Hotel was easy to find with parking across the street. We were greeted warmly, offered a late checkout, and headed up to our room. There is no elevator in the hotel that we were aware of, fyi. There is a large bar, lounge area as you enter that looked like it served locals as well as guests, which was nice. Room was well appointed with a nice touch of water and small glass of port upon entering. mini bar was very thoughtfully stocked. The building is older and the floorboard creaked a bit (we were on the 2nd floor). Bathroom was well equipped and beds were comfortable. Breakfast was continental as well as order from the menu, was quick, and tasty. Staff were all very kind and warm, and checkout was super easy. Great experience overall and we would certainly stay here again.

There was only one set of towels in the bathroom, even though two of us in the room. Mattresses were softer box springs and not memory foam. Stairs could be a challenge for some less physically able guests. But these were minor things.

The team go above and beyond We booked City Gate as a last minute little getaway between Christmas and New Year (without the kids!) some much needed time for us. We were not disappointed. Located within a quick walking distance of the city centre, parking areas and train stations it’s ideal. The room - we loved our room. Had everything we needed for our stay, comfy bed, sky tv was a bonus, nice decor, area to make drinks and get ready. Our room was warm, but the air con was perfect. We made use of our mini bar but not to the extreme, mainly because we would go to the bar if we wanted a drink. Bathroom - was large and decor has been well thought off. We loved the shower. The toilet did make a loud noise when it flushed, but when you put this into consideration of cost and service you receive from the staff it’s minor and something you can live with. Food - now this, we cannot rate the food high enough, breakfast is lovely, both continental and cooked (continental, full English and eggs Benedict fans here) Coffee is a good one too. We also booked a roast on our stay - one of the best roasts I’ve had, great selection, cooked to our liking in every way. Thank you chefs! Now when we say the staff go above and beyond, we were greeted every time with a smile and friendly chat. That in my book always sets a good tone. However, on our stay unfortunately my husband started having chest pains, which resulted in him needing medical assistance and getting to hospital.

Staff so genuinely nice and helpfull! Excellent bar and really good restraunt. Very central location. Spotlessly clean. Nice pub garden with cover and heaters. Great selection of beers and wines. Had an excellent stay and will use again. Food and general service was way above expectations for the price paid.

On the first. Night we struggled with the heating controls but resolved this the following night. Nothing wrong and we didn’t ask anyone to resolve it just seemed to be a bit confusing as it’s a heating and and cooling system.

I loved the feeling of the place, the mood is absolutely perfect a relaxed elegant and a bit decadent comfort. Loved the colours and the ambience of the gastro pub at ground floor and the light in the restaurant side. Food is delicious and all supplied locally and presented beautifully. Very impressed! Room was lovely soft elegant and very welcoming. I just wanted to jump on that huge fluffy bed and do nothing. Bathroom and shower top! Small but well designed and perfectly functioning! Staff in particular Lucy and Alexa made me feel at home from the minute I walked in. Couldn't ask for more! I can't wait to go back and totally recommend it!!

Lovely friendly staff. Great customer service. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They offered to carry our cases upstairs and were proactive in making sure we were comfortable in the bar and restaurant. Food was good and reasonably priced. Room was a bit small, but perfectly adequate for one night. Lovely bathroom and large courtyard garden.

We stayed one night and used the lovely shower in the morning. Unfortunately, the water didn't drain properly. Clearly a plumbing problem, which we reported to the receptionist when we left

Comfortable, modern, clean, warm, and cosy. Funky decor in rooms. Staff were super helpful and friendly especially the young gentleman working on Sat, Sun and Mon. Callum? A credit to the company. Great mini bar, lots of extras in rooms, everything you need for a great stay! Right in city centre.

Handles missing off drawers, loose tile bathroom floor, mould in shower, lots of scuff marks on walls. Sat night loud thumping music till late, should have expected as staying at a pub, rest of stay quiet though!

The hotel/pub was lovely. Staff we're very friendly. The rooms are rustic with an extremely modern bathroom. There is an incredibly well stocked mini bar and snacks which you can access at a charge. It was also a lovely touch from the hotel to provide some free small Flapjack, water and port!! It's a very short walk up into the centre where all of the shops are. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay here again.

On the second evening, two men came back quite late and we're very loud. Obviosuly this isn't the hotel's fault but just something to be aware of.

I arrived just before end of check in at 11pm and the staff were very welcoming, allowing me a late check out. The room was very comfortable for one person, with an opening window, which is always a good thing for someone who likes fresh air and no aircon noise. The bathroom was well equipped as was the room itself.

Some of the walls in the halls and stairway were a little scuffed and could do with redecorating. This didn't give a great impression but the room itself made up for it.

Stayed before, chose a bigger room. Lovely having the pub downstairs and perfect for access to town. Really liked the bathroom.

Couldn't get the tv to work and our hairdryer had gone walkies. But quickly replaced by the reception. A few silly niggles that could (should?) have been checked/corrected in the running of the place. Fire alarm at 10am didn't help, but they kindly wavered our late night mini-bar snacking in exchange for the inconvenience.

The cleanliness and how the size of the room was organised to make it as comfortable as possible. We could not hear noise from the pub area if the property. In fact the pub itself was really comfortable. Great food, very helpful staff and a selection of around 12 draught beers, lagers and guinness.

It was much smaller than we’re used to. Now car parking facilities; however the Harlequin car park they recommend was very safe and secure. Note it’s £18 a day but that’s the maximum you’ll pay in total even if you’re leaving your car there for a week!
