We loved the design and location of Upendo House. They also helped us arrange for a day trip to Upendo Beach where we were treated just like we were guests there - they also helped us arrange a fishing day trip for my father, husband and son. Both Upendo House and Upendo Beach restaurants are great, albeit, slow. We loved the rooftop pool at Upendo House. I splurged on a massage at Upendo House and it was EXCELLENT! The rooms are small, but Stonetown is tight, so we expected that. Micky, Krishna, and Benjamin were so hospitable and helpful. The robust airconditioning was very welcome. The location put us close to the night food market where we enjoyed multiple nights of kebabs and chicken shawarma - YUM! The staircase (no elevator) was difficult for my 80-yr old parents, but we expected that. The staff put my parents on the 1st floor so that was very helpful for us. We are so grateful for the hospitality and consideration of the staff.

The hotel is ideally located in the heart of Stone Town. The rooms are simply designed but clean and functional. The rooftop pool and bar were relaxing and a welcome treat after a morning of exploring. The breakfast options are excellent. The staff team is the main asset of this hotel; they greet you with warmth, they have great recommendations, they are helpful and fun - wonderful ambassadors for the hotel and Zanzibar.

The bed was a little too firm for us but that’s been a recurring trend across our travels in Tanzania.

Very good location in Stone Town. We had a very nice superior room. Very clean, not very big but quite enough. Bathroom had a good shower and also a bath tub. Breakfast was good, you could choose from a several types, like english or american. We also had dinner at the restaurant. There are only 4 sunbeds but while we were there there was always space. My husband had a massage and it was good. All the staff was really good.

It would be nice to have a elevator but they helped us with the bags. We had a evening flight out of Zanzibar and my husband was feeling unwell so a aircondition would have been good in their public places. There is AC in the lobby but the lobby is small with only 2 chairs.

Beautifully designed boutique hotel - room was comfortable, stylish, with additional thoughtful amenities included. The rooftop pool and bar area is also super chic and a really cool place to watch the sun set - the cocktails are excellent. Location is perfect - walking distance from other great spots in Stone Town, with a stunning view from the roof overlooking the whole town. Breakfast menu was varied and the best we'd had on our trip. Staff are incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating - a particular shout out to Benjamin who gave us such great recommendations and was just generally so warm and went out of his way to ensure we had a great stay. Don't miss out on the spa either - our massages were some of the best we've had!

The noise from the construction nearby, while unavoidable, is quite loud and extends into the evening/dinner time which impacted our otherwise lovely meal at the hotel restaurant. Water pressure and temperature varied quite a lot throughout our stay, and the wifi was hit and miss. But overall these were small issues and did not detract from our otherwise lovely stay!

Location- central to atmosphere of Stonetown. Staff- v friendly and obliging including facilitating early check in. Rooms are nicely decorated- small but well designed with fridge and tea coffee which was high quality. Breakfast was excellent and the rooftop bar was perfect spot for sundowners.

WiFi was very patchy. There is construction next door but only during the day and Stonetown is generally a lively city so it’s never going to be a quiet location - that’s not the nature of it so it worked well for me as I valued being in the historic centre.

The staff were fabulous, genuinely happy and helpful and made you feel welcome (and helped us organise brilliant tours). The hotel is nicely decorated and clean (beds are quite hard and short but typical of Zanzibar). Rooftop with pool is perfect and never too busy. We ate dinner at the restaurant and it was one of the best in Zanzibar, highly recommend.

They didn’t have their whole drinks menu available. They were repairing neighbouring roofs, although interesting to watch!

The restaurant on the rooftop was simply amazing. Fresh food being cooked to order and the perfect portion size. The hotel is just 5 mins walk from the beach near stone town, so very easy to access (which is only by foot from the main road). Perfect hotel to stay at to complete the stone town walking tour and visit Prison Island.

I completely understand it is a boutique hotel and I absolutely love the place, but I would prefer having some sort of television in the room or better wifi connection as we were unable to even download videos.

We paid extra for a room with a balcony, but no chairs are provided. What’s the point of a balcony if it can not be used.. we had to move the suitcase stand out there with our pillows, to sit outside. I did mention this to the staff so I hope they recommend this to management.

The boutique vibe of the hotel was great, views stunning, staff super helpful, especially Benjamin who was wonderful.

I think the hotel is better suited to a younger, trendier clientele. I was unable to use the pool as when we got back in the afternoons from daily activities, they were having their sunset sessions with no one allowed in the pool, then afterwards when I tried to swim they had already put in chemicals. This however is a minor complaint.

The hotel is super central so you have stone town on your doorstep. The staff are so accommodating and friendly and also made sure I was safe as a solo female traveller. The rooms are clean, cosy and I felt very comfortable. The restaurant serves brilliant food and the rooftop bar is gorgeous too.

The soundproofing between rooms is a little less than expected but equally didn’t disturb me. It was mainly just through the door onto the corridor but there are only 4 rooms to each floor so isn’t a huge problem.
