Location superb as was our reception and the ease, sociability and service of all the staff. All meals were first rate, our room had a lovely view west over the estuary, was small, but had a good sized bathroom and all areas were beautifully clean. Many thanks to all concerned.
A minor point but could be a health and safety issue: we were on the second floor and the lighting on both sets of stairs could/ should be brighter. Both of us missed the 'extra'step' at the foot of the second tier of steps when descending and I fell on the first floor half step in the corridor which, to be fair, is edged in white. Both could cause serious injury to someone who was more frail. Seems churlish to mention following a delightful short stay, but 'Hey ho'.

Had the most wonderful stay here with our grandchildren … no it’s not 5 star and remember neither is the price and on that note I rate it exceptional… the breakfast was better than most 5 star hotels I’ve stayed in and the fact it is maybe tired added to the experience it was charming and took me back to my childhood .. exactly the experience I wanted my grandchildren to experience.. the location was beautiful. We woke to sunshine and a beautiful view across the river … we originally booked a different hotel that was double the price until my grandchildren decided they wanted to join us and I’m so glad we changed hotels and booked here …… they do a tomahawk steak for two on the night time menu ! Absolutely superb!! Definitely recommend.. the staff are wonderful my only complaint was the water ran very slowly but it’s an old hotel/pub so otherwise 10/10

The location of the hotel is lovely-right on the water front in a beautiful village. The breakfast was great both quantity and quality, and served by very friendly staff who went above and beyond to help with special likes /dislikes. Good selection of yoghurt, cereal, juices and full cooked Scottish. The bedroom was comfortable and had tea/ coffee making facilities. Lovely views over the surrounding scenery.
The stairway areas were very dark and dimly lit and the decor was a little “tired” on the landings. There was some damage to old skirting boards in the bathroom. Everything was very clean - just in need of a bit of care which was a shame as the staff were helpful and the food and restaurant areas were good. I think some redecoration was ongoing however. It would not stop us staying here again.

Been coming for a few years, beautiful part of the country! The Anchor is lovely, great food and friendly staff. Our room was very comfortable, linen clean and good quality as were the towels big and fluffy.
It is a little dated, but that does seem to add to the charm. But in saying that the bedrooms do need to be updated and better showers are needed. But it certainly wouldn’t put me off going again, and looking to stay again later in the year.

The staff were excellent and friendly. The food was delicious both at breakfast and our evening meal for both days. Lovely view from our bedroom and the bar was cosy with a nice vibe .
The bedroom and area leading to it was in need of updating. Our bed was most uncomfortable we felt we were sleeping on bare springs. Due to this being an old building the floor sloped in our bedroom hence the bed did the same thing. Please replace the bed with quality one as point knocked off for this reason.

The views and food were great. Rooms were comfortable and staff friendly.
The plumbing and bathrooms really let the hotel down. Our shower was not much more than a trickle. The family room, which our daughter and 2 young grandchildren stayed in, had no water coming out of the bath taps or shower. They had to climb a flight of stairs to use our less than adequate shower, which was very inconvenient.

Food at the anchor was superb staff couldn't do enough and so friendly had a fantastic night's sleep the mattress was so comfy and soft and lovely pillows and fluffy towels and white fresh linen and plenty of tea coffee.. very warm and comfortable lovely restaurant and bar area.
The only thing I would suggest is the shower and some of the furniture could do with an update other than that everything great.

Lovely property. As soon as we walked into the bar we felt at home. The bar is still olde worlde with loads of character whilst the dining room has been upgraded and is beautiful, welcoming and comfortable. The room was comfortable and clean. The bed was so comfy that I didn’t actually want to get out of bed this morning. We ate lunch, dinner and breakfast here and omg it was all fabulous. The staff were all brilliant and we so enjoyed chatting with them. We would definitely recommend The Anchor.
Absolutely nothing.

Friendly staff, pub meals and breakfast were excellent. Great pub overlooking the estuary. Handy for walking Dalbeattie forest. We stayed in room 2 which had excellent views.
Shower pressure was poor but understand this is an old building. Shower cubicle needs re sealing re mould and a repaint in the shower room.

Staff all very friendly and accommodating. Room was spotless and well kept and,bed was super comfy. Evening meal and breakfast was exceptional. Best cooked breakfast we've ever had. The scrambled eggs were top quality along with the rest of the cooked breakfast.
Room was spotless but needs updating. Decor didn't suit the feel of The Anchor or old building. The blind or curtain was missing from the bathroom. There was a see through curtain, with other buildings/ windows close by where you felt you could be seen while using the sink and toilet. Not enough plug sockets to charge your phone or use a hairdryer. You had to unplug the bedside lamp to do this.
