The hotel was really easy to find, as it is at the entrance to the town. It is 15 mins from the Galloway forest visitor centre, which was handy. The room we chose wasn't too big but it was comfortable and warm. The bed was soft and the pillows fluffy. But the best part was probably the food, it was simply lovely! Both dinner and breakfast, and the staff were really kind and helpful. We had a late dinner and I thought I wouldn't have time to eat dessert, but they made it for me even though the kitchen had already closed (which I really appreciate, as I know that must be really annoying). Needless to say it was great.

The staff were really friendly, and apologetic when our food took a little longer to come than expected. The breakfast service was really quick and the food was lovely. The rooms were comfortable, could have just used a little updating. We had a dog with us and they were a dog friendly hotel, and were very understanding that we did not want to sit in the main restaurant and that we preferred to sit in the conservatory near a door.

The food service was slightly slow at night time, but the staff were very apologetic and we were offered a free drink. Rooms need some updating but were still clean and comfortable.

Very clean and very comfortable with free parking .Excellent choice of breakfast foods well presented and tasty served by Doreen and her lovely staff. Doreen is a star and could not do enough for you. Everyone needs a Doreen.

Electric sockets not positioned close enough to use lamp on bedside cabinet. This was in double bedroom of junior suite no 21

Very dog friendly - my puppy was allowed to go anywhere (except on the bed, which I totally agree with). The staff were all lovely and very helpful. Meals in the restaurant were delicious. Free on-site parking is very handy too. Will definitely stay here again

Sealant in the shower could do with being removed & redone due to patches of black mould. Otherwise room was very clean. The walls are a tad thin though - the American/Canadian man in the room next door made loud phone-calls late in the evening (after 11pm) that disturbed me 2 nights running. Proper cups / mugs for in-room tea & coffee would be preferable to the paper ones provided, though it was great to have facilities to make a hot drink irrespective :)

We arrived soaking wet having just been on cycle route 7 all day. Nothing was too much trouble. We even had a separate room for our bikes. Comfy warm room & a nice restaurant to go to in the evening.

The customer service by the staff was incredible, they were so friendly. The young staff in the restaurant couldn’t have been more helpful, and reception were lovely. The food was fantastic, we had dinner and breakfast here and both were great.

There were only two minor issues with the room. In the ensuite the bath was damaged and there were toothpaste marks on the taps and toothbrush holders, although everything else was perfectly clean. And it was very hot, the fan supplies was woeful and stop started. To be fair, we didn’t mention this so they didn’t have any opportunity to give us a working fan.

We are mature cyclists slowly travelling the length of the UK. This was one of five hotels visited on this chunk of the journey. We received friendly service and enjoyed our stay.

Nothing really. The hotel was well organised and met our needs without being exceptional in good or bad ways!

In answer to a previous question: I didn't have time to walk around the neighbourhood on this specific occasion, but I have done so in the past, and it is one of my favourite places to visit. This time I was visiting the Wigtown Book Festival. The Crown offered better value for money than places within Wigtown itself, and the bus from Wigtown stops practically outside the door of the of the Crown. Lovely dinning room where they served an excellent evening meal and breakfast.

Good size room. Very dog friendly, could eat evening meal and breakfast in dining room with our small dog. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Easy parking beside Hotel or on the road for free.

No real garden for our dog but turn left out of hotel, after 50 yds turn left down side road, large fenced grass area with bin for dog to run around on the right.

Room was clean - spacious - smart TV. Tea and coffees etc. Food was amazing, great value and probably the best place to eat in the town. Breakfast was great as well. Couldn't have asked for more. We came up for a bike ride in Galloway forest, a hotel was a means to an end, however this hotel massively enhanced our experience.
