Friendly welcome and easy check-in. The room (#1) was adequate for my needs with a comfortable bed, en suite toilet and shower. Breakfast is taken in the bar adjoining the hotel and was 1st rate with cereal, fruit, yoghurt and juice before a cooked full scottish to follow.

The village of Twynholm is small and very quiet, and as a result, every little noise is heard. In addition, the bar/restaurant at the hotel only operates on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I stayed on a Thursday and so cannot comment on how good or otherwise the hospitality is at the weekend. I am, however, sure that it would be just as good a welcome as I received when I was there.

The communication was excellent. Unfortunately, my car broke down on the way there and we were later arriving than planned. The bar and everything was shut before we got there but the instructions were clear and everything was spot on with our accommodation. We were messaged about breakfast and also told that if we needed a hand with garages or whatever, they were more than happy to help. I was then given a late checkout free of charge to allow me to get my car sorted before leaving.

We booked this as a stopover on the way to the ferry to Ireland. The rooms were clean, comfortable and well equipped. A quick look in the bar turned into a brilliant evening as were were made welcome by the staff and regulars. Everyone in the group ate something different from the menu any they all commented on the quality of their meal. Breakfast was brilliant with a wide selection including vegetarian. We're hoping to stay again using the star as a centre to explore the area.

It's a convenient location, about 10 mins drive from Kirkcudbright and just off the main road en route to Stranraer. Room was comfortable and clean, the shower was hot with a good pressure. Soap is provided. There's a TV, hairdryer and kettle with tea/coffee etc and a packet of 2 biscuits. The room key is in a key lockbox outside the accommodation door, the number is sent before arrival. This is very convenient if you arrive late. Parking is nearby but you can unload/pack up just outside The bar and restaurant is in the main building. Everyone (staff and locals) was very friendly and the food was excellent. Breakfast is in a different lounge.

The rooms are a little "tired" but perfectly adequate - they do have plans to upgrade/redecorate them. There is no Wifi in the rooms, but there is in the bar/restaurant, but that's a bit inconvenient for work

We could not rate this establishment more highly, it was WONDERFUL! We felt ‘at home’ and welcomed immediately we arrived after a long and somewhat gruelling journey up from London. To be greeted at the bar by such friendly faces and some restorative drinks was just the tonic for the inevitable fatigue of ‘endurance’ travel. Kim Coon and her excellent team all deserve the highest praise; we are so enchanted with the place that we intend to go back next spring for slightly longer to properly explore the area. The event which lured us to Twynholm (a family christening in Kirkcudbright) was a wonderful and poignant celebration, but our few days at the Star Hotel provided us with exactly the relaxation and fun that we both needed, living busy professional lives as we do. Five gold stars to Kim: absolutely BRILLIANT!!!

Can’t think of a single thing to criticise. I know that Kim is in the middle of a refurbishment after having assumed ownership/day-to-day running of the property in the spring of this year, so: can’t wait to see it again (tbc spring 2024).

Twynholm is a very nice village. Small but worth exploring. Property was clean and room had everything needed. Excellent breakfast. Friendly service.

Towels were rather thin. It is pity the accommodation is in an annex rather than in the main building. Also a pity that the bar and restaurant are closed during weekdays, especially as there are no other options in Twynholm.

Could not find nay faults, only friendly people that help and offer excellent services. The Star does not look much pulling up, but is a super value hotel. Staff, superb, food excellent and locals different class. The room is basic, you would expect that, shower strong, bed comfy and facilities very good. Slept like a log, was so quiet, amazing location! WILL BE BACK!!!

WIFI didn't work, tried repeatedly.

The pub attached was so lovely, really welcoming people from the staff to the locals. Dog friendly actually meant dog friendly and not just dog tollerent like most places we find. Yes it could do with some updating to the rooms which I think is planned but for the price it had everything we needed. Food at the pub was not your typical pub food it was exceptional.

Like I said the rooms could do with updating but that was taken into consideration with the pricing so I wouldn’t say it was bad by any means.

The room in the annex was excellent - Quiet, comfortable bed, two good size wardrobes with lots of hangers, two comfortable armchairs, a large & easy to operate television & there was a small teapot; rarely find a teapot these days. I really appreciated the large bathroom with its good quality fittings - Large Mira shower cubicle, good size sink and a large wall-mounted mirror. The staff at the hotel were warm & friendly and I was able to enjoy a good pint of beer and a nice reasonably priced meal each each evening.

Great hotel. Staff friendly and helpful. The room was clean, tidy and warm, which was great this time of year. Beds comfortable. Tea, coffee, biscuits in room.. Easy to locate from road. Food amazing, good selection. Would definitely recommend and will be returning.

There is nothing to dislike.
