Tipps and ideas of things to do in and around stone town :)! - the staff was overall very friendly - the breakfast is big and includes fruit, fresh juice, a choice of eggs, bread and coffee or tea - the rooms are equipped with AC, fan and mosquito net - the separate toilets (not a must) are clean (the water warms up very slowly but we didn’t even use warm water because of the heat) - 24/7 security in front of the doors that was also very kind - several communal rooms so you can chill places other than your room

- don’t have an Creditcard Mashine so make sure to have cash for any payments

The house and the rooms are beautiful, airy and large. The location is perfect, close to everything but in a quiet street with no through-traffic. The breakfast was very good and the owner/manager very friendly. Then again, all the people we met in Zanzibar during our two-week tour were awfully nice.

The fan in our room made too much noise to be able to keep it switched on for sleeping.

David and his team were very friendly, the location was perfect and super quiet, the furniture and art were beautiful, hot water available, and THE BREAKFAST WAS VERY TASTY.

But the purpose of a hotel is to mainly catch good sleep, and our main issue came with the mattresses/beds which were very soft and actually gave us sore backs… that is unfortunate but I hope the host considers this and gets more durable mattresses!

We loved everything about this place ! So clean and tidy, stylish colonial building, very centrally located but not a noisy street. Very comfortable mattress. Breakfast was just fantastic - 12 out of 10 if I have to rate. Very helpful and kind staff (thank you for everything!). If we are ever again in Stone Town, we will definitely stay here again.

This place looks absolutely incredible.. an old Arabic style house with all the elements and decors inside. I have tried fining it’s history online but no luck.. It’s located on the outskirts of Stonetown, nice and quiet area, breakfast is the classic eggs, bred, fruits and coffee/tea, very reasonable price for the booking. Can’t say enough about the place, I believe you should spend at least 1-2 nights here.. just to get that traditional Zanzibar stonetown feel.. I’ve literally walked around and done a photoshoot of the place :)

They have a yard/green area at the back, but it needs a bit more love, not greatly maintained.

The accomodation is very close to the centre, 10 mins by foot. David the receptionist was extremely nice and helpful during my short stay and staff as well. Breakfast was very delicious. There was hot water for showering. My room was clean and big enough and loved the style of the house. Good value for the money.

The AC didn’t work properly.
