The location of this hotel is stunning - one of the nicest buildings I have ever been into, it feels so peaceful and has beautiful character. It feels like a place that is loved by its owners and staff. Food and wine both delicious and very pleasant staff too. The bathroom was all recently refitted and very nice and it was a super comfortable bed. This hotel is spotlessly clean, which given it is an older building is a great achievement. I have already booked to return!

Ultimately the room I stayed in will benefit from some updating of the fittings in time. This may have been an issue in a hotel that was less well looked after, however it faded into the background given the overall care and attention to detail.

Mabie House Hotel is charming , it’s good to know there are still hotels like this. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was lovely it was large with a very comfy bed with twin aspect windows onto the garden. The hotel is very welcoming and comfortable and the staff were excellent they couldn’t do enough for us . One of the best places I’ve stayed for service and atmosphere better than some 5 star hotels I’ve stayed in. We had our dog with us and the location was perfect for long walks in the forest. Last but by no means least was the food which was delicious we had breakfast and evening meals both days , breakfast was cooked to order and dinner was fab. The price of the food and wine was really reasonable especially for the quality. We’ll definitely return to this quaint country house hotel.

The check-in process was smooth and speedy. The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable and the shower was very warm. The breakfast was excellent.

The shower was a little fiddly to get the correct temperature. The TV might, perhaps, be a little small for the size of the room. The door to the breakfast room was opened so, when people came and went from the front door, a cold draft came through. There was a hiccup at the check-out process as the staff failed to recognise we had already paid before we arrived! These are minor gripes, they did not distract from the experience.

Beautiful accommodation in quiet, picturesque grounds, a fabulous place to stay. The staff are wonderful, so friendly, attentive and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. My bedroom (15) was excellent, a very large room, good shower and a super comfortable bed. Special mention to the restaurant, the food was superb. I had breakfast every morning and dinner on the last night, every meal there was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection. The truffle oil and parmesan fries might just be the best fries I've ever had! I will certainly be returning to the Mabie, thank you for making a week working away from home such a relaxed, comfortable, friendly experience.

Nothing! Maybe just add veggie haggis for a breakfast option, but absolutely not a deal breaker!

A lovely location and we stayed in room 15 for 2 nights, which was a lovely spacious room. The staff were all extremely helpful and welcoming and our breakfasts and evening meals were very good.

Not a dislike just a flag for others. Mindful that the property is a 17th century country house there is no lift and room 15 is on the 2nd floor up 4 flights of stairs. The shower whilst functional is a tad small and to turn on the power there is a pull cord behind the bathroom door. Additionally, the sash window in the bedroom has no catch to keep it open. The room is lovely but do not expect a view. Please don’t let this put you off as we would happily go back.

We stayed as a couple with dog on the 3rd Aug 24. The house and grounds look very well cared for. Room was clean and tidy with enough room to set up the dog crate. We booked an evening meal as their menu had a few good looking vegan options. We were told that the dog was not allowed in the restaurant area (which is understandable) but they did offer to set up a table for 2 in the lobby area if we were agreeable. That was fantastic, we were able to enjoy the great food they had on offer and with Milo laid at our feet, no need to worry about him, Perfect. The girls arranged the same set up for breakfast which was absolutely brilliant of them. Plenty of walks/rides to do straight from the door. Thank you so much.

Mabie House Hotel is in a lovely location and is very peaceful and a relaxing place to stay. Also for myself not having a car , there is a bus stop not too far away to travel into Dumfries. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Other guests seemed quite happy and it is good for some guests to be able to take their dogs to the hotel.

The view from my bedroom window at the back of the hotel was slightly obscured by a metal frame building and also with the small windows above the bedroom door the light shone in from the corridor in the night. Would have also liked steak to have been available on the menu later in the evening. These are just my observations and I would definitely stay at the hotel again if I was visiting Dumfries.

Beautiful setting, with lots of places to sit and relax outside with a drink in the beautiful garden - amazing views. A very comfortable guest lounge. A nice bar, also teas and coffees. The food was exceptional, with generous portions. The bed was very comfortable, the room and bathroom were very clean. The staff were warm, friendly and efficient. I’m definitely going to be staying there again. I was slightly concerned about it being described as a wedding venue, but it was more than that (I’m sure it’s lovely for that purpose) It was a comfortable, relaxing treat for me travelling between work commitments.

This review is for ‘room 1, bridal suite, red room’. The room is bigger then my apartment. I thought I was a lady in an episode of Brighton. The bed was huge, the must need at least 2 people to make the bed. The manor house is set in beautiful forest on top of hill with beautiful views. An golden eagle landed in front of my car while I was driving up to the house. They are definitely underselling this and the photos don’t do it justice. You enter into your own hallway, to the left is the enormous red bedroom with period features and furniture. Down the hall to the right your sitting room. In the middle right the main entrance is the bathroom. The toilet has the best view 😂. Staff is super nice and helpful. Beef stew at diner was delicious, set next to a local neighbor that eats there every Friday night. I especially loved the music the young staff had on, it felt cosy.

I liked everything. I do think it matters what room you book. If you book a more expensive suite you will have a better experience.

Great location and good view lots of walks for the dog staff very friendly but no facilities for the dog as in no offer of water bowl or place to put dog poo , small towels at reception for wet dog feet etc.

Stayed with dog. Had to eat in reception this would have been difficult if the hotel was busy can i suggest the other side of reception to the left small area before restaurant ( as you face reception ) would be more out of the way, and less distracting as the hotel was quiet
