We made a last minute booking to return to a village we hadn't been to in more than 20 years as part of our uk trip. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the room was comfortable. The bar food was excellent - Try the Sri Lankan option - and the setting convivial. Enjoyed a sound night's sleep before continuing on our adventure.

My only criticism was the water could have been warmer for my morning shower. It was tepid on full heat and with it being 5 degrees outside it was a rude awakening!

If you’re staying in the small village of Blockley this is your only hotel option. Most rooms are cabins to the side and rear of the hotel, not in the building. The cabins are definitely dated - in need of new furniture and paint, but most seriously new carpets (as this is a stop on the Cotswold way hiking trail, no surprise that the carpets see their share of muddy boots!). The bed was small, but comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water. The staff are superb, mostly Sri Lankan, and will do their best to make your stay there pleasant. The breakfast menu is limited, and the dinner menu has the usual pub fare expected in the UK - but also has a three course Sri Lankan curry menu that you really should try! For a night or two in the area, this is perfect. Bonus: you might find yourself in town when they are filming a Father Brown episode, which is what unexpectedly happened for me.

The only issues I had were the squeaky floor boards (it’s an old building) next time carpets are fitted it might be a good idea to screw the floor boards down. Tradesman trick. Parking was an issue, maybe just mention it in your advertising. At least we would know what to expect (your add says free parking) For us contracts guys breakfast start time is a little late. I paid for bed and breakfast but due to me leaving early I had no opportunity to try it. 7.00am would have helped. Other than that you have a lovely place and I would stay again, I’ll plan better so I can experience the breakfast. Thank You Gordon Hayes

Beautiful Cotswold village, traditional narrow streets makes you take your time and enjoy the surroundings. Great atmosphere, evening meal and breakfast all enjoyable and a good standard. The layout of the hotel and grounds both quaint and cosy.

The quaint and cosy can be problematic when trying to negotiate the entry and exit to the car park. Just managed to manoeuvre my Volvo XC90, so should be OK for must cars. Take your time and enjoy the experience. Is it just me but I also don't like having to rectify Booking.com spell check. I'm English reporting on an English location and want to use English not American.

All good, especially the smiling, happy, helpful staff. Had one Sri Lancan supper - good. Breakfasts all good but would have preferred to be offered poached eggs rather than only scrambled or hard fried eggs. Because we asked on arrival if the booked room had a Bath, the hotel kindly offered us a bigger (attic) room which did have a bath. It was a great room, even with the low ceiling spiral stair approach! The turn into the archway and twisty slope up to the car park we’re a little awkward but somehow added to the attraction of this delightful Cotswold village hotel.

Only the hard fried eggs for breakfast!

Lovely Cotswold village inn in a beautiful village. Fortunately it still has a local feel rather than a 'down from London' vibe with all that entails. So quite unspolit. Room (no.15 ) was very spacious and clean and came with a fan which was very welcome on the hotteset night of the year so far. The staff are really nice, very friendly and nothing seems too much trouble for them. Ample parking to the rear (once you've navigated the narrow arch!). Tasty full cooked breakfast included in the price. Would definitely stay again and next time try the Sri Lankan restaurant in the hotel.

Was a little pricey, but we did stay on a Friday night in July. Perhaps it's cheaper in winter. Pots of tea would be a nice addition for breakfast rather than hot water and tea bags - not a good brew.

Amazing staff, everyone very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They were also fun always smiling and had a lovely way about them. The team were all from Sri Lanka and their attitude towards all guests, not just us, was amazing. They really could not do anything more to make the stay more enjoyable.

I am being picky to find something to say as the hotel was excellent value and if I had wanted luxury there are many of other very expensive options in the Cotswolds to choose from. The shower cubicle could have been a bit bigger and maybe some more water pressure from the shower. But that is being picky!

The location was excellent. Dinner and breakfast were excellent.

Dated decor. Our suite was adjacent to the bar area and a pool table. The bar doesn't close until 11, so early sleepers need to be prepared to hear noise from the pool table until then. When we called the front desk to ask about the noise a person with very limited English had a difficult time understanding our problem, then told us just wait until 11pm and the noise will stop. By 11:10 we finally went out to ask the young men to stop playing and they kindly did. We were told that the laundry machine in the kitchenette was a combo washer dryer, and it definitely isn't. Thank goodness the spin cycle was good and our clothes were only still damp by morning.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in an idyllic location. We met some lovely locals in the bar. The Sri Lankan set menu in the restaurant was superb - authentic, very tasty and reasonably priced. We heard other diners compliment their choices of meal. I first stayed here about 40 years ago, then intermittently over the next 20 years. My last stay was in 2007 for a New Year's party with friends. We love the area and would recommend a stay at the Crown.

Some fixtures and fittings need replacement or a bit of TLC but this did not detract from our enjoyment, so this is meant as advice, not a criticism. We wish the new management team and owners all the best with their new venture.

The staff was extremely helpful in getting our car up the narrow and uphill driveway and down in the morning, Being from the US we weren't used to the narrowness of the local roads and our depth perception with the drivers wheel on the otherside. They were most gracious bringing our car up to their carpark and down when we would head off in the morning, Breakfast was excellent (scrambled or fried eggs, sausage, bacon, beans, as well as continental choices). Our room was across from the main building and quiet.

The bathroom was a little tight but otherwise good
