The food both at breakfast and in the bar the evening before was home cooked and good. The sweet and sour chicken was more sweet than sour and would have benefited from more vegetables, but the steak and ale pie was first class. The owners are clearly trying very hard and are investing in the quality of the hotel’s interior.

The complimentary shampoo and soap was microscopic! It would also have been nice to have had a couple of bottles of water in the room after a long journey. We cut it very fine for the last meal order and the over the phone description of the menu left quite a bit to the imagination. On the whole though, these were minor niggles. We were satisfied with our stay and wish the friendly management and staff every success in the future!

Recently stayed at the market inn hotel, for two nights group of four on a golfing weekend break, the hotel is exceptionally run by the shaunheed and her husband john,the hotel is spotlessly clean and wow the food is honestly the best I've tasted in a hotel, the staff are unbelievable, kind, professional, can't do enough for you, Special ty to Lacey ,Sarah , terri,and Mo,lovely people This is a must visit if your looking a great weekend away Thanks again x

Food all round was excellent and very good value, we were told to pre book the restaurant and thank goodness we did as it filled up quickly.. Service was excellent with very friendly staff

The room was very warm on arrival unfortunately even though it was turned down straight away the room remained quite warm and stuffy, opening the window we heard a strange distant hammering noise that was very irritating so couldn't leave the window open. Unfortunately one of the beds was very soft and quite uncomfortable which was a shame for such a nice room. Lastly for some reason the television was switched off at the socket which took some time to work out.

The hotel is lovely and clean with modern decorations and is great value for money. The breakfast is very filling and we also had an evening meal with extra family members which was excellent. The staff are fantastic, lovely and friendly and nothing is too much trouble to them. Highly recommend this beautiful family hotel. This was our second stay and we will be back.

Location of venue is great, being centre of Castle Douglas. The staff were very friendly and personable from check in to departure. The room although small, it was well equipped for an overnight stay. Comfy bed and good shower. Tea/coffee in room also for morning cuppa and full breakfast was very nice and set us up for the day. The restaurant menu is varied and good value for money. I would recommend to anybody and we will definitely be back.

Location, friendliness of staff, food, dog friendly, best place to stay in Castle Douglas.

First time staying on a Saturday usually stop weekday. There was a birthday party in the function room, noise wasn’t an issue but late in the evening groups of girls outside main door blacking exit and some didn’t move when asked to allow us to take dog for a last walk before bedtime. Not the hotels fault more an issue with the visitors to the party attitude to others while having smokes or vapes outside main door. My wife who originally was born in Castle Douglas was not amused at attitude and language to us when we simply asked could they move to allow us out with the dog.

Great rooms and facilities along with super staff. Food was superb in the restaurant, and breakfast was great! Lovely bar in the hotel as well. Highly recommended as a place to stay with personal service! Will have no hesitation in coming back!

The staff in this hotel were exceptional .They could not be nicer, The evening meal was really good as was the breakfast. The rooms were spotless clean and the beds were comfortable. The prices were well below average

Bathrooms was tiny, didn’t like the shelf directly above the sink you bank your head Also don’t like glasses in bathrooms if you drop one it’s quite dangerous

Location is very handy to all amenities ,the staff were extremely pleasant and very helpful.food was excellent.would recommend anyone to experience the friendly atmosphere of the hotel.the locals were very charming as well.

The bedroom was spacious and comfortable ,new ensuite was lovely.the management team were excellent .there attention to your enjoyment was exemplary.special mention to Sarah the chef who reassured my wife’s Gluten allergens were accomodated without any issues.
