Good location and comfortable stay, but lacking social atmosphere - 3.5/5 The comfortable beds and lovely garden area with seating spots were highlights of my stay. The simple breakfast was adequate and the location proved convenient. The exterior aesthetics with the garden create a pleasant environment.

However, the strict 10 PM quiet time policy feels a bit restrictive, especially considering many younger travelers stay here. While respecting other guests is important, the overall atmosphere wasn't as social as expected. The staff, though present, missed opportunities to engage with guests - there was minimal interaction about local activities or attractions. For instance, I only learned about the local train service at the end of my stay. More proactive communication from staff about local experiences would greatly enhance the guest experience. Best suited for those seeking a quiet, comfortable stay rather than a social atmosphere.​​​​​​​​

The grounds and landscaped garden are a peaceful oasis near a busy intersection and runway in front of the hostel. Open-air dining room and lounge are delightful in the afternoons and evenings, but cold in the mornings since they open all the windows and the transition area is open (January). Shoe policy is a nuisance with cold concrete flooring, provide sandals if you insist on maintaining a shoeless policy. Breakfast was more than generous considering it was free; coffee/tea, bread, bananas, salad and boiled eggs and sundries. The bathrooms seem inadequate for the amount of guests, but hot water for showers kept the chill out. Overall, great location, short walk to the city center, handsome hill tribe and lanna decor, space to meet &greet or quiet contemplation, love the ficus religiosa.

Beautiful oasis in the lovely town of chiang Mai. It a fine fine place. Lovely little garden, comfy beds, nice kitchen with decent free brekky . Cool little T.V room. Big wonderful tree in the garden, bring the churping birds through the day. Really nice staff, particularly the manager. All the staff made a very day for us xmass eve. It's a nice a chill space.

It's the sign of the times , when you have so many young travellers, missing out on meet ing , chatting, sharing with other travellers & staff. When all ye do is look at your phones & computers. Such a big difference than always &only a few years ago. This is not any established in Thailands fault . It's my fellow travellers that we outgoing , excited to be alive& travelling, feel sorry for.look up enjoy & say hello. Nothing to fault on this hostel. Thanks for everything 🙏

This place is a total gem! - great bed pods. Comfortable and spacious - quiet doors that don’t slam - a lot of comfortable social spaces to hangout - free water/coffee 24/7 - breakfast is simple but it’s free so no complaints here! - laundry machine on site and space to dry - super close to the Saturday night market and walking distance to the nightly bazaar

- Bed curtains are transparent - not a deal breaker for me but a darker colour could help give more privacy - Shower doors in the women’s washroom are also transparent. Thankfully blurry but you can definitely see through them regardless. - washrooms could be cleaned and restocked a little more frequently given how many are staying there

Room was nice. Breakfast was available in the morning. Lots of information provided about Chiang Rai and things to do. Nice outdoor space.

Walls and floor were very thin, so could get noisy. Bathroom design had gaps in the wall by the shower, so bugs could get in.

Baan Mai Kradan Hostel in Chiang Rai offers a truly unique and vibrant atmosphere, making the stay memorable. One of the standout elements was the interactive whiteboards filled with handwritten messages from travelers across the world, penned in various colors, adding a personal and heartwarming touch to the experience. Cleanliness was impeccable—staff maintained the property 24/7, ensuring spotless common areas and bathrooms. The beds were spacious and comfortable, providing the perfect balance of privacy and relaxation. The air conditioning worked efficiently, maintaining a quiet and comfortable temperature throughout the stay. Overall, the hostel provided a delightful and cozy environment, blending cleanliness, comfort, and a lively, artistic vibe that made the stay truly enjoyable.

While my stay at Baan Mai Kradan Hostel was truly enjoyable, there is always room for small improvements. One thing that could have been better was the availability of paper towels in the bathroom, which would have added extra convenience for guests. Additionally, having more hooks or shelves in the shower area to keep toiletries, towels, and fresh clothes separately would have been a nice touch. That being said, these were minor aspects compared to the overall wonderful experience. The hostel’s cleanliness, comfort, and vibrant atmosphere still made it a fantastic place to stay!

Loved that there were so many comfortable common areas, free breakfast, booked day tours, affordable washing and ample space to hang clothes out to dry (amazing as I hate putting my clothes in the dryer), walking distance to the night markets and bus station, super clean. The owner is so lovely, caring and helpful and has thought of everything here. The pictures of this hostel are nice, but in person it looks even better than the pictures, it feels fancy, and is extremely good value for the price.

Not a lot of restaurants close by with good vegetarian options, but this is not the hostels fault.

This hostel was SO NICE!! So many common spaces, a relaxing yard, a rooftop to hang out on. The beds had so much space on either side to set your things (a common frustration of mine in dorms is the lack of bedside space), and the lockers were big enough to fit an open suitcase which was super great.

Annoying that the biggest common room closes at 9pm, but I understand it is so it remains clean before breakfast, and there are other spaces to be in which is nice. The other travelers in my room never locked the door which I didn't like, but that is not the hostel's fault.

The hostel is perfectly situated in the heart of the city, within walking distance of all major attractions, cafes, and public transport. Despite its central location, the area is surprisingly quiet at night, ensuring a good night’s sleep. Cleanliness Spotless is an understatement. The dorms, bathrooms, and common areas are impeccably maintained. They have a clear cleaning schedule that ensures all spaces are fresh and hygienic.

The hostel is amazingly beautifull with a very peacefull environment and decoration! You will love it! Very clean and the breakfast is simple but good!

I couldn’t I didn’t like but the just one thing was not so great was that the staff is very nice and friendly but not so much helpfull as in other places: in morning I needed help To catch a Taxi To go To the airport and they didn’t help that much and the area doesn’t have mutch possibilities for that early so I recomend if you need transportation organize better before! But anyway I would choose the hostel again and I totaly recomend!
