The towel changes, bed linen changes, etc. were left up to us. If we needed any of these services, we just needed to ask, and it was attended to. The relaxed atmosphere and the perfect location of the place. Fabulous. Oh, and I must mention the entertainment, Mike MacKenna, who was great, although he needs some better jokes. He wasn't too loud, and everyone was singing along. Great night. Oh, and the staff were really, really helpful. Nearly forgot that bit.

If there was something I didn't like about this place, then it must be really trivial because I can't remember any of it. Thanks for a great break, Patterdale Hotel.

Definitely, Sophie and Monica were the true stars of our rather troubled stay in the region for the Helvellyn Triathlon. Despite our delays and endless requests, they helped us as much as they could — always with a genuine smile we probably didn’t deserve. The building, though over a century old, has been tastefully revamped, and cleanliness was impeccable. Our room and bed were on the small side, even though together we hardly weigh as much as many solo guests. On the mattress comfort we disagreed: I found it acceptable, my partner found it terribly soft. Dinners, vegan, of course, and we really appreciated having three options each night for a full three-course meal. Still, the dishes felt more like box-ticking “vegan” than any real effort to delight those “annoying” diners. Special mention to our young blonde waitress (sorry, never caught your name!) , diligent, smiling, definitely the star of the dining room. In contrast, the grumpy waiter who wiped sweat from his bald head with the same cloth he used on our cutlery… less said, the better. We’ll very likely return to the hotel , but will look for alternatives for dining

Lovely food. Had evening meal the first night, 30.00 for 3 courses, which was good value. Breakfast was plentiful and good quality. Bar area was good, had a singer on which was a bonus, bar prices very reasonable. Room was comfortable, a little tired but clean. Local pub a few minutes walk away, 20/30 minute walk to Glenridding (torch needed if walking back in the dark). Bus stop outside of the hotel. Overall for the price we paid it was good value and parking a bonus.

Check-in was easy and we found our room on the second floor. We were concerned the mattress was too soft, but we had a good night's sleep. They had entertainment on in tbe main bar area in the form of a singer,which we weren't expecting. They had a good selection of drinks in the bar. The breakfast, served 8am-10am, was good with the usual selection of hot & cold breakfast items served buffet style, with refillable tea & coffee to drink along with fruit juice. An enjoyable and peaceful overnight stay.

We wanted a comfortable base for hiking in the Lakes and this charming hotel is ideally located, close to plenty of good walks of varying difficulty, including Helvellyn. It was clean and the food is wholesome and tasty. All the staff were very efficient, friendly and helpful, especially Sophie on Reception who was extremely attentive and made our stay special.

Nothing, everything was great.

The rooms were very comfortable and there was a great view. Everything we needed was available. Staff were very helpful and efficient. Good location for public transport and walking to Patterdale and Glenridding.

Only food available in the evening was £30 three course dinner. Bar snacks only available to 5 pm. Don't always want a big meal so had to go elsewhere for smaller. Staff were sometimes too efficient in taking plates away! Felt a little old-fashioned at times, which has both pros and cons.

The location is next level if you enjoy walking/running/cycling/photography. I don't think anybody could be disappointed with the dramatic surroundings. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Honestly, the nicest I've come across in a long time. Check-in was chatty and accommodating. They even surrendered their personal fan for my pregnant partner. Another member of staff took 10 mins to show me where I might see deer in the morning. Everything was clean and in good order. This is a popular spot, so parking was almost a struggle but the hotel said we could use a spare space at the back. The breakfast was on the basic side but perfectly ample. It was run efficiently by keen staff who made sure we had everything we needed. We would stay here again for sure.

We only had one key, which led to a bit of fuss leaving it at reception when we went out separately but easy to work around. The shower was hot and powerful until it had to compete with the neighbours at rush hour. The hotel is a series of old individual buildings brought together. It has character but does result in doors and steps in the corridor (top floor at least), which was a bit of a test for a person carrying two people's luggage and accessories. That said there is a lift and we don't pack light :)

Location and facilities

Some of the staff were rather brusque and not exactly customer service orientated. Eg at the bar kind of telling us off for not having a piece of paper with us to add drinks to a tab, and at breakfast beginning to clear up the buffet before we’d sat down to eat. We felt in the way!

Great location. Perfectly functional for our needs. Warm rooms. Good parking.

Bar and lounges functional but a little clinical and tired. Need a little atmosphere, evident by the number of residents seen in the pub over the road. A walking/climbing theme, reflecting the area and client demographic would be an improvement and attract more non-residents who use your car parks at the end of their day. Perhaps evening meal options in the bar.

The location was ideal with walking routes all around. The hotel has a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. The outdoor area was just perfect to sit in and enjoy the views after a day of walking. The breakfast was great with a good choice. We enjoyed a fantastic evening meal on one of our night’s there. The bed was very comfortable. I would have no hesitation in making a return stay here. The staff were all lovely.

The shower pressure wasn’t the best, a small bearable negative amongst many positives.
