Lovely country inn, tucked away in the Devon countryside, backing onto moorland. Views from the room of moorland and lots of wildlife. Clean, small room but with all the facilities needed, excellent shower. Breakfast was served rather than buffet, but lots of choice included a cooked breakfast. We really enjoyed our short stay and would certainly go again.

The bar closed early the night that we were there, which was a shame as we had brought a friend back for a drink following a concert. We did manage to persuade the staff to let us have one drink before they completely closed up. Just something to be aware of in the quieter winter months perhaps.

Territory, surroundings, views, parking, decorations, shampoos/soaps and cleanliness were great except towels - some of them were not changed after the previous guests (with yellow and brown stains, and some stains with make-up leftovers, not nice smell. The food in dinner menu is salty and is not tasty. It is not fresh cooked and mainly processed food from supermarket. The gnocchi were disaster. Omelettes and coffee for breakfast were great. No fresh veggies and no simple yogurt for breakfast. Mattress was too soft and not comfy, could not sleep. The Staff is helpful and friendly. Nice place but unlikely will return.

The venue was a perfect location for us as we were visiting family in a nearby village. The rooms were wonderful, very spacious but with a lovely cosy feel to them and in keeping with the rest of the building and the grounds. The breakfast and dinner were both absolutely delicious with great service from the waiting staff. The staff were fantastic throughout our stay, my daughter ended up being quite poorly while we were staying and they did everything they could to help make the stay easy and comfortable. It was perfect.

My wife and I had a thoroughly enjoyable three nights stay. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived, late as it happened because our train had been cancelled, until we departed. We were there for a wedding , which was brilliant, and the experience of our whole stay was Five Star. Very pleasant and courteous staff who were friendly without being intrusive. Meals were excellent - I loved the Homity Pie - well presented and enjoyable. Plenty of choice for breakfast. It certainly is a quant and qwerky hotel as one would expect from its age and that's what gives it its unique charm. If you are looking for a quiet base to discover South Devon this is the place to stay. Comfortable, clean, welcoming and away from the tourist areas. We would recommend without hesitation.

Nothing to dislike

the room was a little small and when we initially arrived and the first night the whole bathroom and bedroom really smelt of sewage - so much so that i couldnt sleep initially on the first night until i had got up and sprayed some perfume around the bedroom breakfast was lovely the staff were really helpful and friendly we had dinner on the first night which again was lovely and very reasonable over all our stay was lgood just the sewage smell that was an issue on the first night

the smell of sewage on the first night the shower had very little power and i would have liked a hand shower as well as the overhead shower had little force to wash off the suds

Check in at the bar was very quick. The room was fine, but with a bath and hand shower rather than a shower which we would prefer. There were some random long black hairs in the bathtub and the slow-close toilet seat would not stay in the upright position. There was an unlocked door to an adjoining twin bed room, which happily wasn't occupied. Dinner was very good, with good service from the young staff. Breakfast runs from 7.30 - 9.00 a.m., which was too late for my wife who had to be at work in Newton Abbot by 8. She was however able to have granola and fruit so all was not lost. My cooked breakfast later was very good. Ample on site parking too.

Some confusion about getting a breakfast before 7.30, but that sorted itself out. Minor cleanliness issue with the bath but otherwise the room was spotless. The toilet seat was not functioning properly although perfectly usable. We felt the door to the adjoining room should have been lockable from our side.

Great staff welcome. Fab room with balcony. Fab food. Enjoyed having lunch in a comfy bar area.

Valentine dinner table next to kitchen area staff and guests continually walking past. Noisy family next to us kept walking around and kids running around the whole time! Throwing cuttlery cushions food on the floor! The same happened at breakfast not relaxing! Children running around even in the bar area jumping on the seats and throwing cushions on the floor.

The entire staff are amazing, so friendly and approachable, every one I conversed with was fab. The setting is lovely, so quiet and tranquil. The evening meal was very tasty and came piping hot.

I am a fussy eater, I asked for just Vegetarian sausages, hash browns and beans as I didn't like a lot of the vegetarian breakfast items (same in most hotels), I was a little disappointed to get a sausage and a couple of hash browns, I expect maybe two sausages etc. as I paid the same as a full English in principal. Its a minor niggle and will not stop me returning.

Staff were all very friendly and helpful.facilities were good, and it did the job, breakfast was good

We had a room, which was near the extractor from the kitchen so was very irritating trying to sleep, and the smell took ages to go. Also whej someone either flushed toilet or turned water on the pumps kicked in,which were noisy especially when people are up during the night.

Everything was great - nice breakfast and location staff very friendly

The price of drinks - had to go out somewhere else for drinks (Guinness £7) so ended up having dinner somewhere else... If the drinks had been cheaper I would have stayed a lot longer and had dinner there.
