The rooms are absolutely stunning, food is amazing too, cleanest is on point and staff go above and beyond for you. We booked two different room as we was staying for a wedding and both rooms was amazing and adaptable for our stay. Talking about the food again it truly was lovely we had breakfast and evening meal here and always busy with customers so that says a lot about the food. Had one problem with the shower and staff was up within seconds to sort it out for us as it was too hot. Great choices on real cask ales The only small fault is no fridge in room. Really don’t think they charge enough for the rooms as they really are beautiful, vintage and big. Thank you so much sun inn for the stay would return in a heart beat.

From the moment I arrived at The Sun Hotel and Bar, I was blown away by the outstanding service. Every member of staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and well looked after—friendly, professional, and genuinely attentive throughout my stay. Room 16 was nothing short of incredible. Beautifully presented, spacious, and full of character, it offered the perfect balance of comfort and style. It’s clear that real care and attention to detail has gone into making it a standout space. Breakfast the next morning was exceptional—easily one of the best I’ve had in a hotel. The quality of the food, presentation, and relaxed atmosphere all contributed to a fantastic start to the day. Overall, The Sun Hotel and Bar exceeded all expectations. I wouldn’t hesitate to return and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

I couldn’t stay longer

Exceptionally cheerful and welcoming staff. Room was genuinely quiet (I could only hear nextdoor when I went into the corridor) and the rooms are totally insulated from the (busy) bar. Very comfortable. Breakfast offers huge range of choice and my bacon bap was first class! The bar, incidentally, is in my opinion, following a look around the centre, maybe the best in town and has a splendid selection of real ales. Wifi excellent too. Parking is obviously difficult - I used the St Nicholas shopping centre car park which is pretty nearby if rather expensive for overnight. The bus station is round the corner and the train station isn't far. Full marks for location.

Completely gorgeous pub with rooms, feels very unique and very comfortable. Lots of character and the room felt much more cosy than I was expecting. Delighted to get a bathtub! Breakfast was good value with lots of options and the staff were all so kind and helpful. I only ended up here because the rail strikes forced me to split a journey, and I actually loved my little enforced minibreak.

This was one of the best places I've ever stayed in. Staff was friendly and kind, location was amazing. But my room was the best. Comfy and well designed. Usually in the hotels you get things like useless showers with water leaking and no place to put your stuff. Here, I found clean spacious shower with handy trays and thoughtful details everywhere. Bar was also great and their kitchen and menus looked very good. This place comes highly recommended. Thank you!

The room was beautiful and had everything you needed. Bar had a good selection and a great little beer garden. I had the Garden Breakfast, and it was outstanding, decently priced for what you got. The best thing about this place is the staff. Lewis checked me in and couldn't have been more helpful, and Jess looked after me in the bar. By far the best 2 hospitality team members I have come across in a long time. Warm, friendly and knew their stuff. Clearly happy in their work.

I loved my stay at The Sun Hotel & Bar. I was in a luxury double room, with a wonderful ensuite bathroom. The decor and lighting was beautiful, making me feel very relaxed and cosy. The amenities were perfect, including a power shower, iron and hair dryer, as well as the biscuit treats, along with the coffee and tea supplies. Great value for money too! The breakfast was of such high quality, delicious! All the staff were friendly, polite, good humour, and very professional. I will most certainly return again!

Brilliant location,couldn’t be more central, yet wonderfully quiet - even though it’s a thriving hotel and has a busy bar, there was no noise at all in the rooms-beautifully comfortable and peaceful during the night.The decor in the room was neutral and fresh and the room and bathroom was spotlessly clean.Nothing at all here not to like-great value for money.The only very small but important thing was no caffeine free drinks in the room but when this was mentioned to the staff they went over and above and provided some proper leaf herb tea to the room.All the staff we dealt with were amazing-they couldn’t do enough for us-professional,kind and a pleasure to deal with.Thoroughly recommended

Lovely property with facilities, large room with bar and dining facilities. Good location in the town.

Elements of the bedroom and bathroom were looking a bit tired, some marks on the furniture, minor damage to bathroom skirting, a loose tap. Wardrobe and table didn’t really fit with the room and the price. A good deep clean also needed.

The staff were very friendly and cheerful. The breakfast was very good and the room had all the little touches that are needed, ie hooks in the bathroom, bathroom bin, and plenty of plugs in the bedroom for recharging appliances. It was well situated to walk to the castle and other places.

We didn't eat there in the evening as it was packed and very noisy. .It was Saturday evening and the town had a pub and club culture - not for us.
