We had an amazing stay at the Highland Club for NYE. Our apartment in the old abbey was so spacious and lovely with modern furniture and all amenities you could think of. We had a fully equipped kitchen, huge living room, lovely bedroom and bathroom. A welcome basket was waiting for us, filled with all sorts of lovely stuff (snacks, noodles, rice, wine, cookies, fudge etc.). Also the fridge was stocked with milk, we had all the basic cooking ingredients... simply amazing! Staff were very friendly and helped us with our luggage (there is no elevator). The common areas were amazing - if you are a Harry Potter fan, this is the place for you! It really felt like real-life Hogwarts! We loved the indoor pool and also the big "common room" with pool tables and other games. The courtyard with the big chess game was also really lovely. Location right at the shore of the Loch Ness and only a 5min walk to the centre of the town! Will definitely come back!

We loved everything!

I cannot imagine a better location. Situated directly at the southern edge of Loch Ness, a beautiful lawn rolls down to the water. We also happened to be next to the dock for our Loch Ness cruise. We simply walked through the gate on the side of the front lawn. The history of the building added to the magic.

We had no complaints whatsoever.

Wonderful!! Perfect location. Well set up (expansive welcome basket with wine, water, goodies, coffee/tea, milk, cereal, pasta, condiments available), sports equipment, maps and a full tour of the grounds when we arrived. Be sure to contact the phone number prior to arrival so they know when to expect you and help acclimate you on where to meet them. This isn’t a hotel with a front desk check-in. Walking distance to all that Fort Augustus has to offer (restaurants, stores, the canal, boat ride on the Loch).

Difficult to figure out how to contact the staff. My American phone didn’t allow me to call the number the first few times and the email bounced back.

This is the most satisfying hotel apartment I've stayed in during my entire trip to the UK. The hotel is located in a monastery in Fort Augustus in the Highlands. The rooms are spacious and clean, with a full range of household items. It's a 10-minute walk from the hotel entrance to the small town. On one side of the town's main road is the famous Loch Ness, and on the other side, there are bars, restaurants, convenience stores and gas stations, which can basically meet the material needs for short to medium-term vacations. The entire hotel is surrounded by distant mountains and lakes, quiet and warm, making it a great place to relax. However, you might feel a bit frustrated when carrying large suitcases up the stairs on foot. Yes, there is no elevator in the entire hotel, so you need to be prepared for that.

In addition, the check-out policy is 11 o'clock, but my credit card was charged 25 pounds at around 9 am on the check-out day, and I don't know the reason.

The building was historic and gorgeous. We had a one bedroom and a two bedrooms apartment for our 6 person family. The apartments were beautiful and comfortable, well furnished. Location was perfect, right on the Loch Ness. Staff was attentive.

No lifts so we had to bring luggage up and down 3 flights of stairs.

Great place great room fantastic location

The whole experience was wonderful. Great room, great views, great facilities. Everything you could want was available within the room. Staff were very helpful and the location was right at the foot of Loch Ness. We stayed in room AC21. Unfortunately we should have stayed longer…

Leaving….

It was an amazing experience. We never knew what it would be like to stay in the old Abbey but the combination of the old (history, beautiful architecture, stunning views of the lake and the surrounding landscapes) and the new (neat, modern facilities, access to the pool and sauna) was exceptional. We loved how big our apartment was. Our daughter had her own room and bathroom and we all had a separate living room with majestic high ceilings and a big kitchen. We also got a lovely hamper as a welcome gift, which was very handy when didn’t feel like braving the cold to go out to buy a snack.

The only hiccup we had was the heating. After the first day the radiators stopped working (though we still had plenty of hot water) and no matter what we pressed on the control panel, they never gave us any more heat. But it wasn’t so cold for it to become a big problem so we didn’t bother Marty about it. I’m sure he would have been able to fix it immediately.

This was more an experience than a location. The building and gardens are full of amazing history and we felt like we were living a peaceful and relaxing time as locals to Fort Augustus.

As a family we played sports and used the entire facility however the tennis court was a little dirty and very slippery so we decided this was not a safe option to use during the stay.
