The Selkirk is our go to when in Scotland. Fabulous rooms, absolutely spotless, phenomenal Staff, (so warm, welcoming and absolutely nothing it too much trouble). The food is outstanding; breakfast is a glorious affair and the dining menu would not be out of place in Michelin Starred restaurant. Their fish pie is a taste sensation. The location is sublime, 3 mi utes walk takes one into picturesque Kirkcudbright itself. If you have the opportunity of being in the locale, stay at the Selkirk. Impossible to be anything but charmed!

Absolutely nothing!

Lovely spacious room, very comfortable bed. Plenty of tea & coffee, even a sachet of hot chocolate. The breakfast was very good, the black pudding was excellent. The staff were all lovely and friendly.

Only minor gripe i had personally was that someone ran a bath very early in the morning and you could hear the bath running and then the water draining away, obviously this is an old building so maybe the walls are not soundproof. I was in room 20. This would definitely not put me off staying here though.

The hotel staff were very friendly and very attentive. Great food and service in the restaurant.

Cooked breakfast is from 715 but we needed to get away very early. The staff advised us we could have continental breakfast options, however the options were very limited. We wanted porridge because we were doing a bike race so the staff kindly arranged for porridge to be prepared and ready for us. Nothing was too much trouble. I'm sorry we couldn't stay for the cooked breakfast as I'm sure it would have been excellent.

The room was lovely and quiet, which was perfect for our dog as he did not feel the need to bark at strange noises! He slept well all night and so did we. The bed was comfortable and there was a supply of tea and coffee, including decaf, which is a nice touch. Well-equipped bathroom with toiletries and plenty of towels. The breakfast was great, and my gluten-free needs were anticipated and catered for. We had dinner at the hotel one night and the food was really good, again with gluten-free options. A special mention for Fiona, who served us so attentively and happily during our evening meal.

Perhaps the room was a little small. The reading lights beside the bed did not work. A few more teabags would have been nice. The pillows were quite floppy (we prefer a firm pillow).

Lovely warm friendly hotel. It is situated in the centre of the town so easy walking.The staff were happy in their work and made us feel very welcome. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed,inclding a surprise lounge area. Breakfast had good choice and well cooked and we ate at the hotel in the evening and had some delicious meals.We would recommend and hope to return soon.

There was nothing we didn't like.

The breakfast choices were great and the food and service were excellent Everything I had from the dinner menu (over 3 nights) was delicious and the service excellent. All of the staff were welcoming, helpful, attentive and good to talk to. The room was comfortable and quiet. The town location was ideal for enjoying the best of Kirkcudbright

There wasn't anything that I didn't like. I will definitely stay there again when I'm coming to the area.

Great staff- very welcoming. It’s obvious that people care about the property- there are nice little touches about the place (fresh flowers, real dried flowers). We booked just a basic room, but it was thoughtfully arranged and had everything you could need for a short stay. Great position near the centre, but a quiet street. Good restaurant- we enjoyed a nice dinner and a very generous breakfast.

Nothing we didn’t like.

Meals were excellent. Dinner menu was extensive and my choice of venison was best I've ever tasted. Beautifully cooked and presented with a variety of vegetables, notably pureed parsnips, a confit of duchesse potatoes, a black berry jus, red cabbage - absolutely delicious. Breakfast was also exceptionally good with cereals, fresh fruit, muesli, wonderful coffee and main courses - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for me, while my wife had the full English breakfast and enjoyed every morsel. Service and chef are to be commended for first class work! Our bed was very comfortable so much so that we are actively seeking to obtain the same pillows for our own home.

An excellent stay in this clean welcoming hotel in Kirkcudbright town centre, serving delicious food in the bar and restaurant, with friendly professional local Scottish staff, in a great location. ( For film fans, the 1973 film The Wicker Man with Edward Woodward was filmed here in Kirkcudbright, with the some of film locations on the same street as the hotel) Highly recommended

I may have got the last room available. It was at the back and a little small. The lighting in the bathroom worked poorly. Swishing sounds from the plumbing as if someone was taking a bath in the wall -thankfully stopped at night. Soap only. No hair conditioner!
