One of the most tranquil & peaceful places I've stayed. The room was huge and delightful, with a lovely lived in feel, lots of interesting books, a comfy sitting area and all the facilities needed. Lots of windows and the view over the garden was gorgeous. Wonderful extensive grounds to walk or sit in - a private nature reserve! Breakfast was excellent and served in an elegant & homely room with a view out to the garden. Rita was very welcoming and a lovely host.

Friendly owner; view of fields from window; breakfast was filling.
The property was hard to find. I entered the postcode into my Sat Nav and it gave me two sites: the first was the next village, Wray; the second was the complex two driveways down the road. The owner said it is signposted, but the sign is on the ground among grass, and when one is negotiating narrow roads and on-coming traffic it was very easy to miss, especially as my Sat Nav said it was another few miles further on. The BnB needs to give better directions, e.g. next to the complex nearby, "Lunesdale" I think. The local pub was booked out, the one in the next village, Wray, didn't served meals after 16:00, so I had to go the other way to Fenwick.

I feel really lucky to have found acomadation at Whitmore on my way up to Scotland. Indeed, I am sorry I could not stay a few days there. The village of Hornby looked lovely and my host was very welcoming, My room was clean, comfortable and warm with the helpful addition of a fridge. Enjoyed being able to walk around the lovely gardens and felt myself relaxing after a long days travel on motorways.
Nothing that I did not like

The first thing you hear is the birdsong. Whitmore is peace, an oasis of calm in nature. Welcoming, kind & interesting hosts, a beautiful property, clean & pleasant accommodation. The gardens are fabulous. Hidden walks & discoveries round every corner. Many unusual trees & plants, birdsong, wild ducks flying overhead, views...

Rita provided a superb vegitarian breakfast and her husband Keith was kind enough to lend me a tarpaulin cover for my motorcycle for my night's stay, at his suggestion! My room was large and very comfortable and the property is in an ideal location for exploring the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
Nothing!

Beautiful Location and House . The room was very nice with a twin beds and large seating area and sofa. Nicely done breakfast even for a non vegetarian, I had cereal , juice , toast , melon and grapes was a great start to the day. It seemed that nothing was too much for Rita (host). Highly recommended

The twin room was huge, with a delightful view over the back garden, and with a settee for me to relax and read. I enjoyed the artwork and creative decor.
While it was good to have access to instant coffee and milk in the room, it would have been great to have had ground coffee with breakfast to set me up for the day.

As only one set of guests are allowed at a time, a peaceful night is guaranteed. If like me you dislike noisy hotels with doors slamming and rowdy neighbours this place will suit you perfectly.
Strangely our eggs on toast were served without any butter on the toast. Perhaps this is the way things are done locally, but it seemed a bit odd.

The room was very spacious and comfortable, with a large bathroom. Breakfast was in a beautiful room with a view of the garden. Was great to be able to park down a private driveway far from the road. We would stay here again if in the area. Thanks very much, Rita!
