Building and location was lovely. Bedroom was spacious. Breakfast was excellent. We also enjoyed the jacuzzi and pool

I had pre-booked a table in the restaurant for 7.30 weeks earlier. When checking at reception I was told the restaurant was fully booked then, and we were offered a different time. Hotel is lovely but very jaded in places, in need of renovation. Bedroom we discovered THICK dust on the wardrobe tops (I have an allergy to dust) and also an old packet of Viagra up there too. Ensuite bathroom definitely in need of attention - bath panel coming to pieces, tile grout heavily discoloured (this is MOULD growing in the grout), cold tap barely trickled. Very old shower with small spray, and standing in bath with a shower curtain is never a pleasant experience, we did expect a MUCH better bathroom for a 4 star hotel

Food was lovely as usual ,just a shame new owners give a food allowance that doesn't cover 3 courses ,used hot tub at pool for the 1 st time

No tablet with pot of tea as before,cheap toilet paper , Afternoon Tea could be improved ,perhaps hot sausage roll or quiche to pad it out a bit ,I am a great fan of Afternoon Tea and had high expectations,and they were not fully met ,jam served in platic tub not quite what id expect from a 4 Star Hotel

This is the fifth time I have been on a weekend break and it never fails to please. Yes it’s old and palatial but it is also stunning. There is everything you need from bath robes for the swimming pool to board games to while away the evening with a choice of fabulous drinks. Whilst I am not a golfer the course looks amazing and incredibly well maintained. The staff are amazing with the exception of the foreign male receptionist who had no patience and appeared quite rude. Perhaps he was having an off day.

The shower room off the swimming pool is in need of an upgrade. It looks grubby and the shower curtains have seen better days.

We have stayed at the Cally Palace Hotel on several occasions and will continue to return. It is a lovely hotel in very beautiful surroundings. They are gradually refurbishing the rooms to a very high standard and have been fortunate to stay in one of these on a couple of occasions. Regardless of a refurbished or non refurbished room, they are always IMMACULATE!!! - with good heavy quality white sheets and towels. Their toiletries have always been by The White Company - liquid soap (not bar) etc. The staff go out of their way to welcome guests and the menu/food is now excellent. They have certainly taken on board their many comments regarding dinner and breakfast and have definitely 'upped their game' - BRILLIANT!!! I thoroughly recommend this hotel to others.

We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the hotel was. Having read some reviews we were a bit doubtful about what to expect, but we were not disappointed. Our room was exceptionally spacious with comfortable armchairs, coffee table and large comforable bed. The bedroom looked out from one window on to the back garden where there were deer and wild animals, a lovely view. The hotel had a rather grand, faded glory about it with a fabulous large lounge looking over the back garden. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and service. We had particularly great service from Lucila, she is a credit to the hotel. Exceptionally friendly and efficient with a ready smile. The swimming pool was lovely, in fact I had it all to myself for an hour, bliss! The breakfast is buffet style although you can ask for other items not on the buffet. It was perfectly acceptable with a good choice of hot and cold food. The only downside is having to queue at a slow and ponderous coffee machine for your own coffee. Suggest the hotel offers tea & coffee at the dining table as standard.

The side window in our bedroom looked out over a flat roof extension so not very nice. The sash windows need some love and care as they are old and grubby and didn't stay open, we had to wedge a bottle in the frame to keep it open. No signage to the swimming pool, do they want to keep this a secret?

Beautiful building, tastefully furnished with high quality furniture and decor located in Cally Forest. Large room with lovely view of the gardens. Comfortable beds and luxurious bathrobes and towels. Pleasant and helpful staff.

I booked a twin room and this was confirmed. However, we got what I consider to be a double room as the two single beds were side by side with no gap in between. The manager informed me that as each bed was made up separately, it was classed as a twin room even though the beds were together. He was very helpful in trying to rectify this by checking all the rooms for a twin one but confirmed they were all the same, other than a double was made up with bedding that covered both beds together. He moved the beds apart as far as possible and apologised profusely. I don't believe the hotel should be advertising twin rooms when there are no true twin rooms.

Location superb. Breakfast service was excellent, fruit and cereals great. Bar staff friendly. Public rooms are old fashioned but well cared for and immaculate. Bar well stocked and reasonably priced for a hotel. Reception staff and Managers very friendly and helpful. Cleanliness all over, including changing rooms in leisure area is impressive.

Gym in serious need of upgrade. Far too hot and out of order signs have clearly become permanent. In this day and age this isn't acceptable. Bedding not warm enough for Autumn. Sash windows really noisy in the Autumn breeze. God knows what they're like in Winter. The haggis and black pudding at breakfast like saw dust in crumbles. This wad two days in a row so a bit of a concern. Several guests made similar remarks.

We enjoyed the pool, a large bedroom with easy chairs in it, a spacious bathroom. We had an evening meal in the dining room and the meal was good. Staff helpful and friendly. The bedrooms and beds are very . The grounds are beautiful.

Dogs, but great that they are not allowed in the dining room. The ambience of the dining room is very poor. Breakfast buffet is a pet hate of ours particularly when you have to help yourself to tea and coffee as well, therefore we decided against having breakfast. The furniture in the bedrooms is very dated and the conservatory and dining room could do with a makeover to enhance the dining experience.

We returned to the Cally Palace in Gatehouse of Fleet for a well earned break. This beautiful hotel in it's stunning surroundings is the perfect get away. A lovely, non pretentious hotel where you are made to feel welcome by friendly, non intrusive staff. Set down a long drive through Cally Woods, you can spend hours walking in the immediate vicinity or drive to many local attractions. Kirkcudbright with it's arts and crafts is a must, Galloway Forest, Rockcliffe/ Kippford for walks by the sea etc. The hotel has a swimming pool and small gym which is open from early morning until 9:00pm - brilliant!!! Extremely good value and a place I will continue to return. Love every aspect!!!

There was nothing to dislike. Please note, that a number of reviews describe this hotel as 'tired' and in need of modernization etc - but this is obviously personal preference. I would describe it as traditional and in keeping with it's age. Images of the rooms can be seen on their website prior to booking, so I am at a loss to understand any criticism of style, furnishings and so forth. All images and descriptions on their website are accurate. Very large rooms, piping hot water, beautiful, good quality white bed linen, towels, robes etc. Tea / coffee / hot chocolate / biscuits / TV / hairdryer . . . . Plus magnificent views across the golf course. And all at a very reasonable price!!! NOTHING TO DISLIKE.

Most impressed. The Cally is an opulent,18th Century, category A listed, stately home with excellent views over the gardens. The room price is comparable to many budget chain hotels overlooking motorways. The architecture, setting and decor is worthy of a major detour. In spite of 250 years habitation, the Cally still manages to blend it's Regency heritage with modern convieniences such as a swimming pool and a WiFi speed more than adequate for business requirements. Best of all... the staff were attentive, courteous and well presented.

Only one thing. The breakfast coffee was from a push button machine. It may be just me but... the quality of the setting suggets at least a steamy Italian barista and freshly baked pastry. Please charge more for breakfast in return. :-)
